  • Patent number: 8189343
Abstract: Embodiments are generally direct to a method and apparatus to provide power to a backplane. In one embodiment, a method is implemented in a backplane to receive power through an upper zone of the backplane. The power is provided by a rear transition power entry module (RT-PEM) operatively coupled to an interface in the upper zone. The power provided by the RT-PEM is routed to interfaces in a lower zone of the backplane. Each lower zone interface distributes at least a portion of the power to a component operatively coupled to the backplane.

  • Patent number: 8191128
Abstract: To allow a user to access a public data network from a region of service operated by a visited access provider, the visited provider is supplied with an identity of a credit provider. The user is redirected to the credit provider, resulting in establishment of a temporary connection with the credit provider. During this temporary connection, the user supplies original user credentials and, in return, receives substitute user credentials if the original user credentials are valid. The substitute user credentials are supplied to the visited provider, which proceeds to have the user authenticated by the credit provider on the basis of the substitute user credentials. In this way, the visited provider authenticates the user with the credit provider before allowing the user to access the public data network, but a secure exchange of the original user credentials between the user and the credit provider prevents unauthorized access to this information by the visited provider.

The tip assembly also includes an IR sensor mechanically seated in the tip section and thermally coupled to the heat sink. The tip assembly also includes an electrical connector configured to provide an electrical connection to the tip assembly. A fluid having a fluid temperature is introduced into the fluid path via the hydraulic port. The fluid causes the heat sink and the IR sensor to substantially reach one or more pre-determined temperatures by thermal conduction during calibration of the tip assembly. Another tip assembly having an internal heat source is described. Another tip assembly having an internal heat pump is described. A method to calibrate a tip assembly is also described.

  • Patent number: 8186455
Abstract: A system and method for building and handling oilfield tubular stands while drilling operations are simultaneously and independently occurring with one drilling deck, one derrick, and one rotary system. An offline guided path horizontal to vertical arm lifts and moves in the same plane tubulars stored horizontally on the catwalk and positions the tubulars vertically directly into a preparation hole for assembling and disassembling tubular stands while online drilling operations are simultaneously being conducted. A stand arm lifts and lowers the tubulars into and out of the adjustable preparation hole, and transports the tubulars for storage to an auxiliary tubular racking station in the upper part of the derrick. A bridge racker crane moves tubular stands from the auxiliary tubular racking station to the top drive or another tubular racking station.

  • Patent number: 8188419
Abstract: An optical navigation device determines relative movement between the optical navigation device and a navigation surface. The optical navigation device includes a light source, an image sensor, and an eccentric field imaging lens. The light source illuminates a navigation surface. The image sensor generates a navigation image of light scattered off of the navigation surface. The eccentric field imaging lens is disposed between the navigation surface and the image sensor. The eccentric field imaging lens includes multiple lens surfaces which are tilted at different oblique angles relative to the navigation surface to direct the light scattered off of the navigation surface toward the image sensor.

  • Patent number: 8190121
Abstract: The collect cellular call identifies the cellular telephone carrier and called party cell phone. After determining whether the carrier and phone accept message service charges (SMS), a voice response module seeks positive authorization from the called party with the telephone. If positive, the system facilitates a connection between the calling party and the called party and initiates a predetermined billing charge assigned to the cellular telephone number. If the carrier or the cell phone is not enabled or if no authorization is obtained from the called party, the system facilitates a denial of completion signal. A timer monitors the length a the collect cellular call. Databases are accessed to locate the carrier and called cell phone number approved list of numbers and deny-service list of numbers.

  • Publication number: 20120125603
Abstract: Methods for enhanced oil recovery from a subterranean formation including adding a first salt to a first aqueous stream to form a first injection stream with an increased concentration of a first ion. A second salt is added to a second aqueous stream to form a second injection stream with an increased concentration of a second ion. The second injection stream is of different composition than the first injection stream and the first injection stream and the second injection stream have substantially the same interfacial tension with a hydrocarbon and substantially the same kinematic viscosity. The first injection stream is injected into the formation at a first time and the second injection stream is injected into the formation at a second time. The first injection stream and second injection stream contact at least some overlapping portion of the formation. Oil is recovered from the overlapping portion of the formation.

  • Patent number: RE43437
Abstract: Disk images, and the like, are used to emulate storage volumes for the distribution of computer software. An image of a data storage volume, such as a hard disk drive, is stored in a file having a format that enables it to exhibit a behavior which is the same as the storage volume itself. The image files are accessed by means of an associated driver which can support a variety of different file system protocols, thereby permitting the files themselves to be independent of the format requirements of particular file systems. The data in the image file can be compressed in a manner such that a storage volume being emulated appears to be of a specified size, while actually requiring less space to store its contents. With these properties, the image files can be mounted in the manner of a hardware storage device, and large files can be readily transmitted and downloaded in an electronic format.
