  • Patent number: 7333456
Abstract: A method and system for transmitting training information in a block transmission system is provided. The method includes transmitting a first information bearing unit by at least one transmit antenna. The method further includes transmitting a second information bearing unit by the at least one transmit antenna. The second information bearing unit is the first information bearing unit shifted by a frequency offset. As a result, the combination of the first information bearing unit and the second information bearing unit is substantially periodic. Further, the combination of the first information bearing unit and the second information bearing unit is one of preamble, midamble, or postamble.

  • Publication number: 20070248155
Abstract: Embodiments are directed to a wireless receiver system that utilizes a special structure of pilot symbols used for synchronization and channel estimation in transmission packets to measure noise power at the receiver. The periodicity of the pilot signal sequences is used to extract the noise power from the received signal. Such extraction is achieved by subtracting the received signals from two pilot slots which are separated by the known periodicity of the training sequence. This method relies on the fact that desired signal and system interference signals will cancel out after the subtraction process. Measuring the power of the residual signal after subtraction represents the estimate of the noise power. Several consecutive such residual signals can be first summed up before measuring the power to improve the estimate of the noise power at the receiver.

  • Publication number: 20070217441
Abstract: A method and system for estimating Co-Channel Interference (CCI) at each pilot sub-carrier of each symbol in a frame of a block transmission system is provided. The method includes determining the CCI at each pilot sub-carrier of a predetermined number of symbols (L). The predetermined number of symbols is equal to the periodicity of the pilot pattern of the frame. The method includes using the CCI at each pilot sub-carrier of the predetermined number of symbols to estimate the CCI at each pilot sub-carrier of remaining symbols in the frame.

  • Publication number: 20070211806
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for improving a channel estimate in a signal communication system. The systems and methods improve the channel estimation quality and/or the delay spread of the channels that can be estimated. The combining of symbols operates to increase the density of pilots that are processed to provide the channel estimate.

  • Publication number: 20060029017
Abstract: A method and system for transmitting training information in a block transmission system such as Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM), Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) systems, is provided. The method includes transmitting an information bearing unit, which may be a preamble, midamble or postamble, to enable the receiver to synchronize, and obtain channel estimates. It is suitable for both single and multiple antenna wireless systems.
