  • Patent number: 10202915
Abstract: A method and a computer program for recognizing and differentiating a flow rate error and a dynamic error of an exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR) of an internal combustion engine. Measured and modeled EGR mass flow signals are each subjected to bandpass filtering using time constants optimized for determining flow rate errors and bandpass filtering using time constants optimized for determining dynamic errors. The energy is determined for each of the filtered signals and an energy quotient is computed between the energies of the signals filtered for dynamic errors and the signals filtered for flow rate errors. A dynamic error and a flow rate error of the exhaust gas recirculation may be recognized and differentiated from one another on the basis of the energy quotients.

  • Patent number: 9501612
Abstract: A method for monitoring at least one part of an internal combustion engine based on a variable whose values characterize the operation of the part of the internal combustion engine during different states of the internal combustion engine, including: determining an actual pattern with the actual values of the variable during different states of the internal combustion engine which describe the actual operation of the internal combustion engine; providing a reference pattern for a known operation of the internal combustion engine, the reference pattern including reference values of the variable for different states of the internal combustion engine; and comparing the actual pattern to the reference pattern to determine a similarity between the actual operation and the known operation.

  • Patent number: 8887559
Abstract: A method for checking the functioning of a ventilation apparatus for ventilating a crankcase connected via the ventilation apparatus to an air supply system of the internal combustion engine includes: determining a pressure difference between an ambient pressure and a crankcase pressure in the crankcase; identifying a fault in the ventilating apparatus as a function of the pressure difference if an enabling condition is met; the enabling condition being met if an air mass flow in the air supply system, filtered by a low-pass filter, exceeds a first threshold value in terms of absolute value.

  • Publication number: 20130060445
Abstract: A device for error monitoring in an internal combustion engine system is provided. The internal combustion engine is supplied with air at a volumetric efficiency indicating the ratio of a real volume flow of air in the internal combustion engine to an ideal, theoretically possible, volume flow of air in the internal combustion engine. The device for error monitoring is configured to determine an error in the engine system when a difference between a measured volumetric efficiency and an estimated volumetric efficiency exceeds a predetermined absolute value.

  • Patent number: 8245689
Abstract: A method for monitoring a control loop or a regulating loop in a system, in particular in an engine system in a motor vehicle, is described. A characteristic value is ascertained from a preset value and a system variable of the regulating loop or the control loop during one or more state changes, and an error is detected as a function of the ascertained characteristic value.

  • Patent number: 7881858
Abstract: A method for the diagnosis of an exhaust gas recirculation system in an internal combustion engine, including providing a pressure difference reading, which gives a pressure difference in an air supply section of the internal combustion engine or a pressure difference over the exhaust gas recirculation system; determining a pressure difference reference value as a function of one or more operating variables of the internal combustion engine; and detecting a fault in the exhaust gas recirculation system as a function of the pressure difference reading and of the pressure difference reference value.

  • Patent number: 7134429
Abstract: A device and a method for controlling an internal combustion engine in which, starting from the comparison between a measured and an expected value for a lambda signal, a correction value is specified for a fuel signal characterizing the fuel quantity, or an air signal characterizing the air quantity. Depending on the operating state, an output signal of a characteristics map and/or the output signal of a closed-loop control are/is used as the correction value.
