  • Patent number: 9578584
Abstract: A method for controlling tune-away of a UE from its serving base station during handover, where the UE is configured to tune away from its serving base station at scheduled tune-away times, is disclosed herein. The method includes, between a first scheduled tune-away time and a next, second scheduled tune-away time, (a) determining that the UE has threshold weak signal strength from the serving base station, and (b) responsive to determining that the UE has threshold weak signal strength from the serving base station, determining a remaining battery energy level of the UE. The method further includes, based at least in part on the determined remaining battery energy level of the UE, causing the UE to tune away from the serving base station before the second scheduled tune-away time to scan for target coverage.

  • Patent number: 9578565
Abstract: A source macro base station exchanges user data with a wireless communication device using an enhanced Radio Frequency (RF) service and receives RF measurement data from the wireless communication device. The RF measurement data is processed using a hysteresis parameter to detect a pico handover event to a target pico base station, and in response, determine if the target pico base station supports the enhanced RF service, and if the target pico base station does not support the enhanced RF service, the hysteresis parameter is modified to inhibit a pico handover to the target pico base station. The RF measurement data is processed to detect a macro handover event to a target macro base station, and in response, the hysteresis parameter is modified to drive a macro handover to the target macro base station if the target macro base station supports the enhanced RF service.

  • Patent number: 9578640
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and corresponding apparatus to make use of hybrid-ARQ repetition factors as a way to differentiate service quality to various mobile terminals. Depending on a mobile terminal's subscription service class, such as the mobile terminal's PLMN, the mobile terminal may be made to use a particular hybrid-ARQ repetition factor. For instance, a mobile terminal of a high service class may be made to use a low hybrid-ARQ repetition factor, which may help the mobile terminal experience less downlink transmission delay and thus a higher downlink data rate. Whereas, a mobile terminal of a low service class may be made to use a high hybrid-ARQ repetition factor, which may cause the mobile terminal to experience more downlink transmission delay and thus a lower downlink data rate, and may further free up downlink transmission resources to facilitate better service for other mobile terminals.

  • Publication number: 20170047850
Abstract: An electronic system and method include a controller to actively control power transfer from a primary winding of a switching power converter to an auxiliary-winding of an auxiliary power supply. The switching power converter is controlled and configured such that during transfer of power to the auxiliary-winding, the switching power converter does not transfer charge to one or more secondary-windings of the switching power converter. Thus, the switching power converter isolates one or more secondary transformer winding currents from an auxiliary-winding current. By isolating the charge delivered to the one or more secondary-windings from charge delivered to the auxiliary-winding, the controller can accurately determine an amount of charge delivered to the secondary-windings and, thus, to a load.

  • Publication number: 20170047925
Abstract: A buffer circuit includes first and second current generators, a comparator, a differential driver, and an inverter. The first current generator outputs a first current corresponding to a reference voltage. The second current generator generates a limit current corresponding to an input limit voltage, and outputs a second current having a size equal to about half of the limit current. The sizes of the first current and the limit current are controlled by the feedback voltage. The comparator generates the feedback voltage by comparing the first and second currents. The differential driver generates an internal current, and controls the internal current based on the feedback voltage. The magnitudes of an upper limit value and a lower limit value of the internal current are substantially equal to each other with respect to a reference value. The inverter generates an output current by inverting the internal current based on supply voltage.

  • Patent number: 9572167
Abstract: A method, system, and apparatus for assigning resources to a wireless communication device that experienced a call drop. A RAN may receive an origination request from a mobile station and make a first determination that within a predetermined amount of time prior to receiving the origination request the mobile station experienced a call drop. Responsive to making the first determination, the RAN may make a second determination that the RAN should allocate a first extent of resources to the mobile station rather than allocating a second extent of resources to the mobile station. The first extent of resources may be less than the second extent of resources. Responsive to making the second determination, the RAN may allocate the first extent of resources to the mobile station in response to the origination request rather than allocating the second extent of resources to the mobile station in response to the origination request.

  • Patent number: 9564104
Abstract: Techniques are presented for adjusting a brightness of a front light that illuminates a display of an electronic device. Typically, page updates on certain types of displays, such as electronic paper displays, result in a relatively large but rapid change in brightness. Therefore, by adjusting the brightness of the front light during the update (e.g., when some, a majority, or all of the pixels are in the white state) and then adjusting the brightness back to another state upon or near completion of the update, the overall brightness perceived by the user remains more uniform. Increasing the uniformity of this perceived brightness in turn decreases the jarring effect of an update and increases the experience of the user.

  • Publication number: 20170033187
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a novel approach towards enhancing the threshold voltage of an enhancement-mode field-effect-transistor (E-mode FET) using doped or polarization-graded buffer layers and utilizing drain-connected field plates to engineer peak fields. Enhancement-mode field effect transistors (E-mode FETs) with doped buffer layers replacing conventional undoped buffer layers could enable larger threshold voltages, owing to higher capacitance from the back. These FETs with larger threshold voltages, however, would experience large operational electric fields near the drain contact. Described herein are embodiments of an E-mode FET further comprised of doped buffer layer(s) in the structure of the HEMT to enable larger positive threshold voltages, with optional one or more drain field plates that modify the electric field profile in the channel of the device and improve device breakdown characteristics.

  • Patent number: 9560550
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for facilitating mitigation of interference using beamforming techniques are provided. In some embodiments, interference periodicity and interference duration associated with interference of a radar beam are used to determine an extent of time during which a lobe of a communication tower is to be modified in power, direction, or a combination thereof. Upon an occurrence of the extent of time, the lobe of the communication tower is modified in power, direction, or a combination thereof so that the lobe does not interfere with a radar beam emitted from a radar remote from the communication tower.
