  • Patent number: 5065311
Abstract: In a composite system in which a plurality of data base systems and data communication are treated as respective subsystems. At the occurrence of a fault in one subsystem, other subsystems are allowed to operate continuously, thereby facilitating recovery after a faulty subsystem has started up. A controller performs as to which data base system a transaction in execution has accessed so that the range of failure is confined, thereby facilitating the fault recovery. The check points of two processings including updating of information in the memory and accumulation of the updated information in the journal are detected so that the need of journals for information occurring earlier than the check point is eliminated, and a check point dump is acquired without waiting for the end of a transaction which has been active at the check point.

  • Patent number: 5062046
Abstract: A multiple processor system composed of a plurality of instruction processors allows a plurality of its subsystems for performing data processing in each unit to be operable simultaneously with and parallel to each other in each of the instruction processors. The multiple processor system has a processor designation table and a control processing subsystem. As the processor designation table specifies correspondence relation between a subsystem accessing to each input-output resource and the instruction processor executing the subsystem, the processing control subsystem transfers control of the processing to the instruction processor to be designated by the processor designation table in accordance with the subsystem to be used with reference to the processor designation table during execution of the data processing.

  • Patent number: 4864602
Abstract: A facsimile machine includes an automatic calling and answering net control unit (AA-NCU) which is connected to a private automatic branch exchange (PABX). The AA-NCU has three modes of operation in accessing an outside line, typically a public telephone line. The access mode of operation is set and stored when the facsimile machine is first connected to a particular PABX having a particular outside line access mode. A call control procedure is also set and stored in the facsimile machine. When the information input by an operator agrees with the stored call control procedure, the AA-NCU is controlled to place a call to an outside line in a mode appropriate for the associated PABX automatically.

  • Patent number: 4734287
Abstract: There is disclosed a proteinaceous, water-dispersible, macrocolloid comprising substantially non-aggregated particles of dairy whey protein. The particles have a mean diameter particle size distributions in a dried state, ranging from about 0.1 microns to about 2.0 microns, with less than about 2 percent of the total number of particles exceeding 3.0 microns in diameter. The majority of the said particles are substantially spheroidal when viewed at about 800 power magnification under a standard light microscope. The colloid has a substantially smooth, emulsion-like organoleptic character when hydrated. There is also disclosed a process for preparing the above described product.

  • Patent number: 4709935
Abstract: A rear wheel steering system of the trailing arm type suspension for rear wheels having a trailing arm for supporting at the rear portion thereof a rear wheel and extending essentially in the longitudinal direction of a vehicle body by pivotally securing the front end thereof to the body side. Lateral arms are rotatably coupled at the outer ends thereof to the rear portion of the trailing arm and extending essentially in the lateral direction of the vehicle by pivotally securing the inner ends thereof to the vehicle body. The trailing arm allows the front portion thereof to displace essentially in the lateral direction of the vehicle. The rear wheel suspension arrangement allows the trailing arm to displace substantially in the lateral direction of the front end thereof and which comprises an actuator for steering a rear wheel by operating the trailing arm to displace the front portion of the trailing arm essentially in the lateral direction of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4637238
Abstract: A folding key for vehicles, in which a key body is pivotally mounted in a dished cap so as to be capable of pivoting with respect to the cap. The key body has a pivot portion which is directly supported by a bearing bore formed in the cap, or which is clamped and supported between a first bearing portion provided in a bottom surface of a recess in the cap and a second bearing portion provided in a support member fitted in the recess in the cap. In the latter case, a resilient tongue is resiliently engaged with an inward end of the key body to retain the same. The cap has formed therein a cut-out with which the key body is engaged upon ultimate levelling of the key body. Preferably, the cut-out is formed in a portion of a peripheral edge of the cap, which is located at a rear of the peripheral edge with reference to an advance direction of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4445868
Abstract: An apparatus capable of being used by a child for the production of rubbings includes a housing which is divided into a first section and a second section. The second section is hinged to the first section. At least two elements are located in the first section. Each of the elements has a plurality of independent surfaces with raised relief indicia located on the surfaces. The elements are rotatably mounted in the first section so as to locate at any one time one of the surfaces on each of the elements in a working plane. Each of the surfaces so located in the working plane is capable of supporting material which is capable of receiving a rubbing. The second section is positionable on the first section in a holding position, so as to hold the material against the surfaces in the working plane during the production of the rubbing. The rubbing is produced by drawing a crayon or the like over the surface of the material to transfer the outline of the raised relief on to the material.

  • Patent number: 3988404
Abstract: This invention generally pertains to a process for producing a foamed thermoplastic resin article by utilizing the phenomenon that a solid thermoplastic resin sorbs a gas under pressure, and more particularly to a process for producing a foamed thermoplastic resin article comprising the steps of making a solid thermoplastic resin containing a nucleating agent quickly sorb a gas under a high pressure P.sub.1, lowering said gas pressure to a low pressure P.sub.2 (P.sub.1 > P.sub.2 > the atmospheric pressure) when the gas sorption quantity reaches a predetermined value so as to equilibrate or stabilize said predetermined gas sorption quantity, feeding said gas sorbed thermoplastic resin into an extruder while said gas pressure is maintained at said low pressure P.sub.2 and extruding the resultant resin to thereby produce a foamed thermoplastic resin article. In this invention, the gas sorbed by the thermoplastic resin contributes to foam in the thermoplastic resin.

  • Patent number: 3969213
Abstract: Electromagnetic effects are optimized in a rectangular aluminum reduction cell arranged in series in a row of such cells with the cathode collector bars thereof extending through the cell cathode parallel to the row length by utilizing generally L-shaped cathode bus bars connecting the upstream ends of the cathode collector bars to line bus bars adjacent the cell ends, the L-shaped cathode bus bars each having one leg extending from its connectors with the upstream ends of at least one cathode collector bar beneath the cell to approximately the longitudinal cell axis and the other leg extending to the right or left generally along said longitudinal cell axis to connect with a line bus bar. The downstream ends of the cathode collector bars are arranged in conventional fashion. The present arrangement minimizes wave formation in the aluminum layer and promotes circulation of the electrolytic bath.
