  • Publication number: 20060203480
Abstract: A backlight assembly includes a plurality of lamps to generate light, a diffusing plate, a receiving container and a first supporting member. The diffusing plate is placed over the lamps and diffuses the light. The receiving container has a bottom portion and a sidewall portion extending from the bottom portion to provide a receiving space that receives the lamps. The first supporting member is disposed on the bottom portion to support the diffusing plate, and has a first inclined portion and a second inclined portion. The first and second inclined portions can be inclined to each other, or oriented in any other manner that allows them to reduce the amount of shock forces transmitted from the diffusing plate to the bottom portion. Thus, shock resistance and manufacturability of the backlight assembly may be increased and display quality of the display apparatus may be improved.

  • Publication number: 20060158897
Abstract: In a backlight assembly and an LCD apparatus including a receiving unit formed by an injection molding process, a plurality of sidewalls is protruded from a bottom plate, and a receiving space is defined by the sidewalls and the bottom plate. A strength-reinforcing member is formed on a rear surface of the bottom plate to thereby reinforce a bending strength of the bottom plate. Accordingly, the receiving unit for receiving a lamp unit is formed using a material used with an injection molding process, and the strength-reinforcing member reinforces the bending strength of the bottom plate. Cost and weight of the backlight assembly and the LCD apparatus may be sufficiently reduced.

  • Patent number: 7070315
Abstract: A backlight unit for a display device includes a light guide panel comprising a plate-shaped body, at least one light guide projection for fitting the light guide panel disposed on left side or right side of the plate-shaped body, and a plurality of patterns formed on a lower surface of the plate-shaped body to uniformly project light. Upper and lower surfaces of the light guide projection are disposed remote as much as predetermined intervals, respectively from planes extended from upper and lower surfaces of the plate-shaped body. The light guide projection further includes an inclined surface on a side adjacent to a light source to prevent the light guide projections from cracking. Also, the light guide projection has at least one rounded or chamfered corner in order to efficiently prevent light concentration.

  • Publication number: 20060139919
Abstract: In a receiving container, a backlight assembly having the receiving container, and a display device having the backlight assembly, the receiving container includes a bottom plate, sidewalls, and optical support members. The sidewalls extend from an edge of the bottom plate. The sidewalls are connected to each other to define a receiving recess therebetween. The optical support members protrude from a front face of the bottom plate to support optical units thereon. The optical support members are integrally formed with the bottom plate. The bottom mold is integrally formed with lamp supporters and/or dispersion plate support members. Thus, cost required for manufacturing the bottom mold is relatively low. In addition, time required for manufacturing the bottom mold is relatively short. Furthermore, a light leakage is prevented between the bottom mold and the optical support members.
