  • Publication number: 20090299673
Abstract: A method for calibrating an actuator system for a turbocharger variable nozzle, the actuator system comprising an electronically controllable actuator coupled with a variable-geometry member of the nozzle and operable for causing movement thereof, and an electronic controller operable for controlling the actuator, the electronic controller having a memory for storing data. The method comprises (a) supplying a flow of fluid through the nozzle, (b) causing a continuous or stepwise movement of the actuator so as to move the variable-geometry member to cause a continuous or stepwise change in flow rate of the fluid through the nozzle, monitoring the changing flow rate, and recording at least two different points representing two different actuator positions and corresponding flow rates, and (c) storing in the memory of the electronic controller a multi-point calibration representing actuator position as a function of an input parameter designed to achieve a desired flow rate.

  • Publication number: 20080040273
Abstract: A self-service terminal (12) forming part of a SST network is provided with an infra-red port (30) enabling digital data interchange to take place between the SST (12) and a portable electronic digital device (20 or 90) having a corresponding matching port (82 or 92) which is presented to the SST (12). The portable device (20 or 90) may be any device having an electronic digital data memory. Examples include PDAs (20), digital cameras (90) and cellular mobile phones. The SST network is connected to the Internet thus enabling data interchange to take place between the portable device (20 or 90) and any Internet address. Thus the SST (12) can be used to interchange data between a customer's PDA (20) and his home computer (16).

  • Publication number: 20070182810
Abstract: A method for forming a pixel (20) having a predetermined density onto a sensitized recording medium moving in a length direction energizes a pixel exposure source (14) to begin exposure at the leading edge (34) of a pixel (20) and for a first predetermined time interval. The pixel exposure source (14) is de-energized for a period depending on the predetermined density and on media transport speed, then re-energized at the termination of the period. The pixel exposure source (14) is then de-energized at the end of a second predetermined time interval to terminate exposure at the trailing edge (36) of the pixel (20), whereby spatial dimensions of each pixel (20) are maintained at variable transport speed or density of pixel (20).

  • Patent number: 7075513
Abstract: A method and system for manipulating content displayed on a display screen is disclosed. A data processing device has two attached user input controls, such as touch pads, joysticks, and the like. One of the controls may be used for panning (i.e. scrolling up and down and/or left and right) content on the display screen, while the other control may simultaneously be used for zooming in and zooming out of content as it is displayed on the display screen. The zoom and pan increment levels may be smooth or stepped, depending on a user preference, to aid in navigation of the content displayed on the display screen.

  • Patent number: 6802454
Abstract: A component has three, two-dimensional arrays that each contain three characters of its nine character, alphanumeric serial number. The first three characters of the serial number must be constant for all parts of this type. As a result, the serial number can be divided among the arrays by using the first character as the first digit in the first array, the second character as the first digit in the second array, and the third character as the first digit in the third array. The remaining characters of the serial number are interleaved in the arrays in the following pattern: the fourth and fifth characters are the second and third digits in the first array, the sixth and seventh characters are the second and third digits in the second array, and the eighth and ninth characters are the second and third digits in the third array.

  • Patent number: 6080930
Abstract: A gasket for ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection and EMC (electromagnetic containment) for use in a card cage used to house slidable circuit modules. The gasket is engaged with a rear cross member of a shelf of the card cage, adjacent a backplane. The gasket has two ridges, namely an ESD ridge to provide ESD protection and an EMC ridge to contain electromagnetic wave energy emitted from a module. As a module is slid into the card cage towards the backplane, a surface of the module contacts the ESD ridge of the gasket, thereby discharging any static electricity on the module (because the gasket is grounded through connection to the shelf which is grounded to a frame). Contact of the module with the ESD ridge occurs before engagement of pins from the backplane with connectors on a surface of the module.

  • Patent number: 5721670
Abstract: Electronic equipment having a fan cooling arrangement with a fan structure mounted at the rear of the housing. The fan structure is mounted vertically in operational position. An access opening at the front of the housing is of lesser height than the fan structure. It is desired to withdraw the fan structure from the housing through the restricted access opening. For this purpose, the fan structure is pivotally mounted to a mounting. The fan structure is sprung into its vertical position and is withdrawn upon the mounting through the access opening. During withdrawal, the fan structure is pivoted downwards automatically against its spring to allow for its withdrawal in a horizontal as distinct from a vertical position.

  • Patent number: 3960431
Abstract: A connector for electrically connecting electrical conductors having a housing within which is a holding member containing a preloaded spring, with an insulating cutting edge on the spring and an insulation cutting edge on the holding member, the cutting members acting in opposition on a conductor. Release of the spring, as by flexing the housing causes the cutting edges to cut through the insulation, into electrical contact with the conductor. A similar arrangement of cutting edges is provided for each conductor and a conductive path from one conductor to another is via the spring and/or holding member.
