  • Patent number: 11717764
Abstract: A jumping toy and the methodology of creating a cascading arrangement of multiple jumping toys. Each jumping toy has a first segment and a second segment that are connected at a joint. The first segment and the second segment can rotate about the joint between a first configuration and a second configuration. Each jumping toy has a biasing element that biases the jumping toy toward its second configuration. Each jumping toy is stable in its first configuration and quickly transforms into its second configuration once it is slightly displaced out of its first configuration. The rapid change in configuration makes the bi-stable toy jump. A plurality of bi-stable toys can be overlapped into a cascading chain. The first toy in the cascading chain is triggered. The movement of the first toy triggers the next toy in the chain in a cascade.

  • Patent number: 11077380
Abstract: A bi-stable jumping toy that can be operated individually or with other jumping toys in a cascading chain. The toy has a first segment and a second segment that are joined in a scissor configuration. An elastic band extends between the first segment and the second segment. The elastic band biases the toy into the second configuration. However, the first segment and the second segment can be manually rotated into the stable first configuration. In the first configuration, the elastic band is stretched across the pivot axis and provides no rotational bias to either the first segment or the second segment. The toy is triggered by rotating the first segment and/or the second segment only slightly out of the first configuration. Once moved, the spring energy in the elastic band releases and the toy rapidly moves into its second configuration.

  • Patent number: 10933514
Abstract: A handheld grip assist device for use in gripping an object in a sanitary manner. The grip assist device has a clamshell construction, wherein two assemblies are joined at a hinge. The two assemblies have a rigid frame that support elastomeric panels. Movement between an open configuration and a closed configuration are controlled by engaging the grip assist device between a thumb and finger and using the muscles of the hand to open and close the grip assist device. In this manner, the grip assist device can be precisely controlled while preventing any direct contact between a gripped object and the skin of the hand. The grip assist device can be locked in its closed configuration, therein isolating surfaces on the grip assist device that could cause cross-contamination.

  • Patent number: 10112121
Abstract: A toy assembly that is configurable between a ball shape and a disc shape. When compressed into a disc shape, an air foil configuration is achieved that enables the toy assembly to achieve stable flight. A first plurality of body flaps radially extend from a first hub to create a first hemispherical subassembly. The opposing second hemispherical subassembly is created using a second hub and a second plurality of body flaps. A resilient ring is engaged by all of the body flaps. The resilient ring binds the two hemispherical subassemblies together. A temporary connector is coupled to the first hub and to the second hub. The temporary connector temporarily interconnects the first hub and the second hub for a period of time after the first hub and the second hub are pressed together.

  • Publication number: 20180185726
Abstract: A tossing game wherein a projectile is tossed toward a target. The projectile adheres to the target using magnetic attraction. The projectile is configured as a segmented ring that contains a plurality of segments. Each of the segments is interconnected to two adjacent segments at flexible joints, wherein the plurality of segments and flexible joints form a continuous ring. Magnets are affixed to at least some of the segments. The magnets enable the segmented ring to attach to a magnetic surface on the target when thrown against the target. When the projectile is thrown and impacts the target, the structure of the segmented ring bends along the various flexible joints. The bending of the projectile absorbs much of the rebounding force at impact.

  • Publication number: 20170296937
Abstract: A toy system having a folding kite projectile and a launcher that launches the kite projectile into flight. The kite projectile is launched in a folded configuration. Once in flight, the kite projectile expands into an open configuration. The kite is biased into its open configuration by an internal spring bias. The kite projectile is manually manipulated into its folded configuration prior to launching. The transformation of the kite projectile its folded configuration to its open configuration is delayed by an internal deployment control that opposes the spring bias and delays movement of kite projectile components that expand after launch. In this manner, the kite projectile cn fly in its folded condition for a period before it opens. This maximizes the distance the kite projectile travels by the force of the launcher.

  • Patent number: 9592455
Abstract: A toy head assembly with facial features that can be adjusted by touching the facial features with enough force to alter their shape and/or position. Within the toy head assembly is a head base that is surrounded, in part, by a face that is made of an elastomeric material. Facial features on the face are supported, in part, by posable elements that lay under the elastomeric material of the face. Each posable element extends from the interior head base at a different ball and socket joint. Each posable element also has a post that extends from the ball and socket joint. The post contacts the interior surface of the face, wherein movement of a post alters a point of contact between the post and the face within the contact area. Changes in the point of contact cause changes in the contours of the face. This alters the facial features.

  • Patent number: 9095781
Abstract: A pop action toy assembly having a disc with a top surface, a bottom surface, a peripheral edge. The disc is formed to have a first stable configuration and a second stable configuration, wherein the disc can be inverted between the two stable configurations. The disc assumes the first stable configuration when symmetrically bent around a first axis so that its top surface is concave. The disc assumes its second stable configuration when symmetrically bent around a second axis so that the top surface is convex. The first axis and second axis are in the same plane and are generally perpendicular to each other. The invertible pop action toy is manually set into its second stable configuration. The invertible pop action toy is then dropped against a hard surface. Upon impact with the surface, the invertible pop action toy snaps back into its first stable configuration.

  • Patent number: 8464665
Abstract: A chew toy assembly that is selectively convertible between a ball configuration and a bone configuration. The chew toy assembly has two invertible structures that are disposed at opposite ends of an elongated body. Each of the invertible structures is selectively configured between a hemispherical shape and a funnel shape by physical manipulation, wherein each invertible structure has a central hub. When the invertible structures are in their hemispherical shapes, the invertible structures form a ball around the elongated body. Alternatively, when the invertible structures are in their funnel shapes, the invertible structures diverge away from the elongated body in opposite directions, therein forming a bone configuration.

  • Publication number: 20120024062
Abstract: An accelerometer assembly and its method of operation. The accelerometer assembly is designed to be very low cost and robust. This enables the accelerometer assembly to be used in traditionally inexpensive consumer products. The accelerometer assembly uses one or more molded elastomeric structures. Each of the elastomeric structures has a flexible neck section and a head section that is supported by the flexible neck section. The head section of the elastomeric structure is placed between a light source and a photodetector. The head section partially obscures the photodetector from the light source. As the elastomeric structure experiences acceleration forces, the neck section flexes and the head section moves. This varies the degree in which the head section obscures the photodetector. The amount of light detected by the photodetector, therefore, becomes a measure of changing acceleration forces.
