  • Patent number: 10848996
Abstract: A device wirelessly communicating over a wireless network may adjust a threshold from a network-configured value to a new value in response to a performance characteristic of an application executing on the device not meeting a specified metric, for example in response to the application experiencing a latency greater than a specified latency value. The threshold may be associated with a measurement event configured by the wireless network, and the device may use the new value for the threshold when performing measurements on wireless channel conditions of the wireless network. When adjusting the threshold, the device may adjust the threshold once per application session of the application, and/or once per current radio resource control (RRC) connection before the wireless network releases the current RRC connection. Furthermore, the device may adjust the threshold only if the network-configured value associated with the measurement event is greater than a specified threshold value.

  • Patent number: 10834602
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) has a cellular connection established by a cellular chip, the cellular connection including a secondary component carrier (SCC) of carrier aggregation (CA) in the unlicensed spectrum. The UE receives, by a WiFi chip of the UE, a message from the cellular chip indicating a first frequency band corresponding to the SCC, determines whether a hotspot service is enabled utilizing at least a portion of the first frequency band that the cellular chip has indicated corresponds to the SCC and when the hotspot service is enabled, switches, by the WiFi chip, the hotspot service from the first frequency band to a second frequency band.

  • Patent number: 10798739
Abstract: A method is disclosed where a user equipment (“UE”) is operating in a carrier aggregation mode and connected to a first cell operating on a licensed band and a second cell operating on an unlicensed band. The method may include the UE performing a carrier sensing operation on the unlicensed band, determining, from the carrier sensing operation, a duration that the unlicensed band will be occupied, refraining from transmitting data to the second cell on the unlicensed band for the duration that the unlicensed band will be occupied and setting a transmitter in communication with the second cell to a low power mode for the duration that the unlicensed band will be occupied.

  • Publication number: 20200296593
Abstract: This disclosure relates to providing a reservation signal for cellular communication in unlicensed spectrum. A cellular base station may perform a listen-before-talk procedure on an unlicensed frequency channel. The cellular base station may transmit a reservation signal on the unlicensed frequency channel after successfully performing the listen-before-talk procedure. The cellular base station may perform carrier sensing on the unlicensed frequency channel at least once during the duration of the reservation signal. The cellular base station may perform cellular communication on the unlicensed frequency channel after ceasing transmitting the reservation signal.

  • Publication number: 20200275304
Abstract: Embodiments are presented herein of apparatuses, systems, and methods for a user equipment (UE) device to adaptively provide enhanced the quality of service (QoS) for an application. The UE may request a dedicated bearer or flow for communications conducted over a network between a UE application and a server associated with the application. The UE may use various information, including a QoS profile associated with the application, to determine requested QoS parameters and/or determine whether to provide the enhanced QoS functionality, e.g., whether to request the dedicated bearer/flow from the network. These techniques may tend to provide more appropriate QoS to the application, which may improve user experience.

  • Patent number: 10736087
Abstract: A wireless communication system is presented for future scheduling of secondary component carrier(s) (SCC) during carrier aggregation in LTE wireless communications. A primary component carrier in a first subframe can be used to indicate at what future subframe SCC data may exist for the mobile device (e.g., UE, etc.). The UE can then leave off all SCC receive circuitry until the future subframe, when it can turn on all needed SCC receive circuitry to receive the SCC data. After receiving the SCC data, the UE can again power off the SCC receive circuitry.

  • Publication number: 20200213896
Abstract: Embodiments are presented herein of apparatuses, systems, and methods for a user equipment (UE) device to adaptively enhance the quality of service (QoS) configuration of a bearer of communications conducted over a cellular network between a UE application and a server. The UE may use various information, including a QoS profile associated with the application, to determine requested QoS parameters and/or whether the UE is permitted to request or access enhanced QoS functionality. The UE may then send a request to the cellular network indicating the requested QoS parameters, and the network may adjust the QoS configuration of the bearer in response. The UE and the network may perform routine QoS measurements and exchange information in order to adaptively maintain and optimize the QoS configuration. These techniques may tend to provide more appropriate QoS to the application, which may improve user experience.

  • Patent number: 10674445
Abstract: A user equipment device (UE) may transmit, in a packet to a base station, information associated with resource configuration/resource requirement corresponding to wireless uplink communications of the wireless communication device. The base station may assign resources to the UE based on the received information. The UE may receive an uplink grant from the base station, with the uplink grant specifying resources for use by the wireless communication device during the uplink communications based on the information previously transmitted to the base station by the wireless communication device. The UE may send the packet at the time a voice call with the UE is initiated, and/or the UE may transmit the information during voice calls in response the UE changing one or more resource configuration parameters during the voice call. The UE may use Robust Header Compression packets of various types to transmit the resource configuration information.

  • Publication number: 20200145924
Abstract: A device may obtain, through wireless signaling from a network, a time-domain wireless-resource allocation (TWRA) pattern allocated to the device by the network and corresponding to a future time interval (TTI) for which the device has not yet decoded corresponding control information. This enables the device to conduct wireless communications during the TTI using resources allocated according to the obtained TWRA pattern, without first having to decode control information to identify the TWRA pattern. The device may obtain the TWRA pattern by obtaining an indication from the network that the TWRA pattern remains associated with future wireless communications of the device until indicated otherwise by the network, and/or by transmitting to the network an indication of preferred parameters associated with the future wireless communications and the TWRA pattern, and/or by transmitting to the network a request to have the network change from a different TWRA pattern to the TWRA pattern.

  • Patent number: 10548179
Abstract: An ability to limit and manage the number of multiple radio access bearer (mRAB) initiations, which are transitions from a Circuit Switched (CS) voice session, is provided. Moreover, the system, within a Radio Access Network (RAN), can identify vulnerable radio conditions for a user equipment (UE) on an uplink (UL) and/or a downlink (DL), and then subsequently determines whether a Packet Switched (PS) data session is allowed to pass through to the UE, during a CS voice call. In addition, the system can temporarily block a network-initiated data request to the existing CS voice call, if the voice call is likely to be dropped on initiating an mRAB. As the vulnerable radio conditions improve, the system can deliver the previously blocked data request to the UE.

  • Publication number: 20200007199
Abstract: Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer program product embodiments for indicating a preference to receive a single-user multiple input multiple output (SU-MIMO) or multi-user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) transmission from an access point (AP). Embodiments include generating a standard action frame that contains an action field that species a preference to receive a SU-MIMO or MU-MIMO transmission from the AP. A station (STA) can transmit the generated action frame to the AP. The STA can receive an acknowledgement frame from the AP that indicates the AP is configured to use the requested transmission method. The STA can then receive data from the AP using the requested transmission method.

  • Patent number: 10327196
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for intelligent scheduling in hybrid networks based on client identity. For example, in one embodiment, the hybrid networks are cellular networks (e.g., LTE and CDMA 1X), and a cellular device uses a single-radio solution to support circuit-switched calls on a CDMA 1X network and packet-switched calls on LTE. Periodically, the cellular device tunes away from LTE and monitors CDMA 1X activity, and vice versa. The LTE network can infer the cellular device's tune away schedule, based on the device's identity, and the paging schedule algorithm of the CDMA 1X network.
