  • Patent number: 5821938
Abstract: If a polygon having an even number of vertexes, which are 2n in number, is input, a middle point calculation unit 24 pairs the m-th and (m+n)-th vertexes together, and calculates the coordinates of the middle points on the line segments between the vertexes of the respective pairs, which are n in number. A centroid calculation unit 25 calculates the coordinates of the centroid of the middle points. A distance calculation unit 26 calculates the distances between the centroid and the middle points. If all the distances between the centroid and the middle points are within a specified allowable range, a symmetry decision unit 27 sets the centroid as the center of point symmetry. If the centroid is selected as the center of point symmetry, a symmetrizing unit 28 corrects part or all of the vertexes to symmetrize the polygon with respect to the centroid.

  • Patent number: 5818458
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining symmetry of a graphic includes determining a feature of an inputted graphic, the feature including coordinates of vertexes of the graphic, the vertexes including ends of graphic lines of the graphic. Thereafter, symmetry axes are formed through the graphic, and a symmetry axis is selected from the symmetry axes. Line segments are formed between pairs of opposing vertexes of the vertexes, and the distances are measured between midpoints of the line segments and a point where the line segment crosses the selected symmetry axis. Angles are determined between the selected symmetry axis and the line segments, and it is determined whether the selected symmetry axes is a valid symmetry axis. The number of the valid symmetry axes are counted, and inter-axial angles between adjacent valid symmetry axes are measured when the number of valid axes is greater than two.

  • Patent number: 5809170
Abstract: In a line-symmetrical figure shaping system, all the symmetry axis candidates of an input figure are generated based on feature data extracted from the input figure. Pairs of points on the input figure on both sides of each symmetry axis candidate are extracted, and a symmetry axis judgment segment is generated which connects the points of each pair. The distance between the middle point of the symmetry judgment segment and the symmetry axis candidate is calculated. The angle formed by the symmetry judgment segment and the symmetry axis candidate and the difference from 90.degree. are also calculated. Based on the distances and angular differences for the respective symmetry judgment segments, it is judged whether the input figure is symmetrical with respect to the symmetry axis candidate. The input figure is shaped into a figure that is completely line-symmetrical with respect to the symmetry axis candidate that has been judged to provide line symmetry.

  • Patent number: 5790700
Abstract: In a line-symmetrical figure shaping system, the symmetry axis candidate pairs of an input figure are generated based on feature data extracted from the input figure. Pairs of points on the input figure on both sides of each of two symmetry axis candidates of a selected symmetry axis candidate are extracted, and a symmetry axis judgment segment is generated which connects the points of each pair. The distance between the middle point of the symmetry judgment segment and the symmetry axis candidate is calculated. The angle formed by the symmetry judgment segment and the symmetry axis candidate and the difference from 90.degree. are also calculated. Based on the distances and angular differences for the respective symmetry judgment segments, it is judged whether the input figure is symmetrical with respect to the symmetry axis candidate pair.

  • Patent number: 5746960
Abstract: This manufacturing method of a powder injection molded part includes the steps of using a binder composition containing at least 2 kinds of thermoplastic binder components having an evaporation temperature higher than the injection molding temperature and a different evaporation initiating temperature from each other, elevating the temperature of a molded body above the evaporation initiating temperature of the binder component having the lowest evaporation initiating temperature rapidly, removing the binder component having the lowest evaporation initiating temperature from the molded body by holding this temperature, and thereafter, removing all binder components by elevating up to a temperature not lower than the evaporation initiating temperature of the binder component having the highest evaporation initiating temperature. By this method, the form unstability of final parts, which is a problem of the prior art, is resolved, dimensional accuracy is satisfied, and it is possible to shorten debinding times.

  • Patent number: 5734751
Abstract: After calculation of coordinates of points on a plane curve, a pattern recognition device calculates (S3) coordinates of foci and a major axis of a candidate ellipse and, (S4) until all points are used, (S5) a sum of distances between said point and the foci. After calculation of (S6) of the sum to the major axis, (S7) a variance of such ratios is calculated to judge (S8) whether or not the plane curve is a geometric ellipse. A mean value may be substituted for the variance. The variance may be calculated as regards sums calculated for all points. Preferably, the foci and the major axis are calculated by calculating (S1) an inscribed and subsequently (S2) a circumscribed rectangle. In this event, the candidate ellipse is inscribed in the circumscribed rectangle.

  • Patent number: 5664081
Abstract: A symmetrical image is generated from an entire object image having an approximately symmetrical shape. The object image has a plurality of control points. The object image may be a polygon having vertices as the control points. In a first step, an operator inputs image data indicative of the positions of the control points. In a second step, an axis of symmetry of the object image is determined automatically or manually. In a third step, a first control point is paired with a second control point having a symmetrical relationship with the first control point. In a fourth step, the image data is modified so that the first and second control points have symmetrical positions about the axis of symmetry. In this modification, the first point is moved to the symmetrical position, whereas the second point is fixed.
