  • Publication number: 20150056993
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided in which a user equipment performs an inter-radio access technology (RAT) mobility procedure from a first network to a second network while idle mode signaling reduction (ISR) is active, locally deactivates ISR in connection with completion of the inter-RAT mobility procedure, and initiates a location management procedure in the second network. Depending on the respective type of the first and second network, and the connection state of the UE with respect to the first network, the mobility procedure may be performed in response to a mobility command received from the first network, or in response to a mobility condition of the first network as detected by the UE.

  • Patent number: 8934331
Abstract: A CS fallback procedure handles conflict that may arise when handover operations occur during CS fallback. If CS fallback is initiated for an access terminal and handover of that access terminal is then initiated before the CS fallback completes, the target for the handover is informed of the CS fallback so that the target may perform the appropriate CS fallback operations.

  • Patent number: 8934336
Abstract: A method is provided for facilitating preservation of session context information during an inter-radio access technology service retry. A user equipment (UE) may initiate a data transmission for a first service over a wireless communication session with a first network. Upon ascertaining that the first service has failed over the first network, a failover procedure is initiated by sending a service request for a second service to the first network. The second service may be distinct from the first service and has the effect of suspending the wireless communication session with the first network. The UE then resends the data transmission for the first service over a second network. The UE then resumes use of the wireless communication session over the first network after resending the data transmission over the second network. This resumption is done by using context information for the wireless communication session preserved prior to the suspension.

  • Publication number: 20150003243
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described herein that facilitate efficient transfer of quality of service (QoS) context during inter-radio access technology (RAT) handovers. In particular, techniques are described herein for establishing rules for whether a user equipment unit (UE) or an associated network should establish QoS for a mixed-mode application, identifying flow to bearer mappings when translating QoS across an inter-RAT handover, mapping QoS parameters of respective RATs, mitigating QoS depreciation upon multiple handovers, performing one or more actions if QoS is not acceptable in a new RAT, maintaining QoS during tunnel mode, and handling scenarios in which a UE moves between a RAT using network-initiated QoS and a RAT using UE-initiated QoS.

  • Patent number: 8903390
Abstract: Multi-mode system selection (MMSS) enables a mobile station (MS) to prioritize MS preference for selecting particular radio air-interfaces (AI) across multiple standards (e.g., 3GPP, 3GPP2, WiMAX). 3GPP2 is developing a scheme MMSS-3GPP2 which is usually referred to as simply ‘MMSS.’ Other schemes exist e.g., proprietary ones (e.g., internal ePRL), an MMSS-3GPP based on the PLMN with Access Technologies of non-3GPP systems. MMSS OTASP messages and parameters are being defined in 3GPP2 to allow the carriers to provision MMSS parameters to the mobile device. With MMSS, the mobile can select and hence acquire cdma2000 and non-cdma2000 systems (e.g., LTE, WiMAX) based on carrier's preferences.

  • Patent number: 8903382
Abstract: Devices and methods are provided for optimizing the timing of multi-mode system scans in a wireless communication environment. In one embodiment, the method may involve determining at least one of location and movement of a mobile entity (ME). The method may involve adjusting a timer between preferred system scans based on the at least one of the location and the movement of the ME. For example, determining may involve utilizing a movement sensor (e.g., an accelerometer and/or a voltage-controlled oscillator accumulator) to detect the movement of the ME, and/or receiving signals from a Global Positioning System or the like.

  • Publication number: 20140315587
Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure propose systems and methods for managing assignment of short message service (SMS) message identifications (IDs) in a multimode device (e.g., mobile station). The proposed methods ensure that a unique message ID is assigned to each SMS transmitted by the mobile station (MS). Each retransmission of the SMS messages may be assigned a message ID similar to or the same as the previous transmission(s) of the SMS message. As a result, a network messaging center may be able to identify duplicate SMS messages that are marked with unique message IDs even if they are transmitted on different air interfaces and/or by different modems (modulators/demodulators).

  • Patent number: 8868087
Abstract: Radio access interworking technologies allow a target network to notify a source network that a mobile device has moved from source network to target network, wherein mobile device does not need to perform notification to source network. Further, source network can provide a first subset of overhead information to mobile device and, after moving to target network, mobile device can receive a second subset of overhead information from target network. Further, mobile device can perform prehashing prior to moving to target network based on a channel list received from source network.

  • Publication number: 20140179255
Abstract: Techniques are described for power conservation in emergency broadcast message reception in a wireless communications system. In accordance with a method for conserving power, one or more segments of an emergency broadcast message in an access stratum are received. The emergency broadcast message is identified as a duplicate emergency broadcast message based at least in part on one or more identifiers of the received one or more segments. The receipt of additional segments of the emergency broadcast message is terminated.

  • Publication number: 20140177429
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for reducing congestion in a wireless communications system. A second connection failure is detected, and a difference between a timestamp of the second connection failure and a timestamp of a first connection failure is calculated. Upon determining that the difference satisfies a first time threshold, information relating to one or more previous connection failures is cleared. A time period is identified. A number of connection failures from a cell that occur during the time period is identified. A determination is made as to whether the number of connection failures satisfies a threshold. Upon determining that the number of connection failures satisfies the threshold, a future connection request may be withheld for a time period.

  • Publication number: 20140162620
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for device configuration (e.g., feature segment loading and system selection). Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to operating a user equipment (UE) in a first radio access network (RAN) with a first set of modem features that supports the first RAN, detecting a second RAN not supported by the first set of modem features, and rebooting the modem software to load a second set of modem features that supports the detected RAN. For certain aspects, the first RAN may be a Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) network and the second RAN may be a Wideband-Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) network or Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network. This allows features to be loaded into memory (e.g., only) when they are required to support a detected RAN, rather than loading an entire image, thereby conserving DRAM and increasing efficiency.
