  • Patent number: 6611614
Abstract: Sensor elements are arranged in a hexagonal grid. A processor element in the form of a primitive automaton is assigned to each of the sensor elements in the grid. The processor elements are set up to perform algorithms which enable lines of a fingerprint to be simplified such that characteristic minutiae of the fingerprint (endings and branchings of the lines) can be extracted. The processor elements are embodied using CMOS/Neuron MOS threshold value logic or using CMOS/NMOS pass transistor logic. The image grid can be read out via read-out circuits as a matrix.

  • Patent number: 6577620
Abstract: A circuit emulation method with garbage removal is used to convert a circuit-switched network for packet-switched transmissions while reusing as much of the existing circuit-switched infrastructure as possible. The garbage removal function removes unnecessary information from a packet before it can be transported, which increases the transport efficiency and decreases the transport delay.

  • Publication number: 20030035571
Abstract: A method for analyzing fingerprint images includes picking up a sequence of images at very short time intervals, while a finger is being placed onto an electronic fingerprint sensor. A criterion for recognizing a live finger is extracted from variations in the images. The images are defined as a pixel raster having different gray values, with the aid of which the pixels are assigned binary values of zero or one. Significant changes in the values are detected and compared, with the aid of distinctive numbers or the like, to known typical changes that occur regularly in a particular image class.

  • Publication number: 20010052072
Abstract: Method and apparatus for synchronizing the transmitting side and the receiving side in an IP network that uses a stream encryption algorithm are disclosed. A sequence number is introduced into the payload of each packet at the transmitting side and transmitted with the packets. Upon receipt at the receiving side, the sequence number is extracted from the payload and used to synchronize the receiving side to the transmitting side. An error detection mechanism is used to detect when the synchronization is lost and a recovery procedure is initiated. The length of the sequence number is made sufficiently long to cope with any jitter variations in the IP network. This sequence number length is dynamically adjustable based on the amount of jitter detected in the network.

  • Publication number: 20010026635
Abstract: The sensor is provided for the capacitive acquisition of images, in particular fingerprint images. The capacitors assigned to each pixel are supplemented by reference electrodes which are capacitively coupled to one another with coupling capacitances. Parallel acquisition of the image with the measuring electrodes and the additional reference electrodes yields, on the one hand, an image subdivided in accordance with the grid, and, on the other hand, local averaging resulting from the capacitive coupling is performed, which is used as a local reference value.

  • Patent number: 6160729
Abstract: An associative memory contains cells that are formed of a series circuit of an ordinary PMOS transistor with a PMOS transistor with a floating gate. The ordinary PMOS transistor receives of an input vector and the gate of the second PMOS transistor is connected to a learning input. For the associative access, a second vector can be applied to the drain terminal of the second PMOS transistor and, upon readout, the current flow through the respective series circuit is evaluated column-by-column by current evaluator circuits.

  • Patent number: 6055497
Abstract: A system and method are provided for improving speech quality for signals divided into a frame structure. Speech information in a signal is detected, and a lost or corrupted transmitted frame is detected. The lost or corrupted frame is replaced by a suitable frame if a number of frames represented e.g., by a counter value, exceeds a predetermined value. The counter value may be changed, depending on whether the system is in a comfort noise generation state or in a muting period. The frame may be replaced by a frame representing mainly background noise, generated at the transmitting end during speech pauses or at the receiving end, or such a frame and a correctly received frame. The predetermined value may be the length of a muting period or may be the number of lost or corrupted frames preceding a speech frame. A first of the correctly received speech frames that follows a number of lost or corrupted frames may also be replaced. The output frames gradually approach pure speech frames.

  • Patent number: 5995501
Abstract: A method for protecting the transmission of network independent clocking and status information over an air interface between a mobile station and base transceiver station is disclosed. The method involves defining a parallel logical channel between the mobile station and base transceiver station to carry network independent clocking and status information. The network independent clocking and status information are removed from the data stream of the traffic channel and transmitted on the parallel channel over the air interface. Alternatively, a buffer may be used in conjunction with or singly to process the data stream of the traffic channel to delete or insert bits or characters to minimize or eliminate the need for network independent clocking information.

  • Patent number: 5892802
Abstract: A synchronization frame is first formatted and transmitted in accordance with the Global System for Mobile (GSM) 08.60 specification. After an initial synchronization procedure is accomplished between a transcoder/rate adaptor unit (TRAU) and a particular base transceiver station (BTS) serving a mobile station, a modified GSM 08.60 frame is thereafter used to transport greater user data payload across the established communications link. The modified frame replaces the synchronization bits included in the GSM 08.60 formatted data frame with user data to increase data payload from the conventional 13.5 Kbit/s to a more desirable 14.4 Kbit/s without altering the standardized 16 Kbit/s transmission rate supported by the IWF and the BTS.
