The lower alignment layer has a second orientation direction. The at least one intermediate alignment layer has an intermediate orientation direction. The intermediate orientation direction is between the first orientation direction and the second orientation direction. The liquid crystal material includes a plurality of liquid crystal material portions. Each of the liquid crystal material portions is disposed between any adjacent two alignment layers.     Abstract: The present invention discloses a semi-dry type method for automatically sampling PM2.5 particles. The method an aerosol sample in a dry mode and extracts it in a wet mode to prevent sampling artifacts. In the dry mode, a first stage utilizes carbon brushes as discharge electrodes to charge aerosol particles which are then collected on the cylinder wall by the electric field setup between the high-voltage central metal rod and the grounded cylinder in the second stage. In the wet mode, DI water is injected into the EPILS in a pulsation manner by opening and closing solenoid valves intermittently, which dislodges aerosol particles deposited on the cylinder wall effectively to become a liquid aerosol sample. The liquid aerosol sample is then analyzed for chemical compositions automatically.

    Abstract: An improved hyperspectral Raman imaging system and device that obtains full scale Raman images from a sample surface in seconds, wherein the dichromic mirror is located between the objective lens and sample surface. The laser is delivered to the sample surface and the Raman image is collected and transmitted through optic fiber to a camera after filtration. By delivering the laser to the sample without going through the objective lens, a high-power laser can safely illuminate the full field of view of the objective lens, allowing for safe Raman imaging within seconds. This fast and safe Raman imaging system can be used for, among other applications, the early detection of dental caries in practical settings.

    Abstract: Embodiments are described herein for a compute resource-efficient technique for estimating a measurable effect attributable to participating in an activity. The foregoing is achieved by analyzing previously-collected features comprising different items of information associated with millions of users. The users comprise a first group that have participated in the activity and a second group that have not participated in the activity. Machine learning-based techniques are utilized to match users from each of the groups, with the goal being to match users having the same distribution of features. In particular, machine learning-based techniques are utilized to determine a propensity score for each user based on the features. Users from the first group are matched to users from the second group having a propensity score falling within a particular range. The measurable effect is determined based on an analysis of an average participation level of users matched in each range.

The bit status can indicate one of at least pass and fail. The counting status circuits are electrically coupled to each other in a sequential order. Control logic causes processing of the counting status circuits in the sequential order to determine a total of the memory elements that store the bit status. The total number of memory elements that store the bit status indicate the number of error bits or non-error bits, which can help determine whether there are too many errors to be fixed by error correction codes.

The terahertz wave through the tunable terahertz achromatic wave plate has same phase retardation in the achromatic range. The achromatic range in the terahertz band is determined according to the birefringence of the at least three phase retarders.
