Abstract: Method and system for programming a power tool from an external device. The method includes establishing a first communication link with a server. The server includes a profile bank that includes mode profiles generated by a plurality of users. The method further includes receiving, over the first communication link, a list of mode profiles representing a subset of the mode profiles of the profile bank. The method further includes receiving, in response to user input from a first user on the external device, a selection of a mode profile. The method further includes transmitting, over the first communication link, the selection of the mode profile. The method further includes receiving, over the first communication link, the mode profile, the mode profile having been generated by a second user. • Publication number: 20160364687
Abstract: A mobile device and method for determining power tool attendance. The mobile device and method are able to generate a list of power tools that are missing based on being outside of communication range with the mobile device. For example, the mobile device includes a short-range transceiver, a memory, and a processor coupled to the memory and the short-range transceiver. The processor is configured to receive a list of a first plurality of power tools and receive, via a user interface, a selection to detect nearby tools. The processor is also configured to receive, via the short-range transceiver, identification signals from a second plurality of power tools and determine that a subset of the first plurality of power tools is missing based on the identification signals. The processor is further configured to generate an indication that the subset of the first plurality of power tools is missing.

  • Publication number: 20160342151
Abstract: A programmable power tool and method and systems of programming a power tool using wireless communication. An external device having a processor and a transceiver establishes a communication link with the power tool. The external device receives, with the transceiver, a first mode profile stored on the power tool. The first mode profile is defined by a profile type and a first value associated with a parameter for executing the profile type. The external device displays a control screen including the profile type and the parameter at the first value, and receives a user input. The external device generates, in response to the user input, a second mode profile by modifying the parameter to be at a second value. The external device transmits, with the transceiver, the second mode profile to the power tool.

  • Publication number: 20160325391
Abstract: A power tool having multiple wireless communication states and a method of wirelessly communicating by a power tool. The power tool includes a motor, a battery pack interface that selectively receives a battery pack, a backup power source, and a wireless communication controller coupled to the backup power source and the battery pack interface. The wireless communication controller operates in a connectable state when coupled to a battery pack and transmits tool operational data to the external device and receives tool configuration data from the external device. The wireless communication controller operates in an advertisement state when the wireless communication controller is coupled to and powered by the backup power source. In the advertisement state, the wireless communication controller is configured to transmit the unique tool identifier. The external device may also display an indication of the communication state of the power tool.

  • Publication number: 20160311094
Abstract: An adapter for a power tool includes a housing, a tool-side connector, and a battery-side connector in electrical communication with each other. The tool-side connector is configured to couple to a power tool, and the battery-side connector is configured to couple to a battery pack. The adapter also includes a communication interface configured to couple with an external device, and a controller. The controller is configured to determine a state of the power tool, operate in a data transmission mode when the power tool is in the idle state, operate in a pass-through mode when the power tool is in the active state, and switch between the data transmission mode and the pass-through mode based on the state of the power tool.

  • Patent number: 7878434
Abstract: A wood chipper includes a housing having an inlet opening and a discharge outlet with a chipper disk rotatably mounted in the housing and having a chipper knife mounted on a front face thereof adjacent a chipper slot extending through the disk. A plurality of fins are mounted on the back face of the chipper disk. An inlet hopper is connected to the inlet opening and a blow back shield is mounted in the upper end portion of the hopper with the shield including an outer layer of clear synthetic material extending across the hopper and an inner layer of synthetic material extending part way underneath the length of the layer of clear synthetic material. The inner layer may be provided with a safety warning thereon which is visible through the outer layer of clear synthetic material. A discharge chute is connected to the discharge outlet which has inwardly angled plates around part thereof. Vent holes are provided in a wall of the housing which add air flow to the wood chipper when it is being operated.

  • Publication number: 20080023235
Abstract: A portable auger having a two-stage hydraulic pump is described. The two-stage pump drives an auger via an auger power drive by providing pressurized hydraulic fluid to the drive. The invention also describes a portable auger having a dedicated transport powered drive unit driven by the two-stage hydraulic pump. The transport powered drive provides powered-assisted, wheel movement of the auger by an individual. Means are also provided for allowing the wheel, or wheels, driven by the dedicated power drive unit to freewheel when the dedicated power drive unit is not in use.
