  • Publication number: 20020075791
Abstract: There are provided an optical recording medium and a method of manufacturing the optical recording medium. The optical recording medium has a pattern of microscopic depressions and projections molded thereon with a high fidelity of replication. The method of manufacturing the optical recording medium comprises the steps of forming a photoresist layer on a substrate; exposing a predetermined area of the photoresist layer formed on the substrate to form a plurality of trains of depressions in the photoresist layer; removing the photoresist layer between the adjoining depression trains to form a master; plating the master with a metal; separating the metal coating to form a master stamper; replicating the master stamper repeatedly an odd number of times to form a mother stamper; replicating the mother stamper to form a resin substrate; and forming at least a light-transparent layer on a surface of the resin substrate on which the mother stamper is replicated.

  • Patent number: 6243352
Abstract: A novel optical disc which, while having interchangeability with a conventional MD or MD data, has a capacity far exceeding the capacity of these optical discs, and an optical disc device. The optical disc and the optical disc device take into account the constraints of the skew accompanying the increased recording density. By setting the jitter produced when recording random pattern signals on one track only to not more than 8.4% and by setting jitter increase on recording signals also on both side neighboring tracks to not more than 4.9%, the skew margin in the radial direction of not less than ±0.7° and that in the running direction (circumferential direction) of not less than ±0.6° are assured.

  • Patent number: 6118756
Abstract: A recording medium of one-side address method capable of easily detecting a synchronous signal and production method of recording medium master used for such a recording medium. The recording medium master production method includes a photo-sensitive layer exposure step using a first beam and a second beam for exposure of walls of a groove in a straight line, wherein for exposure of an area where a synchronous signal is to be recorded, the second beam alone is used while being wobbled according to the synchronous signal. Moreover, the recording medium according to the present invention has at least a groove formed on a recording plane including: an area having no synchronous signal recorded where one of the walls of the groove is formed straight and the other wall of the groove is at least partially meandered according to an address signal; and an area having a synchronous signal recorded where both of the walls of the groove are meandered according to the synchronous signal.

  • Patent number: 6016302
Abstract: An optical disc having pits shorter in length than 0.40 .mu.m, with the ratio of the width of the shortest pit to that of the longest pit being not less than 0.8, is formed by forming a master disc by light exposure using a light source having a wavelength not shorter than 350 nm. By taking advantage of the fact that the pit width A looking from the reflective film 20 of the optical disc is deceased to be smaller on forming the reflective film 20 than the pit width B looking from the disc substrate 10 by a value equal to the film thickness, a row of pits, generally broader than the pit width optimum when looking from the side oft the disc substrate 10, is formed on light exposure on the master disc using the laser light having a wavelength not smaller than 350 nm. The reflective film 20 is formed on the row of pits transcribed from the master disc to the disc substrate 10 to provide a pit width which minimizes the inter-pit interference or jitter of the playback RF signals.

  • Patent number: 5987002
Abstract: A magneto-optical recording medium formed to record an information signal on both of lands and grooves provides a capability of reproducing an excellent signal with a small magnitude of crosstalk even by narrowing a track interval more. In the magneto-optical recording medium, an optical depth d of each groove is in the range of (1/12+n/2).lambda..ltoreq.d.ltoreq.(1/6+n/2).lambda. or {-1/6+(n+1)/2}.lambda..ltoreq.d.ltoreq.{-1/12+(n+1)/2}.lambda., where .lambda. is a wavelength of a light beam to be applied onto the recording medium and n is an integer of 0 or more. When reproducing the information signal from the medium, a phase difference is given to the return light from the medium before detecting the return light.
