  • Publication number: 20030195963
Abstract: A browser state repository (BSR) service allows a user to save and restore independent browser states of active sessions between browsers and sites. Each independent browser state may be associated with the user and stored as a browser snapshot. The user may later retrieve any saved browser snapshot on any browser and/or any device and restore the corresponding active session with the corresponding site. The BSR service decouples the traditional association between the browser state and a device, in favor of an association between the browser state and a user that is independent of any browser or device.

  • Publication number: 20030163558
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for an operator to monitor access network services available to an end device, where the end device communicates in a heterogeneous network environment. The heterogeneous access networks can include networks such as a cellular network, a satellite network, a local area network (LAN) and a Bluetooth network. Different access networks may be available to the end device based on a location of the end device and a time that the network is being accessed. A subscriber to the system, or user of the end device, desires access to a particular network depending on the available access networks. To determine which access networks are available, an operator instructs the end device to determine available access networks located with the heterogeneous network environment. The access network information is collected from at least one node within the heterogeneous network, and made available to the operator.

  • Publication number: 20030148777
Abstract: A system and method for using subnet relations to determine paging areas, for performing authentication and association, and to activate access network interfaces in wireless communication devices in a heterogeneous access network. Paging areas are generated using subnet relations by determining mobility agent servers within a predetermined number of subnet relations from a last active mobility agent server. Authentication and association are also accomplished using subnet relations. Access network interfaces can also be turned on and off based on subnet relations thereby conserving battery power.

  • Publication number: 20030147364
Abstract: A system and method for monitoring subnet relations in a wireless communication system is disclosed. A wireless communication device is provided and is located in a first subnet. When the wireless communication device executes a handoff to a second subnet, a mobility agent server notifies a virtual operator server of the handoff. As a result of the handoff, a subnet relation is created between the first subnet and the second subnet that is stored and later used to control how the wireless communication device uses power by placing network interface systems that cannot be used in a power-saving mode.

  • Patent number: 6501856
Abstract: A scheme for detecting telop character displaying frames in video image which is capable of suppressing erroneous detection of frames without telop characters due to instability of image features is disclosed. In this scheme, each input frame constituting the video data is entered, and whether each input frame is a telop character displaying frame in which telop characters are displayed or not is judged, according to edge pairs detected from each input frame by detecting each two adjacent edge pixels for which intensity gradient directions are opposite on some scanning line used in judging an intensity gradient direction at each edge pixel and for which an intensity difference between said two adjacent edge pixels is within a prescribed range as one edge pair, edge pixels being pixels at which an intensity value locally changes by at least a prescribed amount with respect to a neighboring pixel among a plurality of pixels constituting each input frame.

  • Publication number: 20020168962
Abstract: A method and system for providing a customized service in a communication network is disclosed. An initial service request is generated with a terminal. The initial service request is then sent to a service provider server that is connected to the terminal. The initial service request is then analyzed with the service provider server, wherein the step of analyzing the initial service request comprises the steps of: (a) authenticating the terminal to verify that the terminal is authorized to conduct communication on the communication network; (b) ensuring service availability for the terminal by retrieving a service identifier for the terminal from a user information database located on the service provider server; (c) generating an authentication notification based on the results of steps (a) and (b) with the service provider server; and transmitting the authentication notification to the terminal from the service provider server.

  • Publication number: 20020129126
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for implementing migration of an application among heterogeneous devices. An application consists of sets of one or more component. The application running on a source device and the hardware configuration of the target device are examined to port the application to the target device by selecting at least one component from each set that fits to run on the target device. The running state of the application that exits on the source device is captured and sent to the target device. The target device loads the ported application and instantiates it, using the captured running state of the application.
