Patent number: 7942894Abstract: A vascular occlusion device deployment system is provided for deploying an embolic device at a preselected site within the vasculature of a patient. The deployment system includes a tubular element having a catch movably located within the tubular element. The catch has a normal open configuration and a closed configuration. When in the closed configuration, the catch grasps a headpiece of an embolic device. The tubular element has a constraining section and a releasing section. When the catch is within the constraining section of the tubular element, the constraining section acts upon the catch to keep the catch in a closed configuration. When the catch is moved to the releasing section, the catch returns to its normally open configuration and releases its grasp of the embolic device headpiece.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2006Date of Patent: May 17, 2011Assignee: Codman & Shurtleff, Inc.Inventor: Stephen West

Patent number: 7166100Abstract: A balloon catheter for medical treatment of a patient, including therapeutic dilatation or deployment of medical devices such as stents or grafts. The balloon catheter has an “over-the-wire configuration, including a proximal hub defining an inflation port and a guidewire port, a flexible shaft defining an inflation lumen and a guidewire lumen, a balloon near a distal end of the catheter, and a distal guidewire port. At least a portion of the shaft has an inner tubular body defining at least a portion of the guidewire lumen, surrounded by an outer tubular body defining at least a portion of the inflation lumen. A proximal portion of the inner body is reinforced by a hypotube, which provides much greater column strength and torsional stiffness. A distal end of the hypotube provides a graduated flexibility transition with a distal spiral-cut segment, in which the pitch of the spiral cut pattern decreases to provide increasing flexibility.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2004Date of Patent: January 23, 2007Assignee: Cordis Neurovascular, Inc.Inventors: Amanda Jordan, Darren Sherman, Robert Slazas, Stephen West

Publication number: 20060195178Abstract: An aneurismal sack deflator is disclosed including a body having an aneurismal sack neck closure surface. An internal surface defines at least a portion of a fluid passageway, with the internal surface configured to provide a Venturi effect to thereby reduce fluid pressure in the fluid passageway. A semi-permeable region is in fluid communication with the fluid passageway and the aneurismal sack. Patent number: 6526948Abstract: A fuel system includes a pair of electronically controllable high pressure fuel pumps operable to supply high pressure fuel from a lower pressure fuel source to a high pressure fuel collection chamber having a pressure sensor associated therewith. The fuel collection chamber feeds an electronically controllable valve operable to dispense the high pressure fuel to a fuel distribution unit supplying fuel to a number of fuel injectors. A control computer is provided for controlling the high pressure fuel pump and valve in response to requested fueling, engine speed and fuel pressure provided by the pressure sensor. The accumulator pressure profile is processed in accordance with various techniques forming part of the present invention for diagnosing pressure sensor in-range failures, fuel pump injector valve blow shut failures and failure of one of the fuel pumps.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 2000Date of Patent: March 4, 2003Assignee: Cummins, Inc.Inventors: Jonathan A. Patent number: 6308124Abstract: A system is disclosed for determining an effective throttle value of an internal combustion engine for controlling automatic transmission shift points. In one embodiment, the system is operable to determine an effective throttle value as a function of commanded fueling and engine speed under operating conditions wherein engine torque is requested by a system/component other than manual throttle control to thereby provide a throttle value indicative of what throttle position or percentage would be under present operating conditions if engine torque was being requested via manual throttle control. The present invention accordingly overcomes deficiencies in known automatic transmission shift point control systems by continuously computing an equivalent throttle percentage whenever fueling or requested torque values are not dominated by actual throttle (e.g. accelerator pedal) percentage.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1998Date of Patent: October 23, 2001Assignee: Cummins Engine Company, Inc.Inventors: John P. Kresse, Stephen West
