  • Patent number: 5895663
Abstract: Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride extended-release tablets including a sustained release hydroxypropylmethylcellulose matrix and a microcrystalline cellulose disintegrant formed by a dry mixed, direct compression method.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 31, 1997
Date of Patent: April 20, 1999
    Assignee: L. Perrigo Company
Inventors: Jack T. Irwin, Shirish A. Shah
  • Patent number: 5824338
Abstract: A medicament includes a caplet having a peripheral land which is inserted into mating capsule shell halves each with internally formed recesses defining external peripheral lands which align when the shell halves are fitted over the caplet. In one embodiment of the invention, the internal diameter of the capsule shells is selected such that the caplet will fit within the capsule cell regardless of its orientation, while in another embodiment the caplet land mates with the internal recesses of the capsule shells. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the capsule shells have different lengths and diameters such that one overlaps the other and can be sealed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 19, 1996
Date of Patent: October 20, 1998
    Assignee: L. Perrigo Company
Inventors: Richard L. Jacobs, Shirish A. Shah
  • Patent number: 5773031
Abstract: An orally administrable sustained-release dosage form includes particles of an active pharmaceutical ingredient which is coated with a polymeric material that is water-insoluble, but water-permeable and water-swellable, so that the sustained-release dosage form provides controlled release which is independent of certain variable physiological factors such as pH. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the active pharmaceutical ingredient is acetaminophen and the coated acetaminophen particles are combined with uncoated acetaminophen particles to provide a combination immediate-release/sustained-release dosage form.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 27, 1996
Date of Patent: June 30, 1998
    Assignee: L. Perrigo Company
Inventors: Shirish A. Shah, Chris Y. Ho
  • Patent number: 5494267
Abstract: An improved castable refractory composition having excellent resistance to attack from slag can be efficiently transported to a destination, such as a mold, using a pump. The castable refractory composition includes about 36-92% by weight silicon carbide, about 8-20% by weight of a colloidal silica binder, and a balance substantially of other refractory materials which can include alumina, microsilica, graphite, and a setting agent. The composition of the invention can be used alone or in addition to a conventional refractory casting material to form a refractory lining. When used together, the conventional refractory composition is used to construct a lower layer in the refractory lining, and the composition of the invention is used to construct an upper refractory layer above the lower layer.
