  • Patent number: 9415457
Abstract: An electric arc welder and a method for performing a pulse welding process producing reduced spatter. The welder produces a current between an advancing electrode and a workpiece. The welder includes a short-detecting capability for detecting a short condition upon occurrence of a short circuit between the advancing electrode and the workpiece. The welder may also include a switching module in the welding circuit path of the welder having an electrical switch and a resistive path. Times of occurrence of short intervals can be tracked and a blanking signal can be generated based on the tracked short intervals to anticipate a next short interval in a next pulse period of the pulsed welding process. The blanking signal can be used to reduce a welding current in the welding circuit path by introducing additional resistance into the welding circuit path via the switching module, for example.

  • Patent number: 9203893
Abstract: A system and method for installing device drivers or application software on equipment used in brazing, cladding, building up, filling, hard-facing overlaying, joining or welding operations is provided. The system includes a first device and a second device. The first device and the second device communicate over a communication system to monitor and/or control the operations. The second device transmits device software (e.g., device drivers and/or application software) or a link to the device software to the first device over the communication system to facilitate the monitoring and/or controlling of the operations. In some embodiments, the first device, which can emulate a host, requests the device software from the second device after a determination that the device software needs to be uploaded. The second device can emulate a peripheral such as a disk drive, a serial port device, DVD drive, or a CD ROM.

  • Publication number: 20140001166
Abstract: An arc welding system includes a welding torch, an electrode, and a power supply having a switching-type power converter connected to the torch. A parallel state-based controller is connected to the power converter and provides a waveform control signal thereto for controlling its operations. The controller generates a motion control signal for controlling movements of the electrode and/or the torch. A sensor senses welding voltage or welding current. A memory stores a welding state table comprising sequential control states, and stores a motion control system state table comprising further sequential control states. The welding waveform is defined in the welding state table. The controller controls the operations of the power converter through the waveform control signal according to the welding state table, simultaneously adjusting the motion control signal according to the motion control system state table. The controller transitions between control states according to the signal received from the sensor.

  • Publication number: 20110148686
Abstract: Sensing moving entities includes transmitting a stepped-frequency radar signal including multiple frequencies through a wall from a first side of the wall to a second side of the wall. Portions of the radar signal that are reflected by entities located beyond the second side of the wall are detected. The reflected portions are processed to generate processed data including information associated with frequency shifts between the transmitted signal and the detected signal. The processed data is analyzed to determine if reflected portions are associated with moving entities.

  • Patent number: 7671784
Abstract: Techniques for detecting contraband are described, as are techniques for generating an image of living tissue. A location of interest relative to a target space is received, and a radar signal is transmitted in the direction of the location of interest. Portions of the radar signal are detected with multiple receiving structures. The detected portions are processed to generate information corresponding to dielectric or loss properties, the properties corresponding to particular positions within the target space. A determination is made as to whether contraband is present in the target space based on the determined properties.

  • Publication number: 20090176569
Abstract: An ambient effects system and method of operation is described in which regions (30, 38) of a game or movie screen (10) are analysed (32, 40). The result of the analysis is then processed using logical, heuristic, or a combination of both techniques to determine a content related event. An ambient effects script (34, 36, 48) is then selected (if pre-authored) or generated (if not pre-authored) on the basis of the determination, and provided to the system to render appropriate ambient effects throughout the users environment. Hence, immersive, ambient effects are enabled for media or game content created independently of, and without, the ambient effects system in mind.
