  • Patent number: 6530037
Abstract: An information storage medium is designed to assure stable continuous recording without adverse effect, even when many defective areas are present on the information storage medium. To record information onto the information storage medium, a file unit is defined as a first unit. A contiguous data area unit to be treated as a continuous recording area is defined as a second unit. Furthermore, recording is done in the contiguous data area units and a collection of the contiguous data area units is organized into the file unit. In addition, an information recording place is provided in such a manner that the contiguous data area unit is so set that it extends over the recording area of another file already recorded on the information storage medium and a defective area on the information storage medium.

  • Publication number: 20020191499
Abstract: According to this invention, general addresses are given to a multi-layer information storage medium to facilitate handing of information. That is, it is possible to set generalized addresses for multiple information layers, and information indicating a condition for setting the general addresses, e.g., the contents of a disk ID zone in a rewritable zone of a lead-in area, is recorded on an information reproducing layer.

  • Publication number: 20020191957
Abstract: This invention relates to a recording/reproduction system having a function of recording/reproducing video information with a GOP structure in the MPEG2 scheme on/from a disk. In this system, when a cut position designated by the user on the reproduction frame is set within the GOP, start picture data in the latter half of video data using the cut position as the reference position is set to I picture data. That is, when the picture data is of the B type, the CPU controls an encoder/decoder to change the picture data to I picture data. Accordingly, the latter half can be generated as reproducible video data.

  • Patent number: 6470089
Abstract: In a data recording and reproducing apparatus which records and reproduces a record medium in which at least two kinds of data having different data types can be recorded, data is read out from the record medium, and a digital watermark is detected from the data read out. The kind of data is determined depending upon whether the digital watermark is detected, and it is determined whether retry processing at the time of reading-out the data and verifying processing at the time of writing should be executed. The retry processing or the verifying processing is executed only for the data which is determined that the retry processing or the verifying processing should be executed. Therefore, in the case of data whose reading-out continuity is more important than reliability, the retry processing is omitted, so that time required for reading-out processing can be shortened.

  • Patent number: 6423821
Abstract: A method for producing poly(p-t-butoxystyrene), which comprises polymerizing p-t-butoxystyrene in a hydrocarbon type reaction solvent in the presence of a polymerization initiator, and, after termination of the polymerization reaction, conducting a separation of the hydrocarbon type reaction solvent layer containing poly(p-t-butoxystyrene) and the water layer in the presence of 1-50 parts by weight of a polar solvent per 100 parts by weight of the hydrocarbon type reaction solvent layer, wherein the separation efficiency, after termination of the polymerization reaction, of the hydrocarbon type reaction solvent layer containing poly(p-t-butoxystyrene) and the water or acidic water layer conspicuously improves.

  • Patent number: 6327674
Abstract: A recording and reproducing system has a computer data table and an audio visual data table as address conversion tables for managing addresses necessary for a process in response to an access command for record or reproduction transmitted from a host system to a recording medium. When a defective block occurs, in case of computer data, a substitute block is used and the physical address of the defective block in the computer data table is rewritten to the physical address of the substitute block. In case of audio visual data, the data is written in the defective block and the physical address of the defective block in the audio visual data table is maintained. In response to an access command from the host system, the recording and reproducing system executes an access process to the recording medium with reference to the computer data table or the audio visual data table, in accordance with the kind of data to be accessed.

  • Patent number: 6236832
Abstract: Music related information is transmitted to a user over a mobile telephone network, and the user can select a desired music program based on a display listing transmitted from the base station. The transmission speed of the transmitted data is checked and if the transmission speed is below a predetermined rate a data stream is generated every predetermined time with a portion of the music data being left out, so that a listenable audio signal can be produced based on this generated data stream.

  • Patent number: 6226727
Abstract: In a computer system having a recording/ reproducing device in which a DVD-RAM or the like is used as a recording medium, the CPU and the memory allocates logical blocks and record blocks, in multiple units of a common block for data to be written on a recording medium. The common blocks have a size of the least common multiple of the size of logic block and the size of record block, and the front of the allocated logical blocks coincides with the front of the allocated record blocks. The data is recorded on the recording medium by the recording/reproducing device. Hence, the data can be recorded in the most desirable manner even if the logical blocks and the record blocks defer in size.
