  • Patent number: 6122148
Abstract: In a magnetic head slider having a recording-reproducing element for recording and reproducing information relative to a magnetic recording medium, a sliding protective film is formed at a front side or a rear side of the recording-reproducing element, in a direction perpendicular to a sliding surface of the recording-reproducing element, and by doing so, there can be achieved the magnetic head slider capable of high-density recording and reproduction, and also the cost of production of the magnetic head slider can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6115213
Abstract: A magnetic disk drive which is to be used for recording and/or reproducing information, and a bearing assembly for use in the same magnetic disk drive. The bearing assembly includes two bearings of different diameters, of which a small-diameter bearing is arranged within an inner periphery of a large-diameter bearing. The two bearings are joined by means of bearing coupling members for connecting respectively inner rings and outer rings of the bearings. The small-diameter bearing is arranged within the inner periphery of the large-diameter bearing, and therefore a height of the bearing assembly can be made thinner to about one and a half times a height of a single bearing. It is therefore possible to make the magnetic disk drive smaller and thinner by employing this bearing assembly.

  • Patent number: 6052255
Abstract: A magnetic disk unit is provided which can protect internal mechanisms from external force. A cover 11 covers the outer periphery of a base 12 which supports a spindle mechanism 2 and a head positioning mechanism 5. The cover 11 is connected to the base 12 elastically to reduce the possibility that the external force directly acts on the base and to assure that the external force acting on the cover is transmitted to the base via a cushioning material, whereby the spindle mechanism and the head positioning mechanism are protected from the external force.

  • Patent number: 6038104
Abstract: A rotating disk type information storage apparatus includes a rotating disk for storing information, a head for writing/reading the information, a support member for supporting the head, a first actuator for moving the support member to a predetermined position on the rotating disk, and a second actuator including a movable member supported by the support member and capable of being rotated about an axis perpendicular to a recording surface of the rotating disk, and a driving force generating member for rotating the movable member. The movable member is integrated with the support member and has the head mounted thereto, in which a center of gravity of the movable member including the mounted members generally coincides with the center of rotation of the movable member. The second actuator corrects an error in a positioning of the support member and positions the head, and the movable member is not vibrated during the positioning.

  • Patent number: 5999369
Abstract: In magnetic disk structure having a high density, positioning errors (generally referred to as "flutter error") occur due to fluctuation (i.e., flutter) of a magnetic disk. As a result reading precision deteriorates. This is a significant problem in realizing a large capacity providing magnetic disk apparatus. This can be resolved by magnetic apparatus such that a suspension which holds a slider having a magnetic head at one end and which is attached to a supporting arm at the other end is inclined so that an interval between the suspension and the magnetic disk is small on the inner rim side and is large on the outer rim side with this arrangement the occurrence of the positioning error due to the fluctuation of a deformation of the magnetic disk is reduced, thereby enabling a high density recording of the magnetic disk.

  • Patent number: 5685968
Abstract: In a ceramic substrate with a thin-film capacitor, having a ceramic substrate a lower electrode layer formed on the ceramic substrate, a dielectric layer formed on the lower electrode layer and made of an oxide of a material constituting the lower electrode layer, and an upper electrode layer formed on the dielectric layer, a plating layer is provided between the ceramic base and the lower electrode layer to serve as a basis for the lower electrode layer.

  • Patent number: 5615068
Abstract: A disk locating actuator of a disk apparatus has a carrier member carrying a head and a curved flexible printed circuit fixed at its one end to the carrier member and at its other end to a base. Angles at which the flexible printed circuit is fixed are suitably determined so as to diminish any dynamic reacting force produced by vibration of the flexible printed circuit, thus ensuring high degree of head locating precision.

  • Patent number: 5245489
Abstract: A head arm for use in a magnetic disk drive, comprising a guide arm disposed between a magnetic head and an actuator so as to transmit actuating force of the actuator to the magnetic head thereby guiding the magnetic head along a plane of a magnetic disk, a printed circuit fixed to the guide arm, and deflection compensating member for making the coefficients of thermal expansion of said guide arm and said printed circuit substantially equal to each other in at least the direction of seek of the head arm. No thermal deformation in an out-of-plane direction occurs on such a head arm regardless of any variation in the temperature of the environment in which the magnetic disk drive is installed. A head arm may also comprise a guide arm and a printed circuit formed of a moisture absorptive material and covered at all or part of its surfaces with a covering layer formed of a moisture resistive material not permeable to moisture.

  • Patent number: 4870258
Abstract: A booklet, such as a passbook is transferred to the position, in which a page turning device is provided, on a base, by a transfer mechanism comprising driving and follower rollers. During a page turning operation, the booklet is pressed from the rear side thereof against the page turning device by a pressing force which is varied in accordance with the rigidity of the paper in the booklet. The page turning device is turned with the booklet, pressed against the same, to transfer the booklet at a speed according to the turning condition of the uppermost paper in the booklet, whereby the page turning operation is carried out.

  • Patent number: 4752849
Abstract: A carriage in a position control mechanism using an access mechanism of a magnetic disk device or a linear motor is supported linearly movable in parallel to a positioning reference plane on a stationary side by means of a carriage support mechanism. The carriage support mechanism is composed of support units rigidly engaged with the carriage or the stationary side and support units elastically engaged with the carriage or the stationary side. The rigidly and elastically engaged units are selectively arranged so that the carriage is prevented from being inclined by thermal deformations due to the heat generation caused upon the driving of the carriage.
