    Abstract: Disubstituted monochlorotriazines such as 2-chloro-4-mesitoxy-6-glycidoxy-1,3,5-triazine are prepared in organic solution by first combining a monoorganoxy dichlorotriazine with an aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution in a specific concentration and molar ratio, and adding to the mixture thus produced a hydroxyaliphatic or hydroxyaromatic compound, preferably glycidol, in the presence of at least one hydrophilic phase transfer catalyst such as tetra-n-butylammonium bromide. The reaction can be integrated with either or both of a prior step of dichlorotriazine preparation and a subsequent step of capping a hydroxy-terminated polymer, especially a polyphenylene ether.

    Abstract: Compositions are provided for comprising a compatibilizing PPE and a naphthalate-type polyester resin wherein the compositions have a drop in the elastic modulus occurring at least about 15.degree. The compositions can further comprise impact modifiers, reinforcing agents, fillers, stabilizers, antistatic agents, plasticizers, lubricants, and other additives to provide compositions with enhanced physical properties.     Abstract: Blended polymer compositions are described which comprise:(A) at least about 5% by weight of at least one polyphenylene ether;(B) up to about 95% by weight of at least one block polyetheramide; and(C) from 0 to about 3% by weight based upon the total weight of components (A), (B) and any other polymers present in the composition of at least one polyepoxide;with the proviso that when said block polyetheramide has a flex modulus greater than about 75 MPa., said composition contains at least about 0.5% by weight based upon the total weight of components (A), (B) and any other polymers present in the composition of said polyepoxide.The blends give non-delaminating molded parts with good mechanical properties. The blends can be formed from a high-nitrogen polyphenylene ether and a block polyetheramide without the need for using vacuum-vented polyphenylene ether extrudate and without the need for adding a compatibilizer.

    Abstract: Substituted dichlorotriazines are prepared by the reaction of a suitable hydroxy compound with cyanuric chloride in a substantially non-polar organic solvent, in the presence of an aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution having a concentration in the range of about 1-20% by weight and a phase transfer catalyst. The phase transfer catalyst employed is a tetraalkylammonium or tetraalkylphosphonium salt free from aromatic substituents and wherein the alkyl groups contain 3-5 carbon atoms. Hydrophilic phase transfer catalysts, in which the alkyl groups contain up to about 5 carbon atoms, are preferred.
