  • Patent number: 9258635
Abstract: A cord-based controller for an auxiliary device, such as a headset, is provided for use with a portable electronic device. A pressure-sensitive, and preferably bendable, material such as a piezoelectric pressure sensor is placed within or on an or cord of a headphone lead, such as by wrapping it within the outer shielding of the cord. A self-powered controlling sensor is arranged to control the electronic device using a generated control signal. The controlling sensor comprises a sensor material. The control signal is generated by deformation of the sensor material independent of power supplied to the headset and independent of power supplied to the portable electronic device. This is achieved without requiring a separate housing for the controller, which typically protrudes from the cord. A plurality of control sensor elements can be provided, each producing a different control signal voltage transmitted along a single control signal electrical.

  • Patent number: 8880761
Abstract: An efficient low latency buffer, and method of operation, is described. The efficient low latency buffer may be used as a bi-directional memory buffer in an audio playback device to buffer both output and input data. An application processor coupled to the bi-directional memory buffer is responsive to an indication to write data to the bi-directional memory buffer reads a defined size of input data from the bi-directional memory buffer. The input data read from the bi-directional memory buffer is replaced with output data of the defined size. In response to a mode-change signal, the defined size of data is changed that is read and written from and to the bi-directional memory buffer. The buffer may allow the application processor to enter a low-powered sleep mode more frequently.

  • Patent number: 8073995
Abstract: An efficient low latency buffer, and method of operation, is described. The efficient low latency buffer may be used as a bi-directional buffer in an audio playback device to buffer both output and input data. The audio buffer includes two modes of operation. The first mode replaces large segments of data at a first rate, and the second mode replaces smaller segments of data at a second rate, higher than the first rate. The first mode may make efficient use of the buffer for the output, data while the second mode may provide low latency for the buffering of the input data.

  • Publication number: 20110110514
Abstract: A method and a headset for controlling a mobile communication device outputting an audio is described. A multi-conductor line connects a multi-pole connector to a speaker of the headset. The multi-conductor line carries the audio from the mobile communication device to the speaker. A multi-button remote control establishes a wireless control channel over a wireless connection between the multi-button remote control and the mobile communication device. The wireless control channel is used for sending a command from the multi-button remote control, the command controlling the outputting of the audio.

  • Patent number: 7734247
Abstract: A configurable serial interface for a mobile communications device is provided to access audio information (e.g., audio files) stored on a removable memory device. In normal operation, the mobile communications device accesses audio information stored on the removable memory source through a conventional serial interface located in the digital application processor and/or directly interfaced with the main processing device. The interface is configurable to change to a second interface (e.g., Serial Low-power Interconnect for Media or SLIMbus (SLIMbus)) after receiving a command to change the interface. The second interface generally utilizes significantly less power than the first interface because the main processing device is not utilized to convert the digital audio files stored on the removable memory device. Control of the first and/or second interface may be maintained by a control circuit used for controlling the main processing device.

  • Patent number: 7729673
Abstract: A method and apparatus provide multichannel signal limiting to prevent any channel signal within a multichannel signal from exceeding defined limits, while still preserving the gain and/or amplitude relationships among the individual channel signals. A limiter is configured to calculate a limiting factor as the value needed to prevent a limit violation on the worst-case one of the channel signals, and then commonly apply that limiting factor to the gain control of all channel signals. Thus, the limiter may generate an actual gain value for each channel signal as the product of that channel signal's desired gain value and the current value of the limiting factor. Notably, in multichannel audio signal applications, coordinating gain control across the individual audio channels by use of the commonly applied limiting factor prevents undesirable spatial shifting of the soundstage, e.g., shifting of the stereo image.

  • Patent number: 7680459
Abstract: An RF transmission system comprises an RF transmitter receiving a base band media signal and generating a broadcast signal on a broadcast frequency. The broadcast frequency may be one of a plurality of transmission frequencies within a frequency band. A radio data control module periodically performs an interference detection measurement to determine whether an interfering signal from a remote transmitter exists at the broadcast frequency. An open frequency is selected if an interfering signal from a remote transmitter exists at the broadcast frequency. The open frequency may be one of the plurality of transmission frequencies wherein RF interference is within predetermined acceptance criteria. The RF transmission system transmits an identification of the open frequency on the broadcast frequency and, following such transmission, switches the broadcast frequency to such open frequency.

  • Patent number: 7499554
Abstract: An electronic device can be operated to detect noise, such as wind noise. A microphone signal is generated by a microphone. Autocorrelation coefficients are determined based on the microphone signal. Gradient values are determined from the autocorrelation coefficients. The presence of a noise component in the microphone signal is determined based on the gradient values.
