  • Patent number: 6477755
Abstract: A gear burnishing system has a pre-checking station for determining an amount of burnishing processing needed by the gear to be burnished, and a gear burnishing station for performing the burnishing operation on the gear according to parameters set by the pre-checking station. In a preferred embodiment, the pre-checking station determines the condition of the gear within one of a plurality of pre-set ranges for the burnishing operation. In this manner, appropriate gear burnishing parameters can be applied depending on the actual condition of the gear.

  • Publication number: 20020129506
Abstract: A device and method for gear checking measurement of a gear employs a pair of measuring pins or balls of predetermined outer diameter which are placed in tooth spaces on diametrically opposite sides. The measuring pins or balls are held in the tooth spaces by a holding element which is fixedly connecting to and spaced from each measuring pin or ball in a direction along the gear axis so that an accurate measurement can be taken of the overall external diameter over the measuring pins. In one version, the holding element is a separate magnet or pair of magnets coupled to a respective measuring pin or ball. In another version, a holder frame holds a pair of measuring pins or balls at circumferential positions with a pre-counting spacing of gear teeth on diametrically opposite sides of the gear.

  • Publication number: 20010032530
Abstract: A torque extension for a set of hex key wrenches of standard outer diameter sizes has at least one counter bore hole on one end with an inner diameter corresponding to the outer diameter size of at least one hex key wrench of the set. The short side of the hex key wrench can be inserted in the extension element and used for turning, while the long side of the hex key wrench is used to reach a socket-head screw in a deep recess. Preferably, each extension element has two counter bore holes on opposite ends for accommodating two hex key wrench sizes.

  • Publication number: 20010031338
Abstract: A reinforcing sheet structure for reinforcing a box has a structural base sheet of high shear strength and an extended length and width dimension equal to major parts of at least two of the box length, width, and height dimensions, and a double-sided adhesive layer having an extended length dimension corresponding to a major part of one of the base sheet's length and width dimensions. In one embodiment, the reinforcing sheet structure includes a plywood sheet and an intermediate corrugated sheet bonded to the plywood sheet. The adhesive layer is a double-sided foam tape. In another embodiment, the sheet structure has at least one fold line for folding the sheet structure into two parts for reinforcing over a fold line between adjacent sides of a box. The reinforcing sheet structure may be used in multiple combinations both inside and outside the box.

  • Patent number: 5320365
Abstract: A precision chuck has a chuck body, top jaws movable radially with respect to a center axis for gripping and releasing a workpiece, master jaws slidably mounted in recesses in the chuck body for radial movement with respect to the center axis and fixedly connected to the respective top jaws, jaw actuators movable linearly parallel to the center axis having inclined cam surfaces slidingly engaged with corresponding surfaces on the master jaws, and an air-operated piston or power bar for moving the jaw actuators. Each of the jaw actuators is positioned at the middle of a respective master jaw and has a pair of spaced-apart actuator leaves engaging opposite sides of the width of the master jaw, thereby applying a balanced driving force to the master jaw without torquing. Further, an improved mounting employing a combination of threaded screw and concentric tubular pin is used to connect the top jaw to the master jaw.

  • Patent number: 5149111
Abstract: An arbor or chuck assembly for holding a workpiece or tool includes an arbor or chuck body having a linear body portion and an or contraction portion with inclined faces, a collet positioned radially between the arbor or chuck body and the workpiece or tool for reciprocal movement along a machine axis and having a linear body portion and an expansion/contraction portion with inclined faces in sliding contact with those of the arbor or chuck body, and a ball bushing provided between the linear surfaces of the collet and arbor or chuck body with a slight interference fit, in order to provide zero clearance and substantially frictionless movement therebetween. Expansion and release of the arbor or chuck is controlled by a compression spring biasing the collet in the expansion direction, and a drawbar for pushing the collet against the spring force in the release direction. The collet may have rubber seals for sealing its slots and expansion apertures from contaminants.

  • Patent number: 5003702
Abstract: A master gear turning assembly for a gear checking system of the slide type has a master gear on an arbor engaged wtih a workpiece gear and formed with off-center drive holes, a mounting cap with drive pins engaged in the off-center drive holes, and a device for turning the mounting cap to drive the master gear through the drive pins so that manual forces causing erroneous readings of the center distance between the two gears are avoided. The assembly can be an original or retrofit unit. One version has two drive pins with O-rings fitted in the holes of the master gear, a forward handle, and a transparent guard over the engagement area of the gears for operator safety. Another version has the forward mounting cap keyed to a hex bar extending through the arbor to a gear engaged with a right-angle handle drive or a motor drive unit.
