Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes: a document reading unit 110 allowing input of image data generated from a read document, a paper feed unit 140 containing recording paper, an image forming unit 120 forming an image on the recording paper based on the image data, and a touch-panel display 132 displaying a preview image representing a state of image formation. The touch-panel display displays a preview image in a designated orientation for a document of a prescribed size, and displays a preview image in accordance with size and orientation of recording paper fed from the paper feed unit, for a document not of the prescribed size. Thus, for documents of a prescribed size, preview images in a prescribed orientation can be displayed regardless of the direction of arrangement of the recording paper, and easier confirmation of expected finish of the formed image becomes possible.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a document reader, a storage for storing image data, an image output unit and a control unit. The control unit includes a display image generator for generating a display image, a display panel and a control unit-side controller having a function of presenting the display image based on the image data input in a preview representation and an output processing function of implementing an output process. As the output processing function, two schemes are provided: a first output scheme wherein, when image data has been input through the input unit, the images are output after displaying the images to be output in a preview representation on a display panel, and a second output scheme wherein, when image data has been input through the input unit, the image is directly output without displaying the image to be output in a preview representation on the display panel.

Abstract: An energy saving setting unit controls an image forming apparatus that makes a transition to a power saving state if a transition time passes without any prescribed operation in a normal state, and it includes: a unit for storing specific day information distinguishing a normal operation day and a specific day; an auto pattern updating unit determining the transition time in a normal operation day based on past operational status of the normal operation day of the image forming apparatus; a specific day pattern registering unit receiving and storing setting of the transition time of the specific day; and a switching unit, switching the state of conduction of the image forming apparatus using the transition time determined by the auto pattern updating unit and the stored transition time, on the normal operation day and on the specific day, respectively, based on the specific day information.

Abstract: A system and method for generating passive metadata from user interface selections at an imaging device includes an imaging device and at least one destination having at least one controllable setting. The imaging device preferably includes a document imaging system for capturing an image file, a user interface system for accepting passive data user input pertaining to the image file, a data conversion system for converting the passive data into a metadata file, and a transmission system for transmitting the image file and an associated metadata file through a network to at least one destination. The passive data affects at least one controllable setting of the destination. Passive data may be, for example, routing information, user information, file formatting instructions, and/or billing information.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus is described. Selecting a function desired by a user from among functions provided in the apparatus is provided to improve operability as well as eliminating erroneous copy. In the image forming apparatus, an operation unit includes a display panel for displaying a function selecting portion. An operation unit side control portion, as the function selecting portion, has a first function selecting portion in which selectable function items are displayed corresponding to an operation mode and a second function selecting portion in which other function items which are selectable at the same time. The first function selecting portion and the second function selecting portion are displayed at the same time on the display panel, so that functions of the first function selecting portion and functions of the second function selecting portion are selectable at the same time.

The display device may be an external PC for management, or an operation display panel of the image forming apparatus. For the time of day of which transition time cannot be determined, the shortest time period is allocated. The hour-by-hour transition time is displayed in color-coded manner. The automatically determined transition time may be changed by a user operation.

Abstract: An image output apparatus 1 performs output processes of a plurality of kinds of image data in different forms or states in accordance with the forms of the image data, and includes an image storage unit 100 for storing or saving the image data having undergone the output processes by sorting the image data in accordance with the forms thereof. Since the image data having once undergone the output processes are stored or saved in the image storage unit 100, if there is a need to output again the image data having once undergone an output process for the reason that the first output process has failed or the number of copies printed in the first output process has been insufficient, the same image data need not be input again, and thus, the load on the apparatus can be reduced and the image data can be output again in a short time.
