  • Patent number: 6221033
Abstract: A therapeutic device which may be used in providing physical therapy for a patient's knee by moving the patient's leg through a plurality of cycles of motion in a treatment session. The device includes a “Fast Back” range of motion feature that permits the machine to be operated at more than one speed or rate per cycle, wherein the patient's knee may pass through a critical or working range of motion at a first rate, and through a non-critical or non-working range of motion at a second rate, so as to increase the portion of time of a treatment session that is spent in the working of the range of motion, as compared to conventional CPM machines.

  • Patent number: 6217532
Abstract: A therapeutic device may be used in providing physical therapy for a patient's knee by moving the patient's leg through a plurality of cycles of motion in each of a number of treatment sessions. The device includes a progressive range of motion feature that permits an automatic decrease in the flexion angle (or an automatic increase in the extension angle) over a period of time as rehabilitation progresses. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the carriage holding the patient's leg is decelerated, at a controlled rate over a controlled distance, from the operational speed to zero, as the carriage approaches the extension or flexion limit, and the carriage is accelerated in the same fashion as the carriage moves away from the extension or flexion limit.

  • Patent number: 5429116
Abstract: Removable filters tailored to pollution by different cookers under a hood, have locating punched out notches on locator pins located on a removable drain trough according to a pattern whereby, after the filters are removed for cleaning, they must be re-installed in their original locations. A field-installed outlet collar assembly includes a flanged one-piece inner collar received up through a field-cut opening in the hood top. Two tapered half frames are hammered in laterally, wedging between the top of the hood and the top flange of the collar, sealing the bottom flange of the collar to a gasket sealed to the underside of the hood top. An access door assembly is similarly field-installed. Exhaust duct sections have joint features snapped together and interlocking.Fire damper assemblies inside the exhaust and make-up air plenums include horizontally slidable panels positionable in a maximized standardized hood to reduce its flow rates to match specific cooking fume ventilating requirements.

  • Patent number: 5242998
Abstract: Sulphonated polyketones are prepared by reacting a linear alternating copolymer of carbon monoxide and one or more olefins (polyketone) with a sulphonating agent (e.g. chlorosulphoric acid) in a solvent (e.g. dichloromethane) at a temperature in the range -20.degree. to +40.degree. C. A molar excess of sulphonating agent is preferably used. The sulphonated polyketone produced contains one or more types of unit of formula--[COC(R.sup.1).sub.2 C(R.sup.1).sub.2 ]--wherein the R.sup.1 groups are independently H, C.sub.1 to C.sub.10 alkyl or SO.sub.3 H with the proviso that at least one R.sub.1 group is SO.sub.3 H.

  • Patent number: 5205279
Abstract: A kitchen ventilator is mounted in the wall behind the cooking units and has a horizontally extending intake slot located close to the cooking surface. A roof-mounted upblast fan is coupled through connecting duct to the ventilator to establish a vacuum in the system. Room air travels over the cooking surface into the slot and is baffled down toward the bottom of the ventilator and then turned 180 degrees around the bottom edge of the baffle to centrifugally remove some contaminants. The air moves upward to the top of the baffle and is drawn through baffle-style filters where additional contaminants are removed. The baffle is removable to facilitate cleaning. Clean-out doors in the front face of the ventilator above the intake slot give easy access to the filters for removal and cleaning or replacement of them. A funnel around and under the fan assembly takes rain and snow from the fan assembly and drains it through the connecting duct and ventilator to sewer.

  • Patent number: 5081207
Abstract: A nitrogen-containing polymer is prepared by reacting ammonia or an amine selected from C.sub.1 to C.sub.50 primary alkylamines, benzylamine and substituted benzylamines with a linear terpolymer comprised of alternating --CO-- and --(A)-- units, the --(A)-- units comprising a mixture of --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 -- units and --CH.sub.2 CH(R)-- units wherein R is C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl or phenyl.

  • Patent number: 5026674
Abstract: A process for preparing interpolymers of an olefin(s) and carbon monoxide (polyketones) is provided. The process employs a palladium catalyst prepared by reacting together a palladium source, a bidentate amine, phosphine, arsine or stibine and a source of a borate anion. The catalyst effects fast polymerization of the olefin(s) and carbon monoxide in, e.g. methanol or ethoxyethanol solvent. By using the catalyst a lower catalyst deactivation on recycle is observed relative to previously described systems.

  • Patent number: 5023318
Abstract: A process for preparing an interpolymer of one or more olefins with carbon monoxide is disclosed. The process, which comprises reacting the olefin(s) with carbon monoxide in the presence of a palladium catalyst prepared by reacting together for example palladium acetate, 1,3-bis (diphenylphosphino)propane and para- toluenesulphonic acid, is improved by having an amide or nitrile present. The presence of an amide or nitrile improves reaction rates and reduces the amount of catalyst incorporated into the polyketone. A preferred additive is dimethylformamide.
