    Abstract: Disclosed is a magnetic disk apparatus including a magnetic reproducing head portion, and a magnetic recording head including an upper magnetic core having a end portion and a rear portion. As a resist for a frame which is used for forming the rear portion, a negative resist or an electron beam resist is used, whereby the frame is formed without any adverse effect of halation from a coil insulating film.     Abstract: First and second mobile carriers are accessible to individual cells defined in a storage. The first and second mobile carriers move along overlapped paths. First and second controller circuits are connected to the first and second mobile carriers, respectively. The second controller circuit is also connected to the first mobile carrier. Even when a defect occurs in the first controller circuit, the transport mechanism allows the second controller circuit to take over the control on the first mobile carrier from the first controller circuit. The control on the first mobile carrier serves to avoid interference between the first mobile carrier and any obstacle on the path. If the first mobile carrier is removed from the path of the second mobile carrier, the second mobile carrier is allowed to keep operating. The operation of the transport mechanism can be kept without any interruption.

    Abstract: Radio tags storing parts identifying information are arranged for the individual constituent modules such as tape drives and conveying robots of the library apparatus. Upon every rise of the apparatus, the conveying robots are moved to positions permitting read of the radio tags arranged on the individual constituent modules. The parts identifying information such as the serial number is read by the tag reader and stored in the non-volatile memory. When this is different from the serial number read in the preceding run, stored in the non-volatile memory, it is determined that the part has been replaced. The statistical information of the number of operating runs is then cleared, and management of the parts service life is started.

    Abstract: A storage circuit defines a first field for storing first header bits of a first payload signal of a first data unit, a second field, and a third field for storing signal first payload signal. The first header bits are equal in number to second header bits of a second payload signal of a second data unit. A division circuit divides the first header bits by a generator polynomial to produce a first error check code. The same generator polynomial is used to divide the second header bits to produce a second error check code. A remainder of division of hypothetical header bits by the generator polynomial is summed to the first error check code to produce a sum which is inserted into the second field of the storage circuit. The hypothetical header bits are greater in number than a total number of bits in the first and second fields, so that the first and second data units can be distinguished from each other by different error check results of the first and second data units.

Moreover, the robot hand is prevented by a locking mechanism from popping out of the accessor. Furthermore, ordinary cartridges are discriminated from cleaning cartridges.
