  • Patent number: 6185068
Abstract: A coil construction of a thin film magnetic head that can be manufactured with high yields without forming cavities between the coil layers while preventing short-circuiting between the upper magnetic pole and the coil layers is disclosed. The thin film magnetic head has a recording gap layer provided at the tips of film-shaped lower and upper magnetic poles magnetically connected in the rear portion thereof, and one or more coil layers wound around the rear portion; the coil layers having a convexedly curved upper surface and sides whose inclination angle &thgr; is within the range of 80° to 90°.

  • Patent number: 6072670
Abstract: A thin film magnetic head has, on the rear side of one and the other magnetic poles 2, 5 in the shape of a film formed on a substrate, a coil layer around a connection between both the magnetic poles, and on the end side of one and the other magnetic poles, a magnetic gap layer 3 between both the magnetic poles, and a non-magnetic track width regulating member 8 is provided on the opposite sides of both the magnetic poles 2, 5 and the magnetic gap layer 3, wherein the end of each track width regulating member 8 is positioned between the ends close to and distant from the magnetic gap layer in the other magnetic pole, and the other magnetic pole 5 formed by plating covers partially at least a portion of the end of each track width regulating member, or the end surfaces close to and distant from the magnetic gap layer in the other magnetic pole 5 are not parallel to each other.

  • Patent number: 5581429
Abstract: The thin-film magnetic head comprises a gap layer, coil layer, insulating layer, and top magnetic pole layer stacked in sequence on the bottom magnetic pole layer, and a magnetic gap formed at the end position of the gap layer. The top magnetic pole layer is magnetically joined to the bottom magnetic pole layer over the whole width at the opposite position of the magnetic gap. All these enable an easy production of the thin-film magnetic head keeping the magnetic resistance of the magnetic circuit small and having a structure appropriate to a higher recording density.

  • Patent number: 5223997
Abstract: A floating magnetic head of a monolithic type which is arranged in such a manner that a magnetic circuit is constituted by a first magnetic core having an air bearing surface and a second magnetic core to which a wire is wound and being integrally connected with the first core via a magnetic gap, and the backside of the first core is, connected with an adhesive to a holding member of a cantilever holding structure provided for a load arm in such a manner that the longitudinal central axes of the first core and the holding member coincide with each other. The magnetic head has a groove which is formed on the backside of the first core thereof in such a manner that the groove substantially parallels a magnetic gap line, the groove confronts the holding member and the distance between the gap line and an edge line of the groove adjacent to the gap line is 2 to 20% of the entire length of the first and the second cores. Furthermore, no adhesive adheres to the second core.

  • Patent number: 5052099
Abstract: A floating type magnetic head is made of a polycrystalline material. A surface to be opposed to a magnetic recording medium is undulated with lands and grooves having a height difference of 50 to 200 .ANG. on an average and a repetition pitch of 5 to 20 microns on an average. The portions, in which the heights of the lands and the grooves abruptly change, extend along the boundaries of the polycrystals. The head surface opposed to the magnetic recording medium is sputter-etched to have the predetermined surface roughness.

  • Patent number: 4628387
Abstract: A magnetic head assembly for writing on and reading out data or signals from a magnetic medium such as a floppy disc, having a read-write magnetic head and eraser magnetic heads in combination. Control of the depth of the eraser gap in this magnetic head assembly is accomplished not by the eraser magnetic head core, but by the read-write magnetic head core.
