  • Publication number: 20040164852
Abstract: A method and apparatus for object detection and ranging is disclosed. An returned signal is sequentially received by one of several sensors mounted on a host vehicle. Each one in turn initiates successive sampling to collect a series of returned signal values, which are then compared with corresponding threshold values previously saved in a memory device to determine whether any object is in the way of the vehicle backing up and also to estimate the relative distance from the object. The control circuit in accordance with the invention includes a processor, which together with a channel selector establishes a sequence of signal transmission and reception each time by one of several sensors. A sampled signal is first passed through an A/D converter to become digital, and then it is input to the processor for object detection and ranging computation.

  • Patent number: 6753777
Abstract: A detecting device applied to a vehicle door has a signal transceiver placed above the vehicle door to monitor by downward signals if any passenger or obstacle is near the door. A control circuit is connected to and controls the signal transceiver to emit detecting signals when the vehicle door is opened. Based on the reflected signals, the detecting device judges if any passenger is near the door, and controls the closing/opening movements of the door to avoid any possible injury to passenger.

  • Publication number: 20040090316
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing blind spot in obstacle detection as a vehicle moves in reverse relates to widening the transmission angle on two sets of ultrasonic transducers located at the rear of the vehicle. Signal transmission and reception of these two transducers are operated by a transducer control circuit that uses a channel switching means to permit only one transducer to be in a transmission mode and one transducer to be in a reception mode at any given moment. At the same time, the control circuit shuts off ringing signals remaining in a predetermined time frame to avoid signal cross talk from the transmitting transducer to the receiver transducer, which would trigger false alarms.

  • Publication number: 20040061599
Abstract: A sensor and anchoring device comprises a sensor, a cylindrical jacket and a catch bracket. The sensor is fitted into the cylindrical jacket and the cylindrical jacket is inserted into the vehicle rear bumper by an appropriate means. The catch bracket for holding the sensor is then fixed on the rear bumper by an appropriate means. The present invention is characterized by the special construction of the cylindrical jacket and the catch bracket, which allows these two parts to be easily assembled and mounted onto the vehicle bumper. The length of the cylindrical jacket can be changed, if necessary, to suit different thickness specifications for the rear bumper, such that the front end of the sensor is always salient from the rear bumper, avoiding any interference with the emission and reception of signals.

  • Patent number: 6693520
Abstract: A safety back-up sensor, formed with a cylindrical jacket with two ends and a hollow core between the two ends to accommodate a rubber bushing and a signal sensor module. Multiple parallel longitudinal resilient tabs are formed on the cylindrical jacket. The resilient tabs protrude from the exterior surface of the cylindrical jacket and have transverse teeth to prevent the senor body from being dislodged. Longitudinal ribs are formed on alternate resilient tabs to prevent the sensor body from rotating. With these specially designed transverse teeth and ribs, the sensor is able to counter the external rotating and shifting forces present in various driving conditions and to firmly affix the sensor to a vehicle bumper.

  • Patent number: 6615121
Abstract: A vehicle reversing sensor device includes a power plug for obtaining power from a vehicle, a control box connected to the power plug and having a control circuit provided therein, and at least one vehicle reversing sensor electrically connected with the control circuit. The vehicle reversing sensor is mounted on a reverse light of the vehicle to detect whether there is light emitted from the reverse light or not. When the vehicle reversing sensor detects there is light emitted from the reverse light, the reversing sensor outputs detecting signals, otherwise, the reversing sensor is not activated.

  • Patent number: 6370086
Abstract: An ultrasound sensor has a housing, a piezoelectric ceramic element and a plurality of isolating layers received in the housing. The housing has a tapered rectangle chamber defined therein for receiving the piezoelectric ceramic element. The tapered rectangle chamber has a unique shape which is able to limit the shape of the emitted ultrasound signal by the piezoelectric ceramic element. The limited range of the ultrasound signals emitted by the piezoelectric ceramic element covers the entire cross section of the vehicle and will not cause a false alarm by reflection from the ground.
