  • Patent number: 8857348
Abstract: A media station can be broken-down and reconfigured such that the individual parts of the media station can be used in multiple configurations. The media station includes a central technology backbone that houses the computer hardware and media modules required for the type of monitor/media sharing desired. The technology backbone includes magnetic coupling members that increase the options for the different types of work tables that can be connected to the technology backbone dependent upon the user's needs and the size of the group. The ability to separate the work tables from the central technology backbone allows for flexibility in the styles of table used as well as the potential for cross room cohesiveness and economies of scale in unit types. When the media station is not in use, users can separate the individual work tables from the backbone and use the tables in a conventional manner.

  • Patent number: 8656648
Abstract: A modular wall panel system including a series of wall panels connectable to each other. Each of the wall panels is formed from a support frame having a pair of spaced vertical posts and an upper header and a lower sill extending between the vertical posts. The lower sill is received within attachment notches formed in each of the vertical posts near the bottom end of each post. The attachment notches are spaced along the length of the vertical post such that the position of the sill can be adjusted. The lower sill includes a trim channel that receives the bottom of a tile mounted to the support frame. A top cap is attached to the header and engages a top end of the tile to aid in retaining the tile on the support frame. The tile may be a segmented tile having a lower portion and an upper portion joined to each other by a segmented trim channel. The segmented trim channel between the upper and lower portions is not connected to the support frame.

  • Patent number: 8215081
Abstract: A system and method to attach and retain panel tiles and a top cap to a support frame of a modular wall panel system. The top cap attached to the support frame includes an elongated body having a one or more attachment clips removably attached to the elongated body at desired locations along the length of the elongated body. The attachment clips and elongated body are formed separately and assembled prior to attachment to the modular panel. The elongated body includes a pair of receiving cavities that receive spring arms formed on each of the attachment clips. The attachment clips are rotated into position such that the spring arms engage the elongated body and hold the attachment clips in position. Each panel includes a stiffener bracket having engagement tabs. The engagement tabs are received within notches formed in the vertical posts to secure the tiles to the support frame.

  • Patent number: 7922267
Abstract: A worksurface storage system includes a frame, a tray, an actuator, and a cover. The tray and actuator are connected to the frame such that operation of the actuator translates the actuator and the tray relative to the frame. The cover is pivotably connected to the frame such that translation of the tray rotates the cover between an open and a closed position relative to the worksurface. The storage system is constructed to engage the worksurface such that devices supported by the tray are selectively extended and retracted relative to the worksurface. An opening formed in the worksurface accommodates passage of the devices and the cover, which is rotationally connected to the frame and which covers the opening formed in the worksurface when the devices are not in use. The storage system provides for multi-functional use of the worksurface.

  • Patent number: 7703844
Abstract: A protective shroud for a swing arm includes a housing made of two shroud sections that are snapped together around the base of a fixed seating arrangement. The assembled shroud includes two rectangular openings on its sides configured to allow the swing arms of the fixed seating arrangement to pivot on their axes within the shroud. The rectangular openings also include grooves on their upper and lower edges configured to receive a slidable rectangular shield member with a circular opening in its center. The rectangular shields fit over the opposed swing arms and slide within the grooves in the shroud halves as the swing arms pivot, thereby restricting access to the pinch points of the swing arms.

  • Patent number: 7578243
Abstract: A bin assembly capable of being secured to a work surface such as a table top includes an enclosure secured to the work surface. A platform and an elevating mechanism, which is capable of moving the platform vertically, are contained within the enclosure. The assembly also includes a cover pivotally secured over the enclosure and connected to the elevating mechanism for selectively operating the elevating mechanism, to elevate and lower the platform within the enclosure simultaneously with the movement of the cover to retract and expose an item, such as a laptop computer, positioned on the platform. The cover can be locked in the closed position by a locking mechanism engaged between the cover and the enclosure to secure the item within the assembly. The cover can also be locked in the open position by a lock bracket releasably engaged with the cover in the open position to prevent inadvertent closing of the cover.

  • Patent number: 6986550
Abstract: A seat slide assembly for a fixed seating arrangement allows for controlled horizontal movement of a seat in relation to a fixed vertical seat post. The seat slide assembly includes a cover configured for attachment to the bottom of a conventional seat, and a seat slide top member attached to the underside of the cover. The bottom of the seat slide top member is configured to receive and attach a pair of parallel ball-type bearing assemblies located on opposite sides of the seat slide assembly. Each bearing assembly is mounted to the underside of the seat slide top member, so that the bearing assemblies move along with the seat slide top member on an upper wall defined by a base. A spring biased seat slide retainer handle is operatively attached to the seat slide top member, and includes a retainer tab that engages a one of a series of spaced slots on a flange extending downwardly from a side of the base, for incremental controlled movement of the seat.

  • Patent number: 6739663
Abstract: A back mounting arrangement for a chair in which a back member is pivotable relative to a seat member. The back mounting arrangement includes a flexible bar-type pivot member interposed between the seat member and the back member. The pivot member includes an upper section received within a passage associated with the back member, and a lower section received within a passage associated with the seat member. The pivot member is formed of a resilient material and is flexible so as to enable the back member to be pivoted rearwardly relative to the seat member, and to provide a forward bias to the back member for resisting rearward pressure applied to the back member. A limit member, in the form of a limit strap, is engaged with the pivot member for limiting rearward pivoting movement of the back member relative to the seat member. The limit strap includes an opening which receives a protrusion associated with the pivot member.
