  • Publication number: 20180098248
Abstract: Disclosed methods include a resource manager in a multiple node network receiving a demand for additional bandwidth, from a terminal, and the resource manager having updated information on the state of the mobile node network and, using that the state information, performing test allocation of the requested bandwidth to the requesting terminal. Disclosed methods include determining whether previous commitments of service can be met with the test allocation in place. Associated with a positive result, an allocation is sent to the terminal.

  • Patent number: 9853716
Abstract: Multibeam coverage for a high altitude platform (“HAP”) is disclosed. An example method to provision a HAP includes determining an altitude range at which the HAP will operate and determining a minimum elevation angle from the ground to the HAP. The method also includes determining a coverage area of the HAP based on the altitude range and the minimum elevation angle and partitioning the coverage area into substantially equal-sized cells. The method further includes assigning an antenna to each of the cells and determining a beamwidth and an elevation angle for each antenna to provide communication coverage to the corresponding cell. The method moreover includes determining an aperture for each of the antennas based on the beamwidth and the elevation angle to provide the substantially equal-sized cells.

  • Publication number: 20170085411
Abstract: Modulation and coding for a high altitude platform is disclosed. An example apparatus includes a gateway antenna configured to communicate with a ground-based gateway station and user antennas configured to provide communication coverage among a plurality of terminals within a specified area on the ground or in the air. Each user antenna is configured to communicate with a cell within the specified area. The example apparatus also includes a processor configured to demodulate and decode a first modulation scheme and a first coding scheme used for a feeder link provided by the gateway antenna, and apply at least a second modulation scheme and a second coding scheme for user links provided in spot beams by the user antennas. The first modulation scheme and the first coding scheme are configured to be relatively more spectrally efficient compared to the second modulation scheme and the second coding scheme for the user links.

  • Publication number: 20160211908
Abstract: A high altitude platform with multibeam coverage for aero-based terminals is disclosed. An example apparatus includes a plurality of user link antennas each configured to provide communication coverage among a plurality of aero-based terminals within a specified volume (or area) of the sky, each antenna being configured to communicate with a specified cell within the specified volume. The apparatus also includes a gateway link antenna configured to provide communication coverage to a ground-based gateway terminal. The user link antennas are configured to have differently sized apertures to maintain a similar spectral density among the cells within the specified coverage area. Such a configuration of user link antennas provides consistent Quality of Service and bandwidth for aero-based terminals (such as private and commercial aircraft) operating within the specified coverage area.

  • Publication number: 20140312134
Abstract: The present system comprises, a MFC controller, emitter-lines that utilize non-drain technology on the emission devices and control valves for individual drip lines or groups of drip lines within an irrigation zone, along with a means to actuate the control valves by the controller. The MCF system utilizes a number of valves in an irrigation system to control either individual emitter-lines or groups of emitter-lines but does not control individual emitters. The present system has a programmable controller that has a number of stations, each of which controls a group of valves. Each station can be programmed for start time and duration that the station is actuated. Each station can be programmed independently from all the others allowing overlap or complimentary irrigation. The total input flow rate to the system remains nearly constant during a daily irrigation while the valve groups are cycling within the system.

  • Publication number: 20120235825
Abstract: Detecting a discontinuity or impedance irregularity in an active line, a neutral return line and/or an earth return path of a power distribution network is disclosed. In one aspect, the apparatus is configured to measure a change in voltage and/or current associated with a deliberate switching of a known impedance and/or a naturally occurring random switching of an impedance in the electrical network wherein the change in voltage and/or current flow results from a discontinuity or impedance irregularity in the active line, neutral line and/or earth return path. The apparatus includes an algorithm for identifying discontinuity or impedance irregularity in the presence of allowable variation in voltage and/or current that may mimic or hide a discontinuity or impedance irregularity in the active line, neutral return line and/or earth return path including a reverse current flow through the earth return path.

  • Patent number: 8215805
Abstract: A recessed light fixture has vertical tilt and horizontal rotation adjustments recessed radially outwardly from a trim aperture defining ring for a cleaner aspect of the lamp aperture. A lamp holder is reachable through the trim aperture for manually returning the lamp holder from a tilted position to a vertical position and is releasable downward from the fixture for relamping in response to manual pulling force. A mechanical memory returns the lamp holder to the initial tilted position upon reinsertion of the lamp holder and release of the manual pulling force. The lamp fixture can be miniaturized to a size of about 2.5 inches in diameter and sized to fit in a ceiling cutout of about 3.5 inches in diameter.

  • Patent number: 7956483
Abstract: The invention is directed at an air flow apparatus for use with an electric vehicle. The air flow apparatus operates as complementary energy sources for the production of electricity to maintain battery capacity for the propulsion of an electrically powered vehicle. This is preferably achieved by combining induced air flow and the burning of a fossil fuel, such as propane, to effect generator output. In another embodiment, the use of propane is reduced as the vehicle proceeds at specific speeds.

  • Publication number: 20100104998
Abstract: A removable splint for treating certain orofacial disorders has a chewing surface and can be worn while the patient is eating. The splint fits over some or all of the maxillary or mandibular teeth. The chewing surface is preferably shaped like the occlusal surfaces of the natural teeth of the patient. The device may be made to look like natural teeth and gums. Preferably, the natural look is achieved by coloring the material of the splint during or after casting and placing denture teeth in the part of the splint that shows when the patient smiles.
