  • Patent number: 6370319
Abstract: A digital recording apparatus receives an analog signal containing picture and/or voice information, through an analog transmission line, and digitally records the analog signal. The analog signal is digitally recorded in a form containing electronic watermark information within a first portion of the analog signal containing the picture and/or voice information while adding copy control information indicating permission of free copying to a second portion of the analog signal not containing the picture and/or voice information when the detected electronic watermark information indicates permission of free copying. Digital recording of the analog signal is prohibited when the detected electronic watermark information indicates prohibition of copying, and the analog signal is digitally recorded with the copy control information indicating prohibition of subsequent recording added to the second portion of the analog signal when no electronic watermark information is detected.

  • Patent number: 6320829
Abstract: Copying of digital data from a digital recording medium is controlled so as to prevent unauthorized copying. The digital data is transmitted from a transmitter-side apparatus to a receiver-side apparatus through interfaces thereof in a system of a plurality of digital apparatuses connected to each other through a bus and mutually authenticated. The interfaces permit transmission and receiving of the digital data only between the authenticated apparatuses. Copy control information indicating a copy restriction level is added to main data of the digital data recorded on the digital recording medium such that the main data contains a first portion containing at least one of picture information and voice information, and a second portion containing the copy control information. Electronic watermark information is added to the second portion of the main data. An error correction code is added to the main data, and then intentional error information having a particular pattern is added to the digital data.

  • Patent number: 5636515
Abstract: A sealing structure in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine includes a gasket which is clamped between a cylinder head and a flange fastened to the cylinder head and which has a sealing portion surrounding an exhaust port opening into a side of the cylinder head, and an exhaust pipe which is curved and coupled to the flange and which is in communication with the exhaust port. In this sealing structure, the sealing portion of the gasket is formed into an endless shape to surround said exhaust port, such that the distance between the sealing portion and a peripheral edge of the exhaust port, at least at a location substantially corresponding to a projected position of the exhaust pipe on the flange, is larger than the distance at other locations. Thus, it is possible to prevent or minimize the deterioration of the sealing portion of the gasket due to heat, while avoiding an increase in size of the section associated with the exhaust system.

  • Patent number: 5544482
Abstract: An exhaust gas-purifying system for an internal combustion engine has an adsorbing device arranged in an exhaust passage thereof for adsorbing or desorbing unburnt component contained in exhaust gases. An exhaust gas recirculation passage branches off from the exhaust passage at a branch point downstream of the adsorbing device and extending to an intake passage of the engine for returning exhaust gases flowing through the adsorbing device to the intake passage. The path of exhaust gases is changed to selectively introduce the exhaust gases containing the unburnt components into the exhaust gas recirculation passage. The adsorbing capacity of the adsorbing device is checked based on a manner of change in an air-fuel ratio of exhaust gases detected when the exhaust gases are introduced into the exhaust gas recirculation passage.
