  • Patent number: 9445332
Abstract: A method and apparatus for improved idle handoff a mobile station in a wireless communication system. While idling in a particular sector of the system, the mobile station will select a target sector based on a determination that the target sector has the same number of channels as the current sector, such as the same number of paging channels and perhaps the same number of frequency channels as the current sector. The mobile station will then engage in an idle handoff from the current sector to the selected target sector. By striving to hand off to a sector that has the same number of channels, particularly the same number of paging channels, the mobile station may avoid having to hash onto a channel in the target sector and may thereby minimize the likelihood of missing a page message sent while the mobile station was busy hashing onto the channel.

  • Patent number: 9442813
Abstract: Jobs submitted to a primary location of a service within a period of time before and/or after a fail-over event are determined and are resubmitted to a secondary location of the service. For example, jobs that are submitted fifteen minutes before the fail-over event and jobs that are submitted to the primary network before the fail-over to the second location is completed are resubmitted at the secondary location. After the fail-over event occurs, the jobs are updated with the secondary network that is taking the place of the primary location of the service. A mapping of job input parameters (e.g. identifiers and/or secrets) from the primary location to the secondary location are used by the jobs when they are resubmitted to the secondary location. Each job determines what changes are to be made to the job request based on the job being resubmitted.

  • Publication number: 20160261457
Abstract: Homes, enterprise establishments, and other facilities often have routing devices that route traffic to locally connected client devices. A routing device may be connected to an external network (e.g., the internet) through a bridging device, such as an outdoor unit that receives network connectivity through a cellular backhaul connection. If the bridging device's backhaul connection temporarily fails (e.g., due to radio link failure), a public IP address associated with the bridging device and the routing device may change upon recovery of the backhaul connection. If the routing device is not aware of the changed public IP address, subsequent communications between the routing device and the external network may fail. Disclosed are systems and methods for recovering from connectivity failure when using bridging devices to provide network connectivity.

  • Patent number: 9439029
Abstract: Systems and methods for continuous measurement of an analyte in a host are provided. The system generally includes a continuous analyte sensor configured to continuously measure a concentration of analyte in a host and a sensor electronics module physically connected to the continuous analyte sensor during sensor use, wherein the sensor electronics module is further configured to directly wirelessly communicate sensor information to one or more display devices. Establishment of communication between devices can involve using a unique identifier associated with the sensor electronics module to authenticate communication. Times tracked at the sensor electronics module and the display module can be at different resolutions, and the different resolutions can be translated to facilitate communication. In addition, the frequency of establishing communication channels between the sensor electronics module and the display devices can vary depending upon whether reference calibration information is being updated.

  • Patent number: 9436785
Abstract: Hierarchical preset and rule base configuration of a system-on-chip (SOC) includes receiving a user input selecting a first circuit block of the SOC for enablement and determining, using a processor, a first top level preset according to the user input for the first circuit block. Selected intermediate presets are determined from a plurality of hierarchically ordered presets for the first circuit block. Low level presets are automatically determined for the first circuit block according to the selected intermediate presets for the first circuit block. The low level presets are output, e.g., by loading them into the SOC.

  • Patent number: 9426828
Abstract: A base station may provide wireless service on an air interface that defines different mutually exclusive groups of random access channel (RACH) instances for different uses. In one example, the air interface may define a first group of RACH instances having groupings of preambles for designating a value of a characteristic, and define a second group of RACH instances that does not have groupings of preambles. As another example, the air interface may define a first group of RACH instances that has groupings of preambles for designating a value of a first characteristic, and define a second group of RACH instances that has groupings of preambles for designating a value of a second characteristic. The base station may then differentially handle random access requests based on whether the base station receives a preamble in a RACH instance of the first group or rather the second group.

  • Patent number: 9426826
Abstract: An orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) wireless access node to facilitate contention resolution between wireless communication devices is configured to receive connection requests on a random access channel transmitted from first and second wireless communication devices, transmit a resource allocation message comprising a same resource block to both the first and second wireless communication devices, and receive competing connection request messages transmitted from the first and second wireless communication devices on the same resource block. A contention resolution message is generated and transferred to the first and second wireless communication devices, wherein the first wireless communication device determines that a contention resolution identifier received in the contention resolution message is associated with the first wireless communication device and responsively decodes connection setup information.

  • Patent number: 9417381
Abstract: Described is an optical fiber system for delivering ultrashort pulses with minimal distortions due to nonlinearity. The system is based on delivering the optical pulses in a higher order mode (HOM) of a few-moded fiber. The fiber is designed so that the dispersion for the HOM is very large. This results in a dispersion length LD for the delivery fiber that is exceptionally small, preferably less than the non-linear length LNL. Under these conditions the system may be designed so the optical pulses experience minimum non-linear impairment, and short pulse/high peak power levels are reproduced at the output of the delivery fiber.
