The groove structure layer includes an indent groove, corresponding to the indent region of the second electrode. Second hydrophobic layer is over the groove structure layer. Polar fluid is disposed in the indent groove and remains in contact with the first electrode. Non-polar fluid is disposed in the gap between the first and second structural layers.

The polar solution layer is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The non-polar color solution layer is disposed between the first substrate and the polar solution layer and includes at least one non-polar solvent, at least one dye and at least one improvement agent. The improvement agent is dissolved in the non-polar solvent, and the improvement agent is not dissolved in the polar solution layer.

A plurality of first electrodes and a plurality of corresponding second electrodes are disposed on the first substrate and face the second substrate. A barrier layer is between the plurality of first electrodes and the plurality of second electrodes, such that the plurality of first electrodes is electrically insulated from the plurality of second electrodes. A plurality of ribs is on the first substrate to form a plurality of pixel regions. A polar liquid and a non-polar liquid are between the first and second substrates. The barrier layer is between the polar liquid and at least one of the plurality of first electrodes and the plurality of second electrodes, and the non-polar liquid is in direct contact with the barrier layer in each pixel region.

A first partition structure is disposed on the first substrate; thereby defining a plurality of color sub-pixels. A dye and/or a pigment substance is doped in one of the polar fluid layer and the non-polar fluid layer. A luminescence substance is doped in one of the polar fluid layer and the non-polar fluid layer. An emission module (also known as an excitation module) is disposed underlying the bottom of the first substrate. The colors of the non-polar fluid layer in the neighboring sub-pixels are different.
