  • Publication number: 20080094700
Abstract: A reflective liquid crystal display panel is a display panel for three-dimensional display in which pixel pairs as display elements composed of one left-eye pixel L and one right-eye pixel R each are provided in a matrix. The lenticular lens is an optical member for image separation that is provided to separate the light from the left and right pixels, and numerous lenticular lenses form a lens array that is arranged in one dimension. An anisotropic scattering sheet as an anisotropic scattering element is provided between the lenticular lens and the reflective liquid crystal display panel. According to this configuration, a reduction in the quality of the reflective display can be minimized, and improved image quality can be achieved without changing the concavo-convex structure of the reflecting panel and the lens shape of the lenticular lens in display device that is capable of displaying different images to a plurality of viewpoints.

  • Publication number: 20080074564
Abstract: In a formation method for forming a fine structure in a workpiece (30) containing an etching control component, using an isotropic etching process, a mask (32, 34) having an opening (36) is applied to the workpiece, and the workpiece is etched with an etching solution (38) to thereby form a recess (40), corresponding to a shape of the opening, in a surface of the workpiece. The etching of the workpiece is stopped due to the etching control component eluted out of the workpiece in the etching solution within the recess during the isotropic etching process.

  • Publication number: 20080037121
Abstract: In a display panel, a plurality of pixel sections are arranged in the form of a matrix. Each of the pixel sections includes a pixel for displaying an image for the left eye and a pixel for displaying an image for the right eye. Lenticular lens having repeated convex surfaces is disposed in front of the display panel to deflect the light emitted from each pixel in the horizontal direction from the pixel for displaying the image for the left eye to the pixel for displaying the image for the right eye in each pixel section. Reflection plate reflects the exterior light toward the display panel and has surface projections on the surface. In this case, the focal distance f of the lens is different from the distance H between the surface of the reflection plate and the apex of the lens.

  • Publication number: 20070222915
Abstract: A plurality of pixels is arranged periodically in the x-axis direction and the y-axis direction in the display panel of a display device, and because light is blocked by the portion other than the open part in each pixel, the display panel has a two-dimensional lattice structure. The pixels are rectangular, and the length Px of the long edges in the x direction is larger than the length Py of the short edges in the y direction. A louver, in which transparent regions and non-transparent regions are arranged periodically in a one-dimensional direction, is provided on the display panel, and the angle formed by the x axis and the one-dimensional period direction of the louver is 45 degrees or less, and preferably 10 degrees or less. This configuration makes it possible to obtain an optical element having high directivity, reduced moiré, and high transmittance. It is also possible to obtain a display device having excellent display quality into which the optical element is incorporated.

  • Publication number: 20070211013
Abstract: A light source apparatus has two or more light sources that have different light-emission spectra and that can be controlled independently, and also has light sensors for detecting the quantity of light emitted by the light sources. The light sensors are composed of one type of light sensor that is not provided with a color filter for selecting the wavelength of received light, and the light sensors are sensitive to wavelength ranges that are sufficiently broad to simultaneously receive light in red, green, and blue wavelength ranges. A control circuit controls the two or more light sources to emit light in a time sequential fashion, and compares reference data with the output values of the light sensors to control the quantity of light emitted by the light sources by means of a light source drive circuit. It is thereby possible to reduce the cost and size of a light source apparatus that is capable of correcting changes in hue.

  • Publication number: 20070176887
Abstract: A display device is composed of a light source device and a transmissive liquid crystal display panel, and the light source device is provided with a transparent/scattering switching element capable of switching between states in which incident light is transmitted or scattered. Pixels for displaying are disposed in the form of a matrix in the transmissive liquid crystal display panel, and the need for another power supply and signals for the transparent/scattering switching element is eliminated by driving the transparent/scattering switching element using the signals and power supply for driving the pixels. The drive power source of the transparent/scattering switching element for controlling scattering can be made smaller and less costly in a display device that is capable of switching the range of viewing angles.

  • Publication number: 20060291243
Abstract: A planar light source, Fresnel lens sheet, and louver are disposed in the stated order in a light source apparatus. The Fresnel lens sheet deflects and focuses in one dimension light that has entered from the planar light source. The louver is disposed in the optical path of the light emitted from the Fresnel lens sheet, and the directivity of the light can be increased by restricting the traveling direction of the light to the focal direction of the Fresnel lens sheet. The light utilization ratio can thereby be increased, the directivity of planarly emitted light can be increased, and the brightness can be made uniform at the point of observation.

  • Publication number: 20060238664
Abstract: A display device comprising a light source and having an optical waveguide, a louver, an anisotropic scattering sheet, and a transmissive liquid crystal panel disposed along the path of light emitted from the light source. The light-restricting direction of the louver is tilted at an angle ? from the Y-axis direction. The value of the angle ? is set so that the arrangement direction of moiré created between the louver and the liquid crystal panel approaches the X-axis direction. A plurality of belt-shaped convex portions extending in the Y-axis direction are formed on the surface of the anisotropic scattering sheet, and are configured so that the scattering direction of the light has anisotropy. Specifically, scattering in the X-axis direction is increased, and scattering in the Y-axis direction is reduced. Moiré can thereby be reduced in a display device having increased directivity of the display.

  • Patent number: 7050020
Abstract: A 3D image/2D image switching display apparatus is provided with a liquid crystal display unit and first and second lenticular lenses. To display a 3D image, the first lenticular lens is arranged in such a way that the optical axis of the first lenticular lens coincides with the optical axis of the second lenticular lens so that pixels for a left eye display an image for a left eye and pixels for a right eye display an image for a right eye. To display a 2D image, the first lenticular lens is arranged in such a way that the optical axis of the first lenticular lens is shifted from the optical axis of the second lenticular lens by half a lens pitch so that the pixels for the left eye and the pixels for the right eye display the same image independently.
