  • Publication number: 20190150050
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for wireless communication are provided. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may obtain a gain value based on a difference between an reference signal receive power (RSRP) value of a first antenna and an RSRP value of a second antenna, where the first antenna may be located on an exterior of the UE and the second antenna may be located within an interior of the UE. Further, in some aspects, the UE may obtain an antenna gain value based at least on a random access channel (RACH) power value and a reference signal receive quality (RSRQ) offset value. Additionally, in some aspects, the UE may obtain the antenna gain value based on one of a matching entry in a memory log or a minimum of a maximum antenna gain value or an aggregation of a RACH gain value and an RSRQ offset value.

  • Publication number: 20190150039
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for call continuity following radio link failure (RLF) through re-establishment of a voice call using a same or different radio access technology (RAT) before the call is dropped. Upon detection of RLF on a connection supporting a voice call, a UE may initiate a drop call timer and scan for available connections. The voice call may be attempted to be re-established if a connection is available on using a RAT of an existing connection. The voice call in such cases may continue without the call being dropped. Upon expiration of the drop call timer, the UE may attempt to establish a connection using a RAT identified during the duration of the drop call timer.

  • Patent number: 10292133
Abstract: A person may utilize multiple connected devices, such as smart watches, user equipments (UEs), smartphones, tablet computers, and/or the like, which may each be assigned unique phone numbers. Operators may assign a common phone number to the multiple connected devices; however, the phone number is not used in the access stratum path of a radio access technology resulting in multiple paging procedures being performed for the multiple connected devices. In implementations, described herein, a first UE, such as a smartphone, may obtain paging information associated with decoding paging messages for a second UE, such as a smart watch. The first UE may use the paging information to decode a paging message of a combined paging cycle established for the first UE and the second UE, thereby obviating a need for multiple paging cycles for the first UE and the second UE.

  • Patent number: 10292064
Abstract: Enhanced techniques may be used for identifying and reporting collision-based scenarios. In one example, a wireless modem measures a number of signals received from a number of devices that are located on the same chip as the wireless modem when a physical link between the wireless modem and an accelerometer is broken, the accelerometer is inoperable, or a combination thereof. In the event of a collision event, the wireless modem may use the measured signals to determine that the collision event has occurred and may transmit an indication of the collision event. For instance, the wireless modem may use signals from an audio sensor, a motion sensor, a global navigation satellite system (GNSS), or the like.

  • Publication number: 20190104474
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for enhanced power savings in wireless devices through mobile initiated dormancy procedure. A user equipment (UE) may establish radio resource control (RRC) connectivity with a base station of the network, and transmit and receive one or more distinct signaling messages for dormancy state initialization and suspension at the UE. Dormancy state implementation at the UE may conserve available power resources at the UE during periods of inactive data transaction. The one or more signaling messages may contain a single or multi-bit indication for the receiving device, and may be transmitted via direct signaling on upper layer protocols of the data network or mapped to allocated resources of a data transmission. The signaling messages may sustain synchronization between the interpreted functional mode of the UE at the base station and the implemented mode at the UE.

  • Publication number: 20190069210
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described for inter-RAT mobility from a first radio access technology (RAT) to a second RAT, including cases in which different RATs correspond to different generations of networks. Approaches described herein include providing a preemptive indication of inter-RAT mobility for one or more geographic areas such to a user equipment (UE). The UE can thus use a mobility procedure to transition from the first RAT to the second RAT that is supported in the UE's location without first attempting an unsupported mobility procedure, reducing transition latency.

  • Patent number: 10219312
Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. A base station may indicate to a UE, in a pre-wakeup period, whether the base station will transmit a grant to the UE. The pre-wakeup period may occur at the beginning of a DRX cycle. The base station may transmit an indication of a grant to the UE, and the base station may indicate a time period during which the UE may wake up to receive the grant. The indication may include scheduling information for the grant. The UE may select a DRX mode based on a configuration received from the base station, a traffic pattern, or scheduling history. The UE may monitor for the grant, and receive the grant. In other examples, the UE or the base station may identify that the grant was not received, and may reset a DRX cycle based on the identification.

  • Patent number: 10218475
Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for optimizing real time services (e.g., such as a voice over Long Term Evolution (LTE) (VoLTE)) for devices with limited communications resources, such as machine type communication (MTC) devices and enhanced MTC (eMTC) devices. In one aspect, a UE determines a first configuration of subframes within at least one radio frame available for the UE and other UEs to use for bundled communications with a BS. The UE receives an indication of one or more subframes within the at least one radio frame that are unavailable for bundled uplink transmissions, and determines a second configuration of subframes to use for bundled communications based on the indication. The UE overrides the first configuration of subframes with the second configuration of subframes, and communicates with the BS using the second configuration of subframes. Numerous other aspects are provided.
