  • Patent number: 6609828
Abstract: A method of making reclosable packaging utilizes a longitudinally extending web of film material having cutouts therein. A length of zipper strip substantially half the width of the web and having an attached slider is applied transversely across the web of film material with the slider positioned in the cut out. The web is folded longitudinally with the zipper attached to the web and the slider positioned in the cut out. The edges of the web are brought together longitudinally and seamed to form a tube. The opposite ends of the tube are sealed to form the package. The resultant bag has the slider seated in the cut-out where it is readily visible to a consumer.

  • Publication number: 20020194816
Abstract: A horizontal form, fill and seal machine has a hollow forming box into which a continuous film is longitudinally fed from a packaging film supply. The forming box has a top, sides and open inlet and outlet ends. A pair of guide bars extend from the outlet end of the forming box adjacent the forming box sides and extending away from the inlet end. The forming box transforms the flat packaging film into a film envelope that extends about the guide bars and has a product-receiving surface that rests on a conveyor between the guide bars. Sealing bars are provided to join the longitudinal edges of the packaging film together and to form seals across the envelope at package length intervals after each deposit of product onto the product-receiving surface. A zipper attaching mechanism applies zipper to the film upstream of the forming box.

  • Publication number: 20020157351
Abstract: A method is disclosed for forming reclosable packages at a form, fill and seal (FFS) apparatus by advancing a film of package making material longitudinally to form a tube while guiding opposite longitudinal edges of the film into a fin. A zipper having interlocking members and an attached flange is fed into the fin by capturing external surfaces of the interlocking members within a first guide member positioned adjacent to said fin and feeding the flanges along opposite sides of a second guide member positioned within said fin. An apparatus for performing the method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5182065
Abstract: A method for forming structural injection molded parts includes the steps of positioning a closed-loop cutting blade in surrounding relation to one of a male and female mold which together define a mold cavity corresponding to the shape of a part to be molded, positioning reinforcing material over the female mold, moving the male mold into the female mold to position the reinforcing material in the mold cavity, thereafter moving the cutting blade independently of the mold which it surrounds to trim the reinforcing material, and injecting resin into the mold cavity to produce a structural injection molded part. The cutting blade and the mold which it surrounds are part of and movable with a common die set assembly having a lost motion drive connection between the mold and the cutting blade, such that the trimming step is accomplished by lost motion movement between the mold and the cutting blade after the male and female molds have been mated.
