  • Publication number: 20220338057
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for soliciting trigger-based (TB) physical layer protocol convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data units (PPDUs). Some implementations more specifically relate to trigger frame and PPDU designs that support RU downsizing. For example, an access point (AP) may transmit a trigger frame soliciting a TB PPDU from a wireless station (STA). In some aspects, the trigger frame may carry RU allocation information indicating the allocated RU or MRU (associated with a wireless medium) and downsizing information indicating whether downsizing of the RU or MRU is permitted. If interference is detected in a portion of the wireless medium, and downsizing is permitted, the STA may transmit the TB PPDU on a downsized RU or MRU. The downsized RU or MRU includes a subset of the tones in the RU or MRU allocated by the trigger frame.

  • Patent number: 11469859
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for implementing a retransmission protocol in a wireless local area network (WLAN). The retransmission protocol may be based on a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) protocol that supports a delayed acknowledgement for a HARQ retransmission based on receiver processing capability. A first WLAN device may determine that a second WLAN device requires more time to process the HARQ retransmission and may transmit a different communication (interlaced within the HARQ process) to either the second WLAN device or a third WLAN device during the time that the second WLAN device is processing the HARQ retransmission.

  • Patent number: 11451341
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for implementing a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) protocol in a wireless local area network (WLAN). In some aspects, a first WLAN device may transmit a first HARQ frame to a second WLAN device. The first WLAN device may determine whether a first feedback message received from the second WLAN device includes HARQ acknowledgement information or non-HARQ acknowledgment information. The first feedback message may be a HARQ Block Acknowledgement (H-BA) message having a multi-station Block ACK (M-BA) frame format that includes HARQ acknowledgment information. The first WLAN device may transmit a second HARQ frame to the second WLAN device in response to determining the first feedback message includes the HARQ acknowledgment information. The first WLAN device may transmit a non-HARQ frame in response to determining the first feedback message includes non-HARQ acknowledgement information.

  • Patent number: 11431539
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for improving the security of secure long training field (LTF) transmissions. In some implementations, a transmitting device may perform windowing on a secure LTF, in the frequency domain, so that the resulting time-domain LTF signal is difficult, if not impossible, to predict by any device that observes a portion of the LTF signal. In some aspects, the transmitting device may negotiate the windowing of secure LTFs with a receiving device based on fine timing measurement (FTM) negotiation frames exchanged at the start of an FTM procedure. In some other aspects, the transmitting device may dynamically or adaptively perform windowing on secure LTFs. In such aspects, the transmitting device may indicate whether windowing is performed on a secure LTF based on information carried in a signal field of a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) that includes the secure LTF.

  • Patent number: 11374699
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for implementing a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) protocol in a wireless local area network (WLAN). A first WLAN device may transmit a first HARQ frame to a second WLAN device. The first HARQ frame may include initial transmissions of a first plurality of forward error correction (FEC) codewords. The HARQ protocol may support new techniques for feedback, such as a feedback capability in which a bitmap may be used to indicate decoding failures of codewords. The first feedback message may include indicators to change a HARQ configuration parameter based on channel conditions. In some implementations, the second HARQ frame may combine retransmissions regarding the failed codewords with initial transmissions of a second plurality of codewords.

  • Patent number: 11363526
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatuses for indicating a data rate of a packet. The transmitting device may select the data rate of a data field of the packet to be transmitted to the receiving device, and may select a pattern to embed within a preamble of the packet based on the selected data rate. In some implementations, the transmitting device may select a first structure including a first number of instances of a sequence or its logical complement if the selected data rate is a low data rate, and may select a second structure including a second number of instances of the sequence or its logical complement if the selected data rate is a high data rate.

  • Patent number: 11362708
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for wireless communication, and particularly, methods, devices and systems for implementing a joint transmission feature in a wireless communication system. Using the joint transmission feature, multiple access points (APs) may use an aggregated collection of antennas of multiple APs to simultaneously transmit a joint beamformed transmission to one or more stations (STAs). The techniques in this disclosure may prevent or reduce variations in relative gain adjustments by the APs that could otherwise negatively impact the joint transmission. In some implementations, a network device may determine a normalized gain adjustment value based on power parameters associated with each of the multiple APs. In some other implementations, each AP may determine the normalized gain adjustment value based on power parameters shared between the APs.

  • Publication number: 20220150025
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for soliciting trigger-based (TB) physical layer protocol convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data units (PPDUs). Some implementations more specifically relate to trigger frame designs that support non-legacy TB PPDU formats. In some aspects, a trigger frame may carry information to be included in a physical layer (PHY) preamble of a TB PPDU solicited by the trigger frame. For example, the information may indicate values of one or more subfields of a universal signal field (U-SIG) associated with the non-legacy TB PPDU format. In some aspects, the information may be carried in a special user information field of the trigger frame. For example, the special user information field may be identified by a special association identifier (AID) value. The special AID value may be different than any AID values assigned to wireless communication devices in a basic service set (BSS) associated with the TB PPDU.

