  • Publication number: 20060154699
Abstract: A method and apparatus save power in a multimode wireless terminal having plural communication modems for supporting different communication systems. The multimode wireless terminal performs its basic functions of reception and transmission, while only one of the communication modems is turned on and the others are turned off so as to reduce power consumption. This results in extension of the utilization time of the multimode wireless terminal.

  • Publication number: 20060133318
Abstract: A system and a method for monitoring Quality of Service (QoS) in a broadband wireless network use previously designated QoS to continuously provide stable QoS to a wireless terminal in the broadband wireless network when the wireless terminal is handed off from one base station to another. In the system for monitoring QoS, a monitoring server receives and monitors QoS information in real time from base stations having synchronized time information. When a wireless terminal in a service zone of a first base station requests to be handed off to a second base station, the monitoring server determines a QoS level according to QoS information of the second base station, and then transmits the QoS level simultaneously to the first and second base stations.

  • Publication number: 20060133302
Abstract: In an apparatus and a method for controlling traffic for real time service between a wireless local area network (LAN) terminal and an access point in a wireless LAN system, a transceiver transmits and receives a packet to and from the access point, a signal-determination unit determines whether the packet to be transmitted/received via the transceiver is a real time packet, and a signal-controlling unit controls re-transmission according to transmission failure when the packet to be transmitted is determined to be a real time packet by the signal-determination unit. In this way, the invention maintains optimum traffic status in a wireless LAN environment, and lowers the risk of resetting the access point or the wireless LAN terminal. In addition, the invention prevents several coexisting wireless LAN terminals from interfering with real time traffic thereof and from delaying or corrupting voice and image data.

  • Publication number: 20060123013
Abstract: A method for scaling a display size between different types of user agents. The method includes exchanging session initiation protocol messages including media information when performing a call setup for setting up a media session between the user agents; determining any one of the user agents to scale the display size from the exchanged media information; and scaling, by the determined user agent, the display size on the basis of the media information, and sending video data subject to the scaling to the other user agent(s).

  • Publication number: 20050122963
Abstract: An IP based voice/video communication system and call pickup/forwarding method and a program storage device, readable by a machine, tangibly embodying a program of instructions executable by the machine to perform the call pickup/forwarding method enables a subscriber can have voice/video communication irrespective of time or place by forwarding voice/video calls between voice/video communication terminals such as a TV, PDA and home pad, or by picking up a incoming call at a nearby terminal if it is difficult for the subscriber to answer the call at the originally called terminal from his/her location.

  • Publication number: 20050025176
Abstract: A medium access control method and apparatus and program storage device in a CSMA/CA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance) based wireless LAN (Local Area Network) classifies stations in a CSMA/CA based wireless LAN system into a number of groups according to a transmission priority to assign a different DIFS (Distributed Coordination Function InterFrame Space) to each group.

  • Publication number: 20050025131
Abstract: A medium access control method of a CSMA/CA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance) based wireless LAN (Local Area Network) provides contention-free medium access authority to a station or access point receiving a request signal by: transmitting a request signal frame from an arbitrary station to another arbitrary station or to an access point via a medium occupied in transmission contention with a CSMA/CA algorithm using a DCF (Distributed Coordination Function) interframe space; and transmitting an acknowledgment signal frame from the station or the access point receiving the request signal frame to the station transmitting the request signal frame via an occupied medium using a short interframe space.

  • Publication number: 20040264488
Abstract: An apparatus and method for processing packets makes use of a double queue, manages medium access control(MAC) addresses of real-time service terminals through a link list, and assigns a priority to real-time service packets, so that when packet service is provided, the real-time service packets are processed in preference, and then when the real-time service packets are completely processed, data packets are processed. Thus, it is possible to guarantee the Quality of Service(QoS) of voice or moving image packets. In addition, when the real-time service packets are only the voice packets, a fragmentation threshold value is provided to the data terminals from which the data packets are transmitted, and when the data packets transmitted from the data terminals are processed, the maximum permissible delay time of the voice packets is calculated, and then each data packet is inserted between the voice packets. Thereby, it is possible to enhance throughput for traffic of each data terminal.

  • Publication number: 20040249925
Abstract: A wireless terminal can be used in place of a remote control for controlling appliances located at a remote place. Unlike using infrared remote controls to control a plurality of appliances, one 802.11x wireless terminal can now control the appliances. Therefore, a user having a mobile phone, a smart phone, a PDA, a VoIP terminal or any other wireless terminal can easily control a plurality of appliances. In particular, a terminal such as a PDA with a special image display device can be provided with a user interface that has the exactly same configuration as a remote control. On the other hand, a general mobile phone with a display only has a special character indicating a remote control function.
