  • Patent number: 6967939
Abstract: A third generation general partnership program radio communication system or a universal mobile telephone system employs a wide band code division multiple access system. The codes in various incoming signals from different sources are identified by cross correlation using a code matched filter. A multiplexer, samples the signals from each of the P sources at P times the chip rate of the codes in the incoming signals. The mutliplexer time multiplexes the received signals and feeds them to single delay line consisting of N stages each having P elements. Each stage will thus store one sample from each of the P sources. A selected element in each stage has an output which feeds a corresponding input of a code matched filter dot-product adder chain to enable a cross-correlation to be established for each incoming signal in turn.

  • Patent number: 6961905
Abstract: An editing program establishes communication with a remote computer using an Internet protocol, downloads a web page containing one or more imported images and displays the web page on a user interface. As the user moves a cursor over an imported image, its appearance may change. The user may select an imported image to edit directly from the displayed web page. In response to the user selecting an image, the editing program presents the image in an editing interface for modification by the user. The image may then be saved back to its original location according to write access permissions.

  • Patent number: 6949211
Abstract: A multi-ribbed power transmission belt having longitudinal grooves and transverse grooves that form a plurality of cogs on the belt surface defined between adjacent transverse grooves is provided. The pitch lengths of the rows of cogs are randomized or sequenced over the entire length of the belt to reduce the noise of the belt as it travels about its associated pulleys. The ideal pitch pattern on a belt is variable, dependent upon the circumferential length of the belt. To create an optimized pitch sequence for belts of various circumferential lengths, a method of manufacture is employed wherein a portion of the pitch sequence of a shorter belt is incorporated within an optimized pitch sequence of a longer belt and both belts are manufactured from a single mold. The longer belt may contain cogs of various shapes intended to offset a range of frequencies and minimize noise generation.

  • Patent number: 6922619
Abstract: Method for controlling the level of tractive efforts in a train having a first locomotive at a head end of the train, constituting a lead locomotive, and a second locomotive positioned in the train behind the lead locomotive, constituting a remote locomotive, with the remote locomotive being configured to selectively operate in either of two modes of operation, such as a first mode in which the locomotive operates at a full tractive effort level of operation and a second mode in which the locomotive operates in a partial tractive effort level of operation producing a tractive effort which is less than the full tractive effort of the locomotive. The method allows selecting (e.g., at the lead locomotive) one of the two modes of operation for producing a level of tractive effort appropriate for conditions as the train moves along a length of track. The method further allows transmitting a signal indicative of the selected mode of operation from the lead locomotive to the remote locomotive.

  • Patent number: 6893174
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for accurately indexing print receiving media of various types. A media indexing system is provided that includes a roller capable of indexing a print receiving medium in response to an indexing operation. A relationship exists between a commanded indexing operation of the roller and resultant indexing of a first type of print receiving medium. A type of print receiving medium is supplied to the media indexing system. The type of the print receiving medium is generally identified. A desired amount by which the print receiving medium should be indexed is identified. A commanded indexing operation of the roller to index by the desired amount is modified based on the type of the print receiving medium and the relationship. The print receiving can be indexed by substantially the desired amount.

  • Patent number: 6862144
Abstract: A device for adjusting the position of a lens along an optical axis of the lens. The device has a lens housing for carrying the lens and a first knob positioned to rotate about the lens housing. A second knob is cooperatively threaded to the first knob such that rotation of the first knob relative to the second knob causes axial movement of the lens housing along the optical axis. A coupler couples the lens housing to the second knob to prevent the lens housing from rotating relative to the second knob when the first knob is rotated.

  • Publication number: 20050035677
Abstract: The invention discloses an electrical machine, in particular a brushless synchronous motor that has a stator (14) and a rotor (12) with salient poles (18) disposed distributed over its circumference, each of which poles has an enclosed permanent magnet (11) and a pole shoe (19) that extends radially outward from the permanent magnet and defines an air gap (13) between the stator (14) and rotor (12). In order to achieve a low cogging torque and a low torque undulation, the pole shoes (19) are embodied as magnetically anisotropic, with a preferred direction of the greater magnetic conductivity extending parallel to the radial salient pole axis.
