  • Publication number: 20110123907
Abstract: The invention provides an electrode and an electrochemical device including the electrode. The electrode comprises a spatial confining structure such as grooves and an active compound such as glucose oxidase (GOx). The grooves spatially confines GOx, and stabilizes its enzymatic activity. Also provided is a method of stabilizing the activity of an active compound such as GOx. The invention can be widely used in development of an energy-generation device such as a fuel cell, a memory, an electrochemical reactor, a supercapacitor, a biosensor and a medical device thereof such as artificial pancreas, and a sensor such as detector of redox reactant.

  • Publication number: 20090152129
Abstract: An embodiment of the invention provides an ultrasensitive and selective system and method for detecting reactants of the chemical reaction catalyzed by an oxidoreductase, such as glucose and ethanol, at a concentration level down to zepto molar (10?21 M). In embodiments, the invention provides a cyclic voltammetry system comprising a working electrode, an oxidoreductase, and an electric field generator, wherein the oxidoreductase is immobilized on the working electrode; and the electric field generator generates an electric field that permeates at least a portion of the interface between the oxidoreductase and the working electrode. The ultrasensitivity of the system and method is believed to be caused by that the electrical field enhances quantum mechanical tunneling effect in the interface, and therefore facilitates the interfacial electron transfer between the oxidoreductase and the working electrode.

  • Publication number: 20090011295
Abstract: The invention provides the use of silicon particles as redox catalyst, an electrochemical device and method thereof. As electrocatalyst, the silicon particles catalyze a redox reaction such as oxidization of the redox reactant such as renewable fuels e.g. methanol, ethanol and glucose. The device such as a fuel cell comprises a redox reactant and a catalytic composition comprising silicon nanoparticles. The silicon particles catalyze the redox reaction on an electrode such as anode in the device. In preferred embodiments, the electrocatalysis is dramatically improved under low illuminance such as in darkness. The invention can be widely used in applications related to for example a fuel cell, a sensor, an electrochemical reactor, and a memory.

  • Patent number: 4834446
Abstract: A packing and storing device for a flexible road vehicle cover, comprises a container having an opening through which the cover can be drawn, a drainage gutter in the lower end of the container leading to a drain hole, a rotatable carrier for the cover mounted in the container and a flexible hose connected to the drain hole. Two freely rotatable rollers are provided along opposite edges of the opening. The device is placed in a luggage compartment of a vehicle and the vehicle cover can be drawn into the container, guided by the rollers, by rotating the carrier. Water collecting in the drainage gutter is conveyed to the outside of the vehicle through the hose.

  • Patent number: 4681149
Abstract: A window-blind for use in vehicles which includes a suction-cup for removably attaching a window-blind to a window of the vehicle and a plurality of elongated slats, each of the slats having one end pivotally connected to the suction-cup. The plurality of slats are stacked one on top of another when the window-blind is in a closed position, and are opened into a fan-shaped blind when the window-blind is in an open position. A connecting tape connects adjacent slats to each other and retains the window-blind in the fan-shape when the window-blind is in an open position. Each slat includes six apertures. The apertures are spaced approximately equi-distant from one another across the width of each slat.
