  • Patent number: 8302483
Abstract: In a pressure sensing element made of piezoresistors formed into a silicon substrate, thermally-induced stresses on the piezoresistors and thermally-induced voltage offsets can be reduced by thinning the substrate prior to forming the resistors and then forming the resistors into the thinned-out recess. Forming a circular or disk-shaped recess in the substrate and then forming the resistors therein is believed to cause thermally-induced stresses to be evenly distributed and/or cancelled out on all four piezoresistors of a Wheatstone bridge circuit.

  • Publication number: 20120236086
Abstract: An ink supplying and collecting apparatus includes a case, ink cartridges detachably attached to the case, and a collecting container detachably attached to the case. The ink cartridges supply ink to a recording head of a printer via ink supply tubes. The collecting container collects ink drained from the recording head via an ink drain tube. The case is located outside of and is separate from the printer. Thus, the sizes and shapes of the ink cartridges and the collecting container can be freely designed.

  • Patent number: 8237101
Abstract: An optical tracking system comprises an array of point source emitters that output respective optical emissions, and a plurality of angle of arrival sensors. Each sensor comprises one or more optical elements and a focal plane array (FPA), with the optical elements arranged to resolve the optical emissions into one or more linear patterns on the FPA. A processing system in communication with the sensors establishes the orientation and position of each of the optical emitters using the linear patterns. A headgear tracking system employs point source emitters on a piece of headgear, with front and rear arrays of angle of arrival sensors located in an aircraft cockpit; a processing system in communication with the sensor arrays establishes an orientation and position for each of the optical emitters on the headgear.

  • Patent number: 8191423
Abstract: Dual piezoresistive transducers formed into a single silicon die, are anodically bonded to a pedestal. Two separate pressure ports extend through a plastic housing. The port openings inside the housing are surrounded by a groove having a shape and size that accepts the pedestal. A thin, liquid adhesive is deposited into the groove and allowed to level out. The pedestal is placed into the adhesive and embeds itself therein. Adhesive overflow into the ports is avoided by dimensioning the groove and depositing an amount of adhesive that will fill the groove but not overflow when the pedestal is placed therein. Once the adhesive cures, the adhesive bond strength is greater due to the adhesive being in shear relative to the groove side walls and pedestal sidewalls. The grooved structure provides an apparatus and methodology for precise die mounting and media sealing.

  • Patent number: 8016396
Abstract: A liquid retainer support is arranged in a body of a liquid ejection apparatus in an immovable manner or in such a manner as to allow reciprocation of the liquid retainer support. A liquid retainer is secured to the liquid retainer support. A liquid retainer chamber is defined in the liquid retainer in such a manner as to allow communication between the liquid retainer chamber and the atmospheric air. A liquid supply system of the liquid ejection apparatus is manufactured by blocking the liquid retainer chamber from the atmospheric air and connecting a liquid passage defining body to the liquid retainer for supplying liquid from a liquid reservoir to the liquid retainer chamber. The liquid passage defining body includes a liquid passage that communicates with the liquid reservoir. In this manner, the cost for manufacturing the liquid supply system is reduced.

  • Publication number: 20110184883
Abstract: Methods and systems for deriving a scoring function, for use in ordering a set of search results, are described. Consistent with some embodiments, a simulation platform includes an offline simulator module that receives search result sets for search queries that result in the conclusion of a transaction. The result set is then processed by the offline simulation platform to derive a set of weighting factors for use with one or more parameters in a parametric scoring function. The weighting factors are determined, for example, by specifying an equation setting one or more constraints and then solving the equation for the weighting factors.

  • Publication number: 20110184941
Abstract: Methods and systems for simulating a search, for the purpose of evaluating one or more scoring functions used in ordering item listings for presentation in a search results page are described. Consistent with some embodiments, a simulation platform includes a real-time simulation module that receives search result sets for search queries that result in the conclusion of a transaction. The result set is then processed by the simulation platform with one or more test scoring functions, such that the resulting position of the item listing that has resulted in the transaction can be compared with the actual position at which the item listing was displayed in the actual search results. For each test scoring function, an average rank shift metric is determined, and displayed, thereby providing a metric with which to base decisions about which scoring functions to use in the production system.

  • Patent number: 7972663
Abstract: A method of forming a silicon nitride layer is described. According to the present invention, a silicon nitride layer is deposited by thermally decomposing a silicon/nitrogen containing source gas or a silicon containing source gas and a nitrogen containing source gas at low deposition temperatures (e.g., less than 550° C.) to form a silicon nitride layer. The thermally deposited silicon nitride layer is then treated with hydrogen radicals to form a treated silicon nitride layer.

  • Patent number: 7729413
Abstract: A system and a method to track GPS (Global Positioning System) satellite signal in a GPS receiver that includes an expanded capture window to rapidly reacquire the satellite signal after the satellite signal has been obstructed or when there is other type of signal loss. The expanded capture window includes a plurality of additional early and late correlations for maintaining synchronization of the GPS signal with a generated replica signal when positional error has accumulated during the time of the signal loss. The plurality of additional early and late correlations may be delayed from each other by a multiple of a fraction of a chip and may be performed in one or multiple channels of the GPS receiver. The adjoining code samples in the replica signal may also be offset by a fraction of a chip or by a multiple of the fraction of a chip.
