  • Publication number: 20180262031
Abstract: Charging of a mobile device in an ad hoc parked vehicle charging system. A plurality of mobile device users and associated mobile devices are registered in an ad hoc parked vehicle charging system with a charging profile. A plurality of charging vehicles are also registered in the system with a charge supply profile. A mobile device user and associated mobile device are authenticated as a registered user in the system. A plurality of the registered charging vehicles parked within a preset distance range of the authenticated user and associated mobile device are located and one of the parked registered charging vehicles is selected based on an energy allocation criteria. A charging connection is established between the authenticated mobile device and the selected parked vehicle and charging of the mobile device is automatically controlled according to the user's charging profile, the vehicle's charge supply profile and the energy allocation criteria.

  • Patent number: 9984039
Abstract: Efficient prediction of trajectories of pollutants in a fluid is accomplished by automatic activation and deactivation of sub-domains within the mesh representing the body of fluid in question. Activation and deactivation are triggered by the transport characteristics of the pollutant, that is, the sub-domains are activated as the pollutant enters a sub-domain and deactivated as the pollutant exits a sub-domain.

  • Publication number: 20180137222
Abstract: A mechanism is provided in a data processing system for minimizing uncertainty envelopes in trajectories of evolving ensemble members. The mechanism generates a trajectory forecast of each member object of an ensemble based on an initial state-space and a model for predicting trajectories of the member objects to generate a plurality of trajectory forecasts. Each of the plurality of trajectory forecasts has an individual uncertainty envelope. The mechanism applies a classification algorithm on the plurality of trajectory forecasts to identify at least one group of member objects having similar trajectory forecasts, generates a reduced ensemble of member objects including the identified group of member objects, and reconfigures the state-space and the model for predicting trajectories. The mechanism generates an updated trajectory forecast of each member object of the reduced ensemble based on the reconfigured state-space and the reconfigured model for predicting trajectories of the member objects.

  • Patent number: 9886195
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system for analyzing data from a monitored system. During operation, the system identifies a difference between a performance of an application and a service-level agreement (SLA) of the application. Next, the system determines a correlation between the performance of the application and a disk input/output (I/O) performance of a data storage device used by the application. When the correlation exceeds a threshold, the system outputs a recommendation to migrate the application between the data storage device and a different type of data storage device.

  • Publication number: 20170351277
Abstract: A method and system of providing hot water efficiently. A cost of heating a volume of water to a predetermined temperature in a first water heater is determined. A cost of transferring a volume of hot water from a second water heater of a network of interconnected water heaters to the first water heater is determined. Upon determining that the cost of transferring the volume of hot water from the second water heater is lower than the cost of heating the volume of water of the first water heater, the second water heater transfers at least part of the volume of hot water to the first water heater. Otherwise, the volume of water is heated to the predetermined temperature in the first water heater.

  • Patent number: 9823875
Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus are provided for performing a transparent hybrid data storage scheme in which data are stored as blocks distributed among one or more flash-based storage devices (e.g., solid state drives) and one or more magnetic storage devices (e.g., magnetic disk drives). Files larger than a given size (e.g., 1 MB) are segmented into blocks of that size and stored on one or more devices; blocks of one file may be stored on devices of different types. Periodically, a utility function calculates utility values for each of some or all stored blocks based on frequency of access to the block, frequency of access of a particular type (e.g., random, sequential), a preference regarding where to store the block or the corresponding file, and/or other factors. Blocks having the highest utility values are subject to migration between devices of different types and/or the same type (e.g., for load-balancing).

  • Publication number: 20170147778
Abstract: A system for estimating fractional flow reserve (FFR) includes a front end application to receive image frames from an imaging system to develop a model of a vasculature system based on an observed concentration time profile at locations within the model using contrast dye in the vasculature system and movement of the vasculature system. A graphics processing unit is configured to represent a computed concentration time profile in the vasculature system using a Lattice-Boltzmann Method (LBM) to generate a representation of the vasculature system. A dynamic controller tunes a velocity field based on a mismatch between the observed concentration time profile and the computed concentration time profile at the locations within the model to obtain a best estimate of the velocity field to perform a FFR measurement.

  • Patent number: 9601018
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for parking space management of a managed parking structure. Information is received from a vehicle that has parked in the managed parking structure. The information from the vehicle is utilized to determine a probabilistic location of the vehicle within the managed parking structure. Responsive to determining the probabilistic location of the vehicle within the managed parking structure using the information from the vehicle, an occupied parking space evidence data structure is updated with a vehicle identifier of the vehicle as being associated with the location of the vehicle within the managed parking structure.
