  • Patent number: 9976786
Abstract: A stand alone ice making appliance or an ice maker within an appliance is provided including a water inlet, a water inlet valve disposed within the water inlet configured to allow water passage when in an open position and configured to prevent water passage when in a closed position, a reservoir in fluid communication with the water inlet, a water level sensor disposed in the reservoir, and a control unit in electrical communication with the water level sensor and the water inlet valve. The control unit is configured to calculate a fluid flow rate using the time between the water inlet valve opening and the water level sensor communicating when a first predetermined water level has been reached within the reservoir, and use the calculated flow rate to calculate a total water inlet valve open time to fill the reservoir to a second predetermined water level.

  • Patent number: 9928108
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for generating and executing metaevents within an on-demand code execution environment. The code execution environment can include virtual machine instances that are pre-initialized to enable low latency execution of arbitrary user-defined code. Code execution can typically occur in response to a defined event trigger, such as a call to an application programming interface (API) from an external source. Code execution may also occur in response to metadata regarding the operation of the code execution environment. A user may specify criteria for “metaevents” based on the metadata, and also specify code to be executed in response to satisfaction of the criteria. When the code execution environment determines that the user's criteria is satisfied, a metaevent may be generated that causes execution of the set of code. This execution may, in turn, generate metadata that triggers one or more metaevents.

  • Patent number: 9919723
Abstract: An aerial system and method use a distance sensor to measure spatial distances between the distance sensor and plural vehicles in a vehicle system formed from the vehicles operably coupled with each other during relative movement between the distance sensor and the vehicle system. The spatial distances measured by the distance sensor are used to determine a size parameter of the vehicle system based on the spatial distances that are measured.

  • Patent number: 9914025
Abstract: A ball striking device, such as a golf club head, includes a face having a ball striking surface configured for striking a ball and a body connected to the face and extending rearwardly from the face. The body has an impact-influencing structure in the form of a channel positioned on at least one surface of the body. A majority of a force generated by impact with a ball is absorbed by the impact-influencing structure, and a majority of a response force generated by the head upon impact with the ball is generated by the impact-influencing structure. The face may have increased stiffness as compared to existing faces, and may include a stiffening structure to create the increased stiffness, such as a porous or cellular stiffening structure.

  • Publication number: 20180046255
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for providing a gestural interface in vehicle. In one aspect, movement data corresponding to a gesture of a driver of a vehicle is received from a radar receiver arranged to detect movement at the interior of the vehicle. The gesture is determined to be a particular gesture from among a first predetermined set of gestures for selecting an operating mode of a computing device. In response, a computing device is caused to enter an operating mode corresponding to the particular mode selection gesture, and a determination is made whether a subsequent movement of the driver represents a gesture from a second predetermined set of gestures that is different from the first predetermined set of gestures.

  • Publication number: 20170371724
Abstract: A service manages a plurality of virtual machine instances for low latency execution of user codes. The service can provide the capability to execute user code in response to events triggered on various event sources and initiate execution of other control functions to improve the code execution environment in response to detecting errors or unexpected execution results. The service may maintain or communicate with a separate storage area for storing code execution requests that were not successfully processed by the service. Requests stored in such a storage area may subsequently be re-processed by the service.

  • Patent number: 9830534
Abstract: Approaches introduce a pre-processing and post-processing framework to a neural network-based approach to identify items represented in an image. For example, a classifier that is trained on several categories can be provided. An image that includes a representation of an item of interest is obtained. Rotated versions of the image are generated and each of a subset of the rotated images is analyzed to determine a probability that a respective image includes an instance of a particular category. The probabilities can be used to determine a probability distribution of output category data, and the data can be analyzed to select an image of the rotated versions of the image. Thereafter, a categorization tree can then be utilized, whereby for the item of interest represented the image, the category of the item can be determined. The determined category can be provided to an item retrieval algorithm to determine primary content for the item of interest.
