  • Publication number: 20140307881
Abstract: Connectivity of a pair of parallel electroacoustic transducers is determined by applying a first test signal on the output line at a frequency where the impedance of the transducers in parallel is less than the impedance of the higher-frequency transducer alone, and observing whether a clip signal is received. If the clip signal is not received, an error indication is output. A second test signal is applied at a frequency where the impedance of the transducers in parallel is less than the impedance of the lower-frequency transducer alone. If the clip signal is not received, the error indication is output. A third test signal is applied at a frequency where the impedance of the transducers in parallel is higher if both transducers are operational than if the higher-frequency transducer is internally short-circuited. If the clip signal is received, a third error indication is output.

  • Patent number: 8802249
Abstract: Implementations described and claimed herein provide a battery unit having a first plurality of cells oriented in a first direction and a second plurality of cells oriented in a second direction. The first plurality of cells have a corresponding first plurality of terminals with a first polarity, and the second plurality of cells have a corresponding second plurality of terminals having a second polarity that is an opposite polarity of the first polarity. A conducting surface electrically connects the first and second pluralities of terminals and has a plurality of fuses, each fuse associated with one of the second plurality of terminals. Each fuse has an elongated perforation defining an enclosed surface having a resistive aperture. In general, each resistive aperture is oriented relative to resistive apertures of at least one adjacent fuse such that a substantially even current path is provided to each of the second plurality of terminals.

  • Publication number: 20140156313
Abstract: A display device may display to a user questions related to insurance products. The user may be a business owner, and the questions may solicit information that may be used to determine which of the insurance products are applicable to the user's business. Input data may be received from a user that is responsive to the questions. The input data may indicate, for example, the type of industry of the business and the location of the business. Next, the display device may present the user with a set of pictures that are related to the user's business industry. Input data may be received from the user, selecting a subset of the pictures. Based on the input data, a business classification may be determined. The business classification along with underwriting information may be used to determine a business insurance product and options that are applicable to the business.

  • Patent number: 8709572
Abstract: Individual layers of a high gradient insulator (HGI) are first pre-cut to their final dimensions. The pre-cut layers are then stacked to form an assembly that is subsequently pressed into an HGI unit with the desired dimension. The individual layers are stacked, and alignment is maintained, using a sacrificial alignment tube that is removed after the stack is hot pressed. The HGI's are used as high voltage vacuum insulators in energy storage and transmission structures or devices, e.g. in particle accelerators and pulsed power systems.

  • Publication number: 20140093225
Abstract: An electrical water heating appliance includes pump means connected to a water heating means via a water flow path. One or more flow-regulating valve means are arranged in the flow path to regulate the flow of water to the heating means so as to achieve a substantially uniform flow rate. The flow-regulating valve means may include a pressure-compensating valve means arranged to achieve a substantially uniform flow rate regardless of the water pressure. A suitable pressure-compensating valve means may include an elastic diaphragm arranged to regulate the flow by distorting in response to the pressure of water entering the valve means. The water heating means may be a water boiler for steam generation.

  • Publication number: 20140058563
Abstract: Static multi-registration performs a delayed convoy mission from a recorded path. The data recorded for delayed convoy includes both positions traversed by the vehicle and the obstacles sensed as it drove along the path and generates a new path file in this format that is used by the vehicle to follow the desired route. The data is processed before it is passed to the vehicle to be followed. Paths are processed to determine where they cross each other. These intersection points and the path data are used to create an interconnected graph of path segments. A multi-registration planner uses that information on the length and directionality of the path segments to compute the best route between two intersections. The route generated by the planner guides the merging of position and obstacle data from several recorded paths into a single record used by the vehicle to follow the desired route.
