  • Patent number: 6601801
Abstract: An airfoil assembly, such as a wing or horizontal stabilizer, has a gapped trailing-edge control surface and a door connected to the control surface by a linkage such that deflection of the control surface in one direction causes the door to pivot, thus opening an air flow slot for air to flow through. The air flow slot begins to open immediately with deflection of the control surface from its nominal position, thus establishing a desirable level of air flow to suppress separation on the control surface. The linkage connecting the control surface to the door is free of rolling or sliding elements, consisting exclusively of members pivotally connected to one another.

  • Publication number: 20030004221
Abstract: A curable composition that is curable by polymerizing both a group capable of ring-opening polymerization and an ethylenically unsaturated group includes a cross-linkable polymer containing a repeating unit represented by the formula below, the group capable of ring-opening polymerization being present in a side chain of the polymer. A hardcoated article is formed by curing the curable composition. Its hardcoat layer has a pencil hardness of 4H to 9H. A hardcoated film is formed by coating on a plastic film the curable composition and curing it. The hardcoated film is used, for example, to laminate the front face of an image display device.

  • Patent number: 6375126
Abstract: A leading edge assembly for an airfoil. The assembly includes a Variable Camber Kreuger (VCK) panel which is hingedly attached at a forward end to a bullnose. Forward and aft suspension links serve to suspend the leading edge assembly within a recessed area in a lower surface of an airfoil in a cruise position. A linkage assembly operably associated with the forward and aft suspension links causes the VCK panel to be rotated from its cruise position into a take-off or a landing position in a manner which prevents scooping of air into the recessed area of the airfoil during this extending movement. A forwardmost edge of the panel overlaps a portion of the bullnose, to thus eliminate the need for a seal at this interface when the assembly is in the landing or the take-off positions. When in the take-off position, a trailing edge of the VCK panel overlaps an upper, forward edge of the airfoil to eliminate the need for a seal at this interface.

  • Patent number: 6352221
Abstract: A landing gear door assembly for an aircraft, having a closed position to cover the door opening through which the landing gear moves between its stowed and operating position. The door assembly comprises two panel sections, each of which is rotated by a related positioning section so as to rotate about a center of rotation from the closed positions upwardly and outwardly into the aircraft structure to the open position. In one arrangement, each panel section is made up of an inside and outside panel which are hinge mounted with respect to one another. These move in a manner that the outer panel moves in a path deviating from a straight rotational path to provide better clearance with the aircraft structure. In another arrangement, each panel section is rigid and is rotated about a fixed axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 6345786
Abstract: A door assembly for a landing gear of an aircraft. The door assembly comprises a door section that in turn has two panels, moveable between closed and open positions by a positioning section. In one embodiment, the positioning section comprises mounting arms fixed to the panels which are connected by parallel linkages and which move the panels in a rotational path from a closed position aligned with the door opening through a path of rotation to a location spaced laterally of the door opening, with the panels being in proximity with another and these partially overlapping. In another arrangement, the inside surfaces of the panels face one another in the open position, and the panels are hinge mounted to one another.

  • Patent number: 5722621
Abstract: A first upright leg has an upper end pivoted to the body of an aircraft by a first bracket secured to the aircraft skin, alongside a second leg pivoted to the aircraft by a second bracket. The bottom ends of the first and second legs are pivoted to a load bearing member which extends generally upward between them. The load beating member has a load connection point for pivotal attachment of the aft end of an aircraft trailing edge flap track thereto. Upward force applied at the load connection point by the aft end of the track biases the first leg, second leg and load bearing member to a stable central equilibrium position from which the aft end of the track can move laterally a few inches in either direction. Such force is transmitted primarily through one of the legs, rather than through both legs, and is applied to the body of the aircraft primarily as shear rather than as a punch load.

  • Patent number: 5158252
Abstract: A variable camber flap assembly having first and second operative positions. A rotatable drive arm powers first and second linkage subassemblies. The first linkage subassembly extends the flap panel in a downward and forward direction to its operative positions, and also rotates a hinged bullnose outwardly so as to foreshorten the distance between the leading and trailing edges of the flexible flap panel, increasing the camber of the flap. The second linkage subassembly cooperates with the first to angularly orientate the flap panel in its operative positions, and also positions the trailing edge of the panel relative to the leading edge of the airfoil. In the first operative position the trailing edge of the panel is spaced forwardly from the leading edge of the airfoil so as to form an aerodynamic slot; in the second operative position the flap panel is drawn rearwardly so that its trailing edge forms an aerodynamic seal with the airfoil.

  • Patent number: 5149023
Abstract: Side stick controllers with isolated pitch and roll control movement may be mechanically linked. A control stick mechanism includes a hand-operated control member (10, 10') movable to swing about two axes of rotation (12, 14). A first lever member (16, 16') on the control member (10, 10') moves in response to swinging movement of the control member (10, 10') about a first axis of rotation (12). A reciprocating member (20) has a first portion (22) pivotally attached to the control member (10, 10') at a location (24) spaced from the second axis of rotation (14). The reciprocating member (20) has an elongated second portion (26) axially movable along a line of reciprocation substantially co-axial with the first axis of rotation (12) in response to swinging movement of the control member (10, 10') about the second axis of rotation (14).

  • Patent number: 5137234
Abstract: Asymmetrical mechanical linkages for sidestick roll controllers located at the pilot and copilot stations of aircraft and other vehicles with fly-by-wire control systems. The asymmetrical character of the linkage reduces the level of exertion required to rotatably displace the sidestick in the outboard direction and, as an important consequence, significantly reduces pilot fatigue.

  • Patent number: 5056742
Abstract: A modular, pedal-type rudder, brake, and nose gear steering control assembly for an aircraft. The modules are installed below the instrument panel in the cockpit of the aircraft, thus avoiding the need for floor or bulkhead penetrations. Mechanical linkage arrangements are provided for dual side-by-side pilot stations. Adjustable positioning of control pedals relative to each pilot is provided. Pedal adjustment is accomplished by moving the pedals toward or away from a pilot along an arcuate path to an extent dependent upon the length of the pilot's legs. The arcuate path of adjustment is inclined upwardly with respect to the horizontal, providing ergometrically improved operation of the control pedals.

  • Patent number: 4963383
Abstract: A process for producing a konjak (a substance made from the starch of the corms of the plant Amophorphallus Rivievi) jelly which may be added to various kinds of food is disclosed. The konjak jelly is produced by adding water to konjak flour to cause the latter to swell and dissolve in the former, and mixing the resulting paste with a basic amino acid, a basic salt, or a mixture thereof; or adding to konjak flour water which has been mixed with a basic amino acid, a basic salt, or a mixture thereof in advance; or mixing konjak flour with a basic amino acid, a basic salt, or a mixture thereof in advance, and adding water to the resulting mixture to cause the latter to swell and dissolve in the former; and heating the resulting konjak paste under alkaline conditions and then cooling it. The konjak jelly thus produced may be added to various kinds of food to improve the flavor or the like or may be added to diet food. Thus, it is possible to diversify the use of konjak.
