  • Patent number: 10346362
Abstract: Techniques herein are for accessing non-materialized blocks of a sparse file. A method involves a storage system receiving a storage command to access a sparse file. A combined content of a set of materialized blocks and a header that identifies one or more non-materialized blocks is assembled. The combined content does not comprise a content of the one or more non-materialized blocks. Responsive to the assembling, the combined content is transferred between the storage system and a computer system.

  • Publication number: 20190185725
Abstract: Asphalt adhesive compositions and methods of producing the same are provided. In an exemplary embodiment, an asphaltic adhesive useful for self-adhering membranes includes asphalt at from about 40 to about 70 weight percent, based on a total weight of the adhesive. The adhesive also includes a low molecular weight (LMW) polyolefin at from about 1 to about 10 weight percent, based on the total weight of the adhesive. The LMW polyolefins have a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of from about 500 to about 20,000 Daltons. The adhesive has an aged peeling strength greater than an aged peeling strength of a comparable comparison adhesive, wherein the comparison adhesive includes from about 40 to about 70 weight percent asphalt but is free of a LMW polyolefin, as determined by Guobiao recommended (GB/T) 328.20-2007 in specification Guobiao (GB) 23441-2009 (self-adhering polymer modified bituminous waterproof sheet.

  • Publication number: 20190190293
Abstract: A vital signs monitor includes an equipment housing defining an equipment compartment, a circuit assembly and a battery residing inside the equipment compartment, an electrical connector forming a connection between the battery assembly and the circuit assembly, and a battery discharge circuit. A retainer joined to the equipment housing retains the battery assembly in the housing. The retainer is separable from the housing so that its separation causes a break in the electrical connection and activates the discharge circuit.

  • Publication number: 20190179222
Abstract: A small projector uses an ultra-dense array of gallium nitride (GaN) LEDs. However, epitaxial growth of GaN typically produces a GaN region that is Sum or thicker. To achieve high pixel density, the LEDs have small area, so the resulting LED structures are tall and skinny. This is undesirable because it makes further processing more difficult and has higher optical losses. As a result, it is beneficial to reduce the thickness of the GaN region. In one approach, a wafer with the GaN region on substrate is bonded to a backplane wafer containing LED driver circuits. The substrate is then separated from the GaN region, exposing a buffer layer of the GaN region. The GaN region is thinned and then patterned into individual LEDs. Typically, the buffer layer is removed entirely.

  • Publication number: 20190162601
Abstract: A protective cover for an insertion probe of a medical instrument. The cover contains a flexible tubular body that compliments the probe geometry and a radially disposed flange that surrounds the proximal end of the body. A series of snap-on fasteners removably connect the cover to the instrument. A camming surface is located on the outer face of the flange which coacts with a cam follower that is movably mounted upon the instrument to flex the cover sufficiently to open the fastener and release the cover from the instrument and move the cover axially toward the distal end of the tip.

  • Publication number: 20190119788
Abstract: Novel metallic systems and methods for their fabrication provide high temperature machine parts formed of a consolidated nano-crystalline metallic material. The material comprises a matrix formed of a solvent metal having a melting point greater than 1,250° C. with crystalline grains having diameters of no more than about 500 nm, and a plurality of dispersed metallic particles formed on the basis of a solute metal in the solvent metal matrix and having diameters of no more than about 200 nm. The particle density along the grain boundary of the matrix is as high as about 2 nm2 of grain boundary area per particle so as to substantially block grain boundary motion and rotation and limit creep at temperatures above 35% of the melting point of the consolidated nano-crystalline metallic material. The machine parts formed may include turbine blades, gears, hypersonics, radiation shielding, and other high temperature parts.

  • Publication number: 20190123033
Abstract: A monolithic display/projector is disclosed comprising a single die having an array of mechanically isolated LED pillars. Each pillar has a height greater than its width, and a pitch between pillars is less than the heights of the pillars. The die comprises an LED display portion bonded to a silicon substrate addressing portion, with one metal contact per pixel. The resolution of the display is preferably about the same as the resolution of the human retina when projected onto the human retina so that the image projected onto the retina may be indistinguishable from the real world. The display may be encapsulated into a contact lens with a focusing optic embedded into the contact lens. To electrically contact the N-type semiconductor layer, the pillars are surrounded by a reflective cathode metal mesh so that the cathode current is coupled through the vertical sides of the N-type layer. The metal mesh mechanically connects the isolated LED pillars and optically isolates each LED pillar.

  • Patent number: 10260684
Abstract: An LED bulb (10) includes a metal lead frame (50) on which is directly mounted a low beam set of first LED dies (14), a high beam set of second LED dies (16), and a high beam set of third LED dies (16). The lead frame (50) is bent so that the first LED dies (14) face upwards and the second and third LED dies (16) face sideways and in opposite directions. A thermally conductive opaque plastic body is molded around the lead frame and exposes the LED dies. The body includes light-blocking features (26, 32, 40) to cause the light emission pattern of the first LED dies (14) to be limited in lateral and vertical directions for a low beam of a headlight. The light-blocking features also cause the light emission pattern of the second and third LED dies (16) to be less limited in the lateral and vertical directions for a wider high beam of the headlight.

  • Patent number: 10168015
Abstract: An LED lamp includes a metal lead frame strip (14) on which is directly mounted bare LED dies (12), such as in series. Therefore, there is excellent thermal conductivity to the lead frame (14). Lenses (24) are then molded over the LED dies (12) to encapsulate them. The lead frame (14) is then inserted into a mold for a thermally conductive plastic body (38) and is bent in an arc while in the mold so that the top surfaces of the LED dies (12) are not parallel to each other. The plastic body is molded, and the structure is removed from the mold. The curved lead frame causes the overall light emission to be very wide, such a greater than 270 degrees. In another embodiment, the lead frame strip is supported over a curved outer surface of a pre-molded plastic support. Ends of the lead frame strip are inserted into electrical connectors of the plastic support.
