  • Publication number: 20040042356
Abstract: A tilt of a light beam to be radiated onto an information recording disk is corrected without using a dedicated tilt sensor. The correction is performed based on the characteristic that an offset amount between a tilt amount maximizing an RF signal amplitude and a further tilt amount maximizing an LPP signal amplitude is constant and independent of positions on the same disk. A pre-pit signal indicative of an existence/nonexistence of a pre-pit formed on the disk is produced from returned light of the light beam, while an RF signal is produced from bits of information recorded on the disk on the basis of the returned light. An optimum tilt-correcting amount is decided by making use of a relationship between the pre-pit signal and the RF signal at a particular tilt amount. The tilt amount is corrected using the optimum tilt-correcting amount.

  • Publication number: 20040008421
Abstract: In the zoom lens apparatus, a lens frame for a variable-magnification lens or a correcting lens is configured of an inner frame and an outer frame, and any focus blurring due to variations in wavelength of subject light can be compensated for accurately by shifting the inner frame holding the lens relative to the outer frame. The correcting lens frame for the correcting lens is configured of the inner frame and the outer frame, and the inner frame is shifted according to variations in wavelength of subject light. Any focus blurring can be thereby compensated for steplessly according to variations in wavelength of subject light.

  • Publication number: 20030158854
Abstract: A technique aimed to decrease the resource required for operations on a structured document, decrease the amount of a memory used, and increase the processing speed when the structured document is processed. Elements constituting a structured document to be converted are separated into key elements and nonkey elements, a new element given a predetermined tag name and a predetermined attribute name is created, tag name conversion is performed to create a tag name character string and describe the tag name character string as an attribute value corresponding to the predetermined attribute name in the new element, content conversion is performed to create a content character string including contents of the nonkey elements and describe the content character string as a content of the new element, and the key elements are described unchanged in a converted structured document. The method is applied to a system handling structured documents such as XML.

  • Patent number: 6582140
Abstract: A media discharging device for an ink-jet printer includes a rubber roller and star roller. A pair of paper guides are arranged on both sides, with respect to its rotary shaft of, the star roller, opposing each other and close to the star roller. Each paper guide has a slant which is inclined gradually upward in the paper discharge direction. This slant is positioned offset with respect to the path of movement of the projections on the star roller towards the paper discharge side, so as to prevent the rear edge of the recording paper from dropping into the recessed portions of the star roller.

  • Patent number: 6563956
Abstract: The present invention provides a data compression method in which a plurality of consecutive characters of a data string to be compressed are set as a character string to be searched for. Bits of a bit string representing the set character string are allocated to at least two codewords. Thus, first and second searching codewords are generated. These first and second codewords are used as array addresses. Fist and second array tables are prepared, in which information on the past occurrence positions of the set character string is previously entered as the contents thereof. When the first and second codewords are generated from the character string to be compressed, the first and second array tables are looked up by using these codewords as the addresses of the arrays. When results of looking up these tables match with each other, it is found that the set character string occurred in the past.

  • Publication number: 20030004756
Abstract: An electronic health consultation method. Vital data indicative of a health state and photographed images of meals are input by a health advisee's client and saved in a server. A dietician's client views the electronic images of the meals, communicates the results of analysis to the health advisee's client, and stores them in the server. On the health advisee's vital data and the results of analysis of the health advisee's meals carried out by the dietician, the server determines whether or not the health advisee is healthy. If the health advisee is determined to be abnormal, this is communicated to a doctor's client.

  • Patent number: 6479914
Abstract: A motor includes a stator and a rotor facing the stator. The rotor has a magnet and an eccentric weight. The magnet is magnetized in a rotational direction and produces driving magnetic field. The eccentric weight is made of the material having a greater specific gravity than the magnet. The magnet shapes in a cylinder and a part of the cylinder is cut away to form a space. The eccentric weight is placed in the space. A rotational area of the magnet and that of the eccentric weight overlap each other. In this structure, rotation of the rotor spins the eccentric weight, thereby producing large vibrations. The eccentric weight is accommodated by a motor housing for the safety. The thin and compact motor is thus obtainable.
