  • Publication number: 20030043166
Abstract: If gamut mapping (hue restoration) defined by one Lab color space is applied in color matching under different reference white points, the human vision perceives the hue as inconsistent. In view of this, input data which is dependent on a color space of an input device is converted by the conversion LUT 11 to color space data which is independent of any devices, based on a viewing condition at the time of viewing an input original. The data is converted to data in the human color perception space by the forward converter 12, then subjected to gamut mapping, and converted back to data in the color space independent of any devices by the inverse converter 15, based on a viewing condition at the time of viewing an output original. Then, the data is converted to output data in a color space which is dependent on an output device by the conversion LUT 16.

  • Publication number: 20030046019
Abstract: When a color-reproducibility precision is determined with a plurality of evaluation colors, an overall color-reproducibility precision needs to be obtained with the plurality of evaluation colors to evaluate color reproducibility with a high precision. A color-evaluation-scale calculation section calculates color differences and metrics from the input colorimetric values of a reference image and the input colorimetric values of an image to be evaluated, for a plurality of evaluation colors, and computes a plurality of color-evaluation scales indicating a color-reproducibility precision of the image to be evaluated, according to the calculated color differences and metrics.

  • Patent number: 6459436
Abstract: When gamut mapping (hue restoration) defined by one Lab color space is applied in color matching under different reference white points, human vision perceives the hue as inconsistent. In view of this, input data which is dependent on a color space of an input device is converted by a first conversion LUT to color space data which is independent of any devices, based on a viewing condition at the time of viewing an input original. The device independent data is converted to data in the human color perception space by a forward converter, subjected to gamut mapping, and converted back to device independent data in the color space independent of any devices by an inverse converter, based on a viewing condition at the time of viewing an output original. Then, the device independent data is converted to output data in a color space which is dependent on an output device by a second conversion LUT.

  • Publication number: 20020051002
Abstract: Upon reading an A3-size sample image, a colorimeter that can read A3 size can be used but such A3-size calorimeter is expensive. For this reason, an A3-size recording paper sheet is cut into halves, i.e., two A4-size sample images, which are measured by an A4-size calorimeter. To prevent such troublesome operation, color patches are divided into nearly half groups, and these color patch groups are printed on an A3-size recording paper sheet to have their top positions on the opposite sides. In this way, after one color patch group is measured, the sample image is rotated through 180° and is set on the calorimeter to measure the other color patch group.

  • Patent number: 6377355
Abstract: The host computer 2 defines a color gamut as a solid of a three dimensional space to represent a color reproduction area of a color reproduction device, and instructs to display the color gamut in accordance with combinations of information on the color reproduction area on the basis of second and third axes extending to both the positive and negative directions in a plane perpendicular to a first axis of the defined three dimensional space and coordinates of the first axis. For example, the information on the color reproduction area in the plane perpendicular to the first axis can be represented by a two dimensional area, a two dimensional coordinate area, bit map data, or two dimensional vector data, thereby the color gamut for realizing a color gamut checking function is easily confirmed.

  • Publication number: 20020039103
Abstract: When color matching using CIECAM97s is carried out, it is required that the characteristics of lighting conditions be detected simply and accurately. In a conventional method of detecting lighting conditions, accurate characteristic values cannot be detected if the user selects lighting conditions of a variety of types sensorially. If detection is performed directly by a photometric sensor, on the other hand, apparatus having a complicated structure is required. According to the invention, therefore, the rated-product number of a lighting lamp is input, a lighting characteristic value is calculated based upon the rated-product number, and color matching processing is executed using a color appearance model that is based upon the lighting characteristic value. As a result, lighting characteristics can be detected simply and accurately and it is possible to execute color matching processing using a color appearance model that takes lighting into account.

  • Publication number: 20010043376
Abstract: Disclosed are a highly versatile image processing method and apparatus wherein it is possible to preview an image that takes into account a change in the color reproduction characteristic of an output device with the passage of time, as well as a computer readable memory storing a program for executing this preview processing. A printer that outputs an image is calibrated in regard to its image output characteristic and a set of one-dimensional LUTs that conforms to the color reproduction characteristic of the printer is generated. On the basis of the set of one-dimensional LUTs, the content of a set of one-dimensional LUTs, which is used when PCS data that has been stored in a profile corresponding to the printer is converted to data dependent upon the printer, is modified, and another set of one-dimensional LUTs, which is used when data dependent upon the printer is converted to PCS data, is modified.