  • Patent number: 11310743
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatuses, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for determining one or more tone sequences (for example, for wake-up procedures). In one aspect, an access point (AP) may wake a mobile station (STA) from a low power mode using a wake-up packet, where an ON symbol of the wake-up packet is modulated using a tone sequence. To reduce the likelihood of a STA falsely identifying the ON symbol as a packet preamble, the AP may implement a tone sequence that satisfies a correlation metric threshold. For example, for a set of candidate tone sequences, each tone sequence may be associated with a correlation metric and peak-to-average-power ratio (PAPR) coordinate pair, and the tone sequence for modulating the ON symbol of the wake-up packet may be selected from a lower convex hull of the coordinate pairs.

  • Patent number: 11245501
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described for coordination between multiple access points (APs) for communications within a transmission opportunity (TxOP). A first AP may gain channel access for a TxOP, and may coordinate with at least a second AP to allow both the first AP and the second AP to transmit and receive wireless communications during the TxOP. The first AP, upon gaining channel access following a successful contention-based channel access procedure, may initiate a scheduling phase with the second AP to schedule of resources within the TxOP for the first and second APs. The first AP may initiate a multi-AP coordinated transmission phase following the scheduling phase, during which both the first AP and second AP may communicate with one or more associated STAs.

  • Publication number: 20220030572
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for generating enhanced trigger frames. Some implementations more specifically relate to trigger frame designs that support gains in data throughput achievable in accordance with the IEEE 802.11be amendment, and future generations, of the IEEE 802.11 standard. In some implementations, an enhanced trigger frame may be used to solicit a non-legacy trigger-based (TB) physical layer protocol convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) from one or more wireless stations (STAs). In some implementations, the enhanced trigger frame may be configurable to support multiple versions of the IEEE 802.11 standard. For example, an enhanced trigger frame may be configured in accordance with a legacy trigger frame format or a non-legacy trigger frame format. Thus, when configured in accordance with the legacy trigger frame format, the enhanced trigger frame can also be used to a legacy TB PPDU from one or more STAs.

  • Patent number: 11228396
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for encoding data in wireless communications. Some implementations more specifically relate to performing a first encoding operation on data bits of a code block to shape the amplitudes of the resultant symbols such that the amplitudes have a non-uniform distribution. In some aspects, the probabilities associated with the respective amplitudes generally increase with decreasing amplitude. For example, the non-uniform distribution of the amplitudes of the symbols may be approximately Gaussian. In some aspects, the first encoding operation is or includes a prefix encoding operation having an effective coding rate greater than 0.94 but less than 1. The first encoding operation is followed by a second encoding operation that also adds redundancy but does not alter the data bits themselves. In some aspects, the second encoding operation is or includes a low-density parity-check (LDPC) encoding operation associated with a coding rate greater than 5/6.

  • Publication number: 20210359885
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for wireless communication, and particularly, for generating or receiving a multi-generation physical layer protocol data unit (PPDU). The multi-generation PPDU may concurrently include a first generation-specific preamble based on a first generation of a wireless communication specification (such as that defined by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 family of standards) and a second generation-specific preamble based on a second generation of the wireless communication specification in a same transmission. The generation-specific preambles may be generated based on bandwidth portions of a wireless channel that each generation-specific preamble will occupy in the multi-generation PPDU. One or more of the generation-specific preambles may be modified based on an aggregate bandwidth of the multi-generation PPDU.

  • Publication number: 20210344541
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for generating a secure long training field (LTF). In some implementations, the secure LTF may include a randomized bit sequence that is difficult, if not impossible, to replicate by any device other than the transmitting device and the intended receiving device. For example, the transmitting device may use a block cipher or stream cipher to generate a pseudorandom bit sequence and may select a subset of bits of the pseudorandom bit sequence to be mapped to a sequence of modulation symbols representing an LTF symbol of the secure LTF. More specifically, each of the modulation symbols is mapped to a respective one of a number of subcarriers spanning a bandwidth of the secure LTF. The transmitting device may further transmit a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) that includes the secure LTF to the receiving device.

  • Patent number: 11160020
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. An access point (AP) may identify a sequence of on symbols and off symbols for transmission to a wake-up radio (WUR) of a wireless device. The AP may assign a modulation symbol from a set of possible modulation symbol waveforms to at least each on symbol in the sequence. The modulation symbol waveforms may be assigned to sequential on symbols in a random or pseudorandom order, e.g., by applying a random phase rotation to a stored modulation symbol waveform, by applying a random cyclic shift to a stored modulation symbol waveform, or by applying a random or pseudorandom phase-shift keying value to each subcarrier in a multicarrier system to generate a modulation symbol waveform. The AP may transmit the sequence to the WUR based at least in part on the assigned modulation symbol waveforms.
