  • Patent number: 5707129
Abstract: A headlamp for vehicular use including a rotatable shade composed of a right shade and a left shade and which constitutes a clear-cut line vertically moving adjusting device for vertically moving and adjusting a clear-cut line of a low beam produced by the headlamp, a curved road detecting device for detecting a condition of a curved road in front of the vehicle, and a main optical axis lateral direction tilting adjusting device. The rotatable shade is rotated by a predetermined amount in accordance with the information of a curved road detected by the steering sensor so that the clear-cut line is vertically moved and adjusted. Further, the reflector (and the bulb mounted thereon) is laterally slid by a predetermined amount so that the light distribution pattern and the "hot zone" are laterally moved and adjusted. Accordingly, the visibility, especially the visibility on the steering side, is improved when the vehicle travels on a curved road at either low or high speed.

  • Patent number: 5645338
Abstract: A light distribution control device includes a projection type headlamp for a motor vehicle in which a clear cut line in a light distribution pattern is varied by rotating a shade for forming a clear cut line about a horizontal support shaft. A vehicle-to-vehicle distance measuring sensor for measures a distance between a vehicle carrying the light distribution control device and another vehicle running in front of the former, and a shade rotation control unit controls the rotational position of the shade. The angular position of the shade at which the amount of glare at an eye point specified by a vehicle-to-vehicle distance and a rotation angle of the steering wheel is smaller than a tolerable quantity of glare is stored in the form of table data in the control unit. The control unit sets the rotational angle of the shade on the basis of distance information measured by the vehicle-to-vehicle distance measuring sensor, and the steering angle of the steering wheel.

  • Patent number: 5436807
Abstract: In a variable-light-beam-pattern four-lamp type headlamp system with two lamps juxtaposed on each side of a vehicle and in which the two lamps are projection lamps with reflectors, the direction of the reflector of at least one of the two projection lamps is changed to deflect the output light beam thereof vertically and/or horizontally, and the two projection lamps are on-off controlled, with the one projection lamp being controlled in its distribution of light so that the output light beam of the two projection lamps are combined to provide a light distribution pattern, whereby formation of a dark region is prevented.

  • Patent number: 5426294
Abstract: A glare sensor includes a light condensing means for condensing light beams from the fore scene and photo sensing element for sensing the light beams from the light condensing means. The photo sensing element is constructed with photodiodes. Blue filters are selectively coupled with the photodiodes. With provision of the blue filters, the glare sensor is able to discriminate red light from white light or yellow light. The output signals of the photodiodes with the blue filters and the photodiodes with no filters are used for detecting the direction and color of the light coming from the fore scene. With this, the glare sensor is capable of detecting forerunning cars, oppositely running cars and traffic lights.

  • Patent number: 5422793
Abstract: A projection-type headlight in which changes in the focal length of the projection lens cause color fringes arising due to chromatic aberration to be less noticeable in the luminous intensity distribution pattern, while a good horizontal spread is obtained in the luminous intensity distribution pattern. The projection lens is designed so that its focus lies at the front end of the top edge of a shield plate in a region within a predetermined distance from the optical axis as seen from the front, whereas the back focal length increases with decreasing distance to the margin of the lens in a region outside the first region. The projection lens is also designed in such a way that the amount of change in the back focal length of a sectional lens portion in region as cut through a vertical plane including the optical axis is smaller than the amount of change in the back focal length of a sectional lens portion in region as cut through a horizontal plane including the optical axis.

  • Patent number: 5412543
Abstract: In the rear of a collimator lens there is disposed a reflector having a bulb serving as a light source, and a shade is interposed between the collimator lens and bulb. The reflector is mounted by means of a guide engagement mechanism, which is arranged such that guide pins provided in the front edge portion of the reflector are pivotally and slidably engaged with a plurality of guide grooves formed in a guide plate fixed on the side of the collimator to thereby be able to deflect an optical axis. The guide engagement mechanism controls or displaces the reflector by use of a control motor. The shade is fixedly secured on the side of the collimator lens.

  • Patent number: 5379196
Abstract: A projection headlamp for vehicles has a substantially elliptical reflector 14, a light source (bulb) located at the first focal point F1 of the reflector 14, a projection lens 16 disposed in front of the reflector 14, and a shade 20 located at a position near to the second focal point F2 and the focal point of the projection lens 16. The shade 20 partially intercepts light beams going from the reflector 14 toward the projection lens 16. The shade 20 is allowed to turn about the horizontal shaft 23 of the reflector 14 to adjust the beam distribution pattern. The shade 14 includes right and left shades 21 and 22, which are separated and horizontally extended when seen from the point substantially right under the optical axis L, and are allowed to independently turn about the horizontal shaft 23.

Abstract: A projection headlamp for cars has a substantially elliptical reflector 14, a light source 12 located at the first focal point of the reflector 14, a projection lens 16 disposed in front of the reflector 14, and a shade 20 located at a position near to the second focal point of the reflector 14 and the focal point of the projection lens 16, and the shade 20 partially intercepting light beams going from the reflector 14 toward the projection lens 16. The shade 20 is formed of a tubular member having a step 23 for forming preset light beam distribution patterns. The step 23 spirally extends on the circumferential outer surface of the tubular member in the axial direction. The shade 20 is rotatable about the horizontal shaft 24 of the reflector 14.
